The sun hung high overhead, but the sky was a dull gray, shrouded in winter's breath. Reeva exhaled a foggy breath, and for a moment, the sight before him was too surreal to comprehend.
It was horror in daylight. No ghost could be more terrifying than the horde of malformed deer charging straight at them.
"Run! Take the people and run!" Reeva screamed.
The villagers snapped out of their shock and scattered. Though there weren't many of them, they moved quickly, their instincts overtaking their fear.
But not everyone was willing to abandon their homes. They had lived here their whole lives and didn't want to leave—until they saw the monstrous horde. Then, they fled in a panic.
The knights mounted their horses and galloped out to assist. Each horse could carry two people, and with some knights already dead, there were enough mounts to evacuate the remaining villagers.
