When the flames and smoke cleared, the corridor looked like a vision of hell.
The walls, stripped of paint and plaster, revealed bare concrete beneath, and even the floor tiles had melted into something glue-like. It looked as if the hallway had been repeatedly bombarded, with flames still smoldering in patches.
Needless to say, if we'd been caught in that explosion, we would've been reduced to ashes.
