Kael's dream was abruptly interrupted by a sharp, stinging pain on his cheek. His eyes flew open, and he found himself staring into the angry face of a guard. The slap had brought him back to the harsh reality of the slave camp.
"Wake up, worm!" the guard snarled, his grip tight on Kael's arm. "Darion wants to see you."
Kael's body ached with every movement, the pain from his previous beating still fresh. But he forced himself to stand, his mind already working on a plan. He couldn't let despair take hold. He had to find a way to escape, to survive. The memories of his past, as painful as they were, had also made him resilient. He would use that resilience now, in this new hell he found himself in.
As the guard dragged him towards Darion's tent, Kael's thoughts turned inward. The shadow power that had once surged through him was gone, leaving him feeling more vulnerable than ever. But he couldn't let that stop him. He had survived worse before, and he would survive this.
Darion's tent loomed ahead, the flickering light from within casting ominous shadows on the ground. Kael took a deep breath, steeling himself for whatever was to come. He would find a way to escape this place. He would find a way to avenge his parents and reclaim his life. And he would make Darion pay for every moment of suffering he had inflicted.
Kael's father had taught him about the elemental spirits that governed their world. Spirits were entities of immense power, capable of manipulating the elements. There were three main types of elemental spirits: Basic, Rare, and Unique.
Basic spirits included Water, Fire, Wind, and Earth. These were the most common and could be found in many individuals. They granted their wielders control over their respective elements, allowing them to perform extraordinary feats. Rare spirits were combinations of basic elements or more complex elements like Lava (a combination of Fire and Earth), Lightning, and Ice. These spirits were less common and significantly more powerful than the basic ones.
Unique spirits were the rarest and most potent. They were not tied to specific elements but were instead manifestations of an individual's deepest characteristics and emotions. These could include spirits like Shadow, Blood, and Animal Manipulation. Unique spirits were incredibly rare, with only a handful of people in the entire world possessing them.
Kael's shadow spirit was one such unique spirit, born from the darkness and rage within him. It was a power few understood and even fewer could control. His premature awakening of the shadow spirit had damaged his spirit circuit, leaving him vulnerable and in constant pain.
Inside the tent, a figure stood waiting. She was cloaked in an aura of mystery and power, her presence commanding immediate attention. Her eyes, a piercing blue, seemed to see through the very soul of anyone who dared meet her gaze. She was here for a reason, and Darion's demeanor reflected the gravity of her visit.
"Milady," Darion began, his voice trembling as he fell to his knees. "I have brought the boy as you requested."
Kael, still defiant despite his pain, glared at Darion. "I will kill you, Darion. You and everyone who had a hand in my suffering."
The woman turned her gaze to Kael, intrigued. "So much anger in one so young," she mused. "And yet, there is something else."
She approached Kael, her presence overwhelming. "What is your name, child?"
Kael hesitated, his anger giving way to curiosity. "Kael," he replied, his voice barely a whisper.
The woman nodded. "Kael, do you know what you are?"
Kael shook his head, confusion mingling with his rage. He had to act as though he was ignorant of the elemental spirits, even though his father had taught him well.
"You possess a unique elemental spirit," she explained. "A shadow spirit, born from your very essence. It is a power few in this world possess."
She glanced at Darion, who was still kneeling, his head bowed. "Darion, this boy's spirit circuit is damaged, isn't it?"
Darion nodded fearfully. "Yes, Milady. The power he awakened was too much for his body to handle. It has left him vulnerable."
The woman smiled, her gaze returning to Kael. "I see potential in you, Kael. Potential that should not be wasted in a place like this."
Kael's anger flared. "I don't care about your potential. I need to kill Darion and everyone behind him."
The woman's patience waned, and she let out a sigh. Her spiritual aura burst forth, a wave of power that forced everyone in the tent to their knees.
BOOM BOOM
Everyone except Kael. He fought against the overwhelming force, his body trembling but refusing to submit.
The woman smiled approvingly. "Such determination. I like that."
With a swift motion, she struck Kael's neck, rendering him unconscious. She lifted him with her spiritual power, turning to leave the tent.
"Milady," Darion called out, his voice shaking. "The payment..."
The woman turned, her eyes cold and unforgiving. "Payment?" She raised her hand, a blade of spiritual energy slicing through the air.
SLASH
Darion screamed as his left hand was severed, blood gushing out in a dramatic display.
"Is this price acceptable?" she asked, her voice icy.
Darion, tears streaming down his face, nodded frantically. "Yes, Milady. Yes."
Without another word, the woman exited the tent, carrying Kael with her. The other slaves and guards watched in awe and fear as she left the camp, the flickering light from the tent casting long shadows on the ground.
