Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Awakening

Kai's POV

The last thing I remember from my old life was the screech of tires and the terrified scream of a little girl. My body moved on its own, pushing her out of the way just in time. The impact came quickly, followed by darkness and an unbearable heat. I felt my consciousness slipping, only to be enveloped in a blinding light.

When I opened my eyes, I was lying in a strange hospital room. The sterile smell of disinfectant filled my nose, and the beeping of machines created a steady rhythm in the background. The ceiling above was white and unfamiliar. I turned my head slightly and saw doctors and nurses moving around, their faces a mix of concern and something else—pity, maybe? Sorrow?

A nurse noticed I was awake and quickly approached. "How are you feeling?" she asked gently, her voice soft and soothing.

I tried to speak, but my throat was dry. The nurse helped me take a sip of water, and I managed to croak out, "Where am I?"

"You're in the hospital," she replied. "You were found unconscious. Can you tell me your name?"

"Kai," I said slowly, my mind struggling to piece together anything more. "Kai Hisashi."

The nurse gave me a small, encouraging smile. "It's nice to meet you, Kai. You've been through a lot, but you're safe now."

As the days passed, I realized that the doctors and nurses knew more about what had happened to me than they were letting on. They gave me pitying looks and avoided certain questions. It was clear that something terrible had happened, but no one would tell me the details. I spent my days staring at the ceiling, trying to piece together fragments of memories that felt just out of reach. My name was Kai—that much I knew—but everything else was a haze.

Two weeks later

They sent me to an orphanage. It was a large, old building with creaking floors and drafty windows. The staff tried their best to make me feel at home, but I could see the wariness in their eyes whenever my quirk flared up. I could feel a burning sensation in my veins, and at night, I dreamed of fire and destruction.

One night, while trying to understand this new sensation, blue flames erupted from my hands, setting my bed on fire. Panic ensued, and I barely managed to control the flames before the entire room was engulfed. The other children kept their distance after that, and I often found myself alone, scared of my own power. The staff tried to comfort me, but I could see the fear in their eyes.

The nightmares persisted. Every night, I would wake up drenched in sweat, the scent of smoke and ash lingering in my mind. I saw flashes of a house engulfed in flames, shadows moving in the inferno. I didn't know if it was a memory or just a figment of my imagination, but it felt real. Too real.

One stormy night, a few months later

The flames came again, more intense and uncontrollable. The power surged within me, feeding off my fear and desperation. I ran through the streets, the rain soaking me to the bone, trying to find a place where I wouldn't hurt anyone. That's when I met her—Inko Midoriya. She found me shivering in an alley, tears streaming down my face. She didn't hesitate. She took me in, and for the first time, I felt a sense of safety.

Izuku's POV

Seeing Kai for the first time was confusing. He was this kid, just a bit older than me, with a haunted look in his eyes. He seemed lost, and there was something about him that made me feel like he needed a friend. I asked my mom about him, and she explained that he had been through something terrible and needed a place to stay.

This was before I knew I was quirkless, so I promised Kai that we would both become great heroes one day. He looked at me with those intense blue eyes and smiled, and I felt a surge of determination. But when I found out I was quirkless, my world shattered. How could I keep my promise to Kai if I couldn't even become a hero myself?

I remember sitting in my room, crying, feeling like a failure. Kai found me and sat down next to me. "Izuku, don't give up on your dreams," he said, his voice steady and full of conviction. "Even without a quirk, I believe in you. You have the heart of a hero, and that's what really matters."

His words were like a lifeline, pulling me out of my despair. In the background, my mom watched us, tears streaming down her face. She couldn't find the words to comfort me, but Kai's belief in me did what she couldn't.

From that day on, Mom vowed to do everything she could to help us reach our dreams. She provided us with resources—books, training equipment, and connections to mentors. Kai and I became inseparable, pushing each other to be better. He was my rock, and I was his. We shared everything—our dreams, our fears, and our determination to become heroes.

A few years later

Kai's POV

The day of the Sludge Villain attack started like any other. Izuku and I were walking home from school, discussing our plans for training. Suddenly, there was a loud commotion. We turned to see a monstrous villain made of sludge attacking a man, trying to take over his body.

Without thinking, Izuku ran towards the danger. I followed, my heart pounding in my chest. Izuku was quirkless, but his bravery knew no bounds. He grabbed a broken piece of pipe and swung it at the Sludge Villain, trying to protect the man.

I knew I had to help. Channeling my Dragon Flames, I aimed carefully and shot a stream of blue fire at the villain. The flames licked at the sludge, causing it to sizzle and retreat momentarily. But the villain was relentless, surging forward again.

Just then, a massive figure appeared—a man with a broad chest and a confident smile. It was All Might. With a single, powerful punch, he dispersed the Sludge Villain, saving the man and leaving us in awe. All Might collected the villain's remains into bottles and thanked us for our bravery.

Izuku, always the fanboy, asked for an autograph. All Might obliged, but before he could leave, Izuku asked him the question that had been burning in his heart: "Can someone without a quirk become a hero?"

All Might hesitated, giving a complicated answer about the importance of quirks in being a hero. Izuku looked devastated, but before I could say anything, All Might had leaped away.

Izuku's POV

I couldn't believe it. All Might himself had just told me that being a hero without a quirk was nearly impossible. It was like my dreams were being shattered all over again. Kai tried to comfort me, but I could see the worry in his eyes too.

We started walking home, the weight of All Might's words heavy on my shoulders. But then, we heard an explosion. We ran towards the noise and saw the Sludge Villain had escaped and was now attacking Bakugo. The heroes present were struggling to contain the situation.

Without thinking, I sprinted towards Bakugo. I couldn't just stand there and do nothing. Kai was right behind me, his Dragon Flames ready. Together, we launched an attack. I threw debris to distract the villain while Kai's flames burned through the sludge, creating openings.

All Might arrived just in time to see our efforts. Inspired by our bravery, he powered up and delivered a devastating punch that completely dispersed the Sludge Villain. Bakugo was saved, but he looked at us with a mix of anger and confusion.

Kai's POV

After the incident, we were both scolded for acting recklessly, but also praised for our bravery. As we walked home, All Might appeared again, this time in his true form—thin and frail. He explained that he had a serious injury that limited his hero work.

All Might looked at Izuku with admiration and told him that true heroism was about having the heart to act in the face of danger. He then revealed his secret: he could pass on his quirk, One For All. To our astonishment, he offered it to Izuku, seeing the potential in his bravery.

Izuku was overwhelmed but accepted the offer. From that day, our training intensified. All Might trained Izuku to prepare his body for One For All, while I continued to hone my control over Dragon Flames. We pushed each other to the limits, driven by the knowledge that we could now both become the heroes we had always dreamed of being.

Several months later

Kai's POV

The UA High School entrance exam was our first real test. Izuku and I trained day and night, preparing for the challenges ahead. On the day of the exam, I felt a mixture of excitement and fear. I had to control my quirk, had to prove I could be a hero.

As the gates to UA opened, the atmosphere was electric. Aspiring heroes filled the grounds, each with their unique quirks and dreams. Izuku and I shared a determined glance before we were separated into different testing areas.

During the exam, the robots attacked relentlessly. I unleashed my Dragon Flames, destroying them with precision and power. But amidst the chaos, I saw Izuku struggling. He didn't have full control over One For All yet, but his determination was unwavering. When a massive robot threatened Uraraka, Izuku acted without hesitation. Using the strength of One For All, he managed to save her, earning crucial points.

I continued my rampage, my flames a blur of blue and heat. When the exam ended, I was exhausted but hopeful. The results came in a few days later—we both had made it. The joy on Izuku's face was priceless. We had overcome the first hurdle, and our dreams were within reach.

A few days later

Izuku's POV

Our first day at UA was a whirlwind of emotions. We met our classmates and our homeroom teacher, Shota Aizawa. His strict and no-nonsense attitude set the tone for our training, emphasizing the importance of hard work and discipline.

The Quirk Assessment Test was grueling. I was nervous, but having Kai by my side gave me the confidence to push through. Kai's performance was outstanding. He controlled his flames with precision, impressing everyone, even Bakugo. But I could see the strain on his face, the effort it took to keep his quirk in check. I wanted to help him, to ease his burden.

That night, I asked him about his nightmares. He hesitated but finally opened up. He spoke of a house engulfed in flames, of a family he couldn't remember. My heart ached for him. I promised we'd find out the truth together.

Kai's POV

Making friends at UA was easier than I expected. Ochaco Uraraka, Tenya Iida, and others welcomed us warmly. But Bakugo remained a constant rival, always pushing us to our limits.

During a training exercise, we faced Ashura, a rogue monk with a terrifying quirk. The battle was intense, and for a moment, I lost control of my flames. But Izuku's voice brought me back, his words grounding me. Together, we defeated Ashura, earning respect from our peers.

A few weeks later

Kai's POV

However, the nightmares persisted. One day, during a particularly intense training session, a fragment of memory surfaced—a villain, dark and menacing, standing amidst the flames. Could it be that the destruction of my home wasn't my fault?

Izuku's POV

Kai's memories began to surface, and with them, questions about his past. We started investigating, digging into old records and talking to anyone who might have known his family. It was slow, frustrating work, but we were determined.

One afternoon, after a particularly exhausting training session, we sat in the common area with our classmates. Ochaco, always curious, asked about our past.

"Hey, Kai, Izuku, how did you two become so close?" she asked, her eyes wide with curiosity.

Kai and I exchanged a glance. "We grew up together," Kai started. "Inko found me when I was young and took me in. She's been like a mother to me."

Ochaco smiled. "That's so sweet. You guys are like brothers."

"Yeah," I agreed. "We've been through a lot together."

Bakugo, who had been listening from a distance, scoffed. "Don't get too comfortable, Deku. Just because you made it into UA doesn't mean you're a hero."

I felt a familiar sting of insecurity but reminded myself of Kai's words. "I know I have a lot to learn, Kacchan, but I'm not going to give up."

Kai stepped in, his presence a comforting shield. "Izuku's stronger than you think, Bakugo. We both are."

Bakugo glared at us but said nothing, turning away. The tension lingered, but I felt a sense of pride. Kai believed in me, and that was enough.

Kai's POV

The days at UA were rigorous but rewarding. We trained hard, learned from the best, and grew stronger with each passing day. But the shadows of my past continued to haunt me.

One night, I had a particularly vivid nightmare. I saw a dark figure, a villain standing amidst the flames, his eyes glowing with malice. I woke up with a start, the image seared into my mind.

The next day

Kai's POV

During a patrol exercise, we encountered Kage, a villain with a shadow manipulation quirk. The exercise was meant to simulate a real-world scenario, and Kage was a formidable opponent.

As we patrolled the training grounds, the shadows around us began to shift and move. I tensed, feeling the familiar burn of my quirk ready to ignite. "Stay alert, Izuku. Something's not right."

Suddenly, Kage emerged from the darkness, his form shrouded in shadows. "Well, well, what do we have here? A couple of UA brats?" His voice was cold, filled with malice.

I stepped forward, my flames igniting in my hands. "We're not just any students. We're future heroes."

Kage laughed, a sinister sound that sent chills down my spine. "We'll see about that."

He moved with incredible speed, the shadows wrapping around him like a cloak. He attacked, his shadowy blades slicing through the air. I countered with a burst of flames, the heat pushing him back.

Izuku joined the fray, using One For All to enhance his movements. He delivered a powerful punch, creating a shockwave that disrupted the shadows. But Kage was relentless, his attacks coming from all directions.

I focused, channeling my energy. The flames around me intensified, burning brighter and hotter. "Izuku, cover me!"

Izuku nodded, his eyes filled with determination. He moved in, distracting Kage with a flurry of punches and kicks. I took a deep breath, feeling the power of my quirk surge through me.

With a roar, I unleashed a massive wave of blue flames, the heat scorching the ground. The flames engulfed Kage, burning away the shadows that protected him. He screamed, his form flickering as the heat consumed him.

But Kage wasn't done yet. He emerged from the flames, battered but still standing. "You think you've won?" he sneered, his eyes glowing with hatred. "You don't know the truth."

He raised his hand, and the shadows around us thickened, creating a barrier that separated me from Izuku. I could see the worry in Izuku's eyes as he struggled to break through the darkness.

Kage stepped closer, his voice a whisper. "The fire that destroyed your home... it wasn't an accident. It was the work of a villain named Zoltar."

The revelation hit me like a punch to the gut. "You're lying," I spat, my flames flickering with uncertainty.

Kage smirked. "Am I? Ask yourself why you remember the flames so vividly. Why the nightmares won't stop."

His words echoed in my mind, the memories of the fire flashing before my eyes. I felt a surge of anger, the flames around me flaring uncontrollably. "Enough!" I shouted, the heat intensifying.

With a final burst of energy, I unleashed a torrent of flames, the blue fire consuming everything in its path. Kage screamed as the heat overwhelmed him, his form disintegrating into smoke.

The shadows dissipated, and I collapsed to the ground, exhausted. Izuku rushed to my side, his expression filled with concern. "Kai, are you okay?"

I nodded, my breath coming in ragged gasps. "I'm fine. But we need to find out more about this Zoltar."

Izuku's POV

Finding out that Zoltar was responsible for Kai's family's death was a turning point. The guilt he had carried for so long began to lift, replaced by a burning desire for justice. Kai vowed to find Zoltar and make him pay for what he had done.

But first, we had to focus on becoming true heroes. With our friends by our side, we trained harder than ever. Kai's control over Dragon Flames improved, and I continued to learn the intricacies of One For All. We pushed each other to the limits, driven by the knowledge that we could now both become the heroes we had always dreamed of being.

Several months later

Kai's POV

The news of Zoltar's plan to merge dimensions spread quickly. UA High was on high alert. The teachers and pro heroes prepared for the ultimate showdown. I was determined to face Zoltar, fully aware of my past.

The battle was fierce. Zoltar's powers were overwhelming, and for a moment, it seemed like we might lose. But my determination and our combined strength turned the tide. I unleashed the full potential of my Dragon Flames, merging the essence of my past life's magic with my heroic spirit.

With Zoltar defeated and the worlds stabilized, we emerged victorious. The experience cemented our bonds and marked the beginning of a new era for UA High.

Izuku's POV

With the battle over, I felt a sense of peace I hadn't known in years. The nightmares were gone, replaced by dreams of a brighter future. I had found my family in Izuku, Inko, and our friends at UA. And though my past was filled with pain, it had also led me here, to a place where I could truly become a hero.

Together, we faced the challenges ahead, ready to protect our world and bring hope to those in need. And in the quiet moments, I remembered the little girl I saved and the second chance I had been given. I vowed to make the most of it, to honor the life I had been reborn into.
