Chapter 17 - City lord

"Do these skills actually work?" Aiden asked as he looked at the book.

It didn't belong to him; it belonged to the person before he took over.

Ding

[Yes, it does.]

A window appeared as it answered Aiden's question.

Nodding his head, he shifted his focus to other things. As he did so, the book disappeared, making Aiden raise his eyebrows in understanding.

"So, it's just like the window that I can interact with anytime with will." Aiden muttered.

Ding

[Correct! A personal sigil is an item that everybody has had within them since birth. It contains their information and helps store their skills and titles.]

Looking at the window in front of him, Aiden nodded his head.

[Form: Human

Core: 2nd

Items: [Personal Sigil] ]

"Then, what is this core thing?" He asked.

Ding

[To use skills, humans need to use a fuel called mana. Cores are the source of mana for humans and are located in the middle of their hearts. They are small and have six stages of development. Each stage is better than the prior stage.]

"…I see."

Ding

[The body was in the 3rd stage before you took over.]

"Huh? Then why is it the second stage now?" Aiden questioned.

Ding

[The body was severely injured before you took over, so to rebuild it, I had to sacrifice the third stage.]

"I see… I can still upgrade it to further stages, right?" Aiden asked as he placed his hand on his chest, feeling his heart.

Ding

[Yes. You can.]

"Thank god." Aiden muttered as he decided to explore a little more.

As he slowly went through it all, he finally had the courage to lay on the bed.

Laying on the bed, he actively went through the system.

As he was doing so, he went to the notification option.

[Notification:

{Quest announcement.} ]

"Quest annoncement?" Aiden didn't know about it until he clicked on it.

Ding

"…Huh?"

A window appeared as he naturally read through it.

Reading through the window, Aiden's face became darker and darker the more he read it.

'Difficulty S?' Eden was also with him, as his face was also becoming darker as he read through it.

'Sigh. I can't seem to find my peace, even for a moment.' Aiden thought as he decided to go to sleep.

He already had the gist of what he was getting into when he talked it out with Biju, but looking at the quest window, he was reminded of the reality of the situation.

'I will definitely get out of this.'

Aiden thought as he closed his eyes and went to sleep.

Maybe it was because of the softness of the huge bed, but, in contrast to Aiden's expectation of not being able to sleep, he slept right after he closed his eyes.

The night went by without a hitch.

The city slowly woke up as it was starting to get bright.

The sun wasn't out yet, but the night was indeed turning into morning.

Louis, who was standing at the entrance of the mansion, looked at the gate with anxiety written all over his face.

As he waited, a carriage appeared at the gate.

Hurridly walking towards the gate, he opened the gate as the carriage entered.

Louis worridly stood at the gate as he looked at the carriage stopping and its door opening.

'God, please protect me.'

Louis prayed one last time before heading towards the person walking out of the carriage.

"Good morning, city lord."

Louis said as he bowed down his hand.

"Louis Vandruff, I don't suppose there's any class going on. What are you doing here this early in the morning?"

A man who looked like he was in his early thirties walked out of the carriage as he replied to Louis's greeting with questions.

[Enel Belur, City Lord of the City of Wind, father of Aron Belur.]

Enel Belur was taller than Louis, towering over him. He had a glaring dark bag under his eyes that indicated that he was tired.

He stood still as a terrifying vibe was unconsciously emitted from him. His dark hair and a small scar right beside his left eye added to his terrifying aura as Louis braced himself.

"Y-young master returned yesterday, so I was looking after him." Louis said as he kept his head lowered.

Cold sweat was running down his back as he remembered how he had promised to never get on his bad side when he had first met him.

"I see. How is he doing?" Enel asked as he walked down the carriage and started walking towards the entrance.

"Young Master is physically fine. He didn't gain any serious injury, but…" Louis stopped a moment as he braced himself.

"Lost his memories." Enel said.

"…yes." Louis said.

"We will talk later. For now, return to your residence." Enel said as he walked inside the mansion.

Clack

The servants that were standing at the door closed the door as Louis just stared at them.

"…"

Having nothing to say, Louis turned around as he walked out of the mansion.

'…What is he doing here?'

As he was walking outside, he saw a familiar figure standing outside. As he approached the figure,.

"What are you doing here?" Louis said it with suspiciousness as the figure looked at him with a frown on his face.

"I was summoned by the city lord." Cedric said as Louis raised his eyebrows.

"Why would that be?" He questioned him, but Cedric didn't bother to answer him as he walked inside the mansion.

'Outsiders.' Louis didn't bother to interrogate him any further, as he turned around and walked away.

Inside the dining room of the mansion, Enel sat on a chair beside the huge rectangular dining table as the servants served him breakfast.

"Cedric, guild master of the Blaze Guild."

He said this as Cedric, who was standing at the opposite end of his chair, bowed his head and greeted him.

"It's a pleasure to meet the city lord." He said, but Enel didn't say much in return and just asked him about the matter that he was called here for.

"Tell me everything that happened on your mission." Enel said as Cedric nodded his head and started to recite everything that happened.

Clack

In the hallway, a door to a room suddenly opened.

'Where do you even plan on going?' Eden said as Aiden quietly walked outside his room.

"Good morning, young master." A servant standing outside the room greeted him as Aiden nodded his head.

"Your daily bath routine has been prepared. Please follow me." The servant said this as she started walking in a certain direction.

'A bath? At this early in the morning,' Aiden questioned, but he still quietly followed the servant.

The servant reached a door as she stood still beside it.

Aiden entered the bathroom.

'Tch. Everything is huge in this mansion.' Eden made a comment as Aiden agreed with him.

It was a huge bathroom.

Looking at the prepared bathtub with steam and spare clothes, Aiden didn't hesitate as he quickly became naked and took a bath.

'Ahhhh, it feels so nice.' He thought as he comfortably sat in the bathtub.

'Status.'

As he sat in the bathtub, he opened the window, trying to find out the things he hadn't paid much attention to last night.

{DNA} ]

'What does this mean?'

Clicking at the bottom text of the window, a new window appeared in front.

[DNA

[Sample-1 :Incomplete]

[Sample-2: Aron Belur] ]

Aiden frowned as he looked at the two samples in front of him.

"Hmm, so sample 1 is the incomplete one that I was notified of at the cave, and sample 2 is this body." Aiden muttered.

Ding

[Yes, you are right, host.]

"Why exactly is it incomplete, though?" He muttered as he clicked on the Sample-1 option.

Ding

[Sample-1

Owner: Aiden

{Incomplete} ]

"Hmm?"

Looking at it, Aiden then clicked on sample 2.

Ding

[Sample-2

Owner: Aron Belur

{Complete} ]

Ding

[I assume it's because your original DNA was different. As the system level increases, I can provide you with more detailed information.]

"I see." Aiden said as he closed his eyes and relaxed in the bathtub.

Back in the dining room, a lot of time had passed since Cedric started talking.

"I see. Beasts matters…" The city lord muttered as Cedric finished his recitation.

"Do you perhaps know about it?" Cedric asked as Enel put down his spoon and fork as he was done with his breakfast.

"Yes, and just like the servant said, it's not something we humans are to put our nose on." Enel said as he looked Cedric eye-to-eye.

"Is there anything else for you to report on?"
