In the quiet confines of his office, Genzo sat down, carefully unsealing the letter delivered by Kade. The villagers were bustling outside, oblivious to the emotional weight contained within the simple envelope. Genzo unfolded the paper, his hands trembling slightly, and began to read.
The Letter
"To Genzo and everyone in Cocoyashi Village,"
"I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. First, I want to assure you that we are safe and doing well. Life aboard the ship has been challenging, but we have faced every trial with determination and hope."
The letter went on to outline a vision for the future:
"Genzo, I've been thinking about the village. I want to see roads that connect every part of Cocoyashi, making it easier for everyone to trade and travel. A school where the children can learn and dream beyond the seas that surround them. Houses that are strong enough to withstand storms, and a temple to honor Lord Ganesha and Hanuman Ji—places where we can celebrate festivals together. Please take care to observe Ganpati celebrations with devotion and ensure Hanuman Jayanti is marked with joy and unity."
A small smile appeared on Genzo's face as he imagined the bustling village Atharva described. But the tone of the letter shifted as Atharva recounted his journey since leaving Conomi Island.
"After we left the village, we found ourselves in many dangerous situations. We saved people from pirates attacking a small coastal town and later from a collapsing bridge that endangered a dozen lives. It was not easy, but it felt right. Along the way, I found two little girls, Lillie and Miko. They are bright, full of energy, and have become a part of our family aboard the ship."
Genzo could picture the girls running around Atharva, their laughter filling the ship.
"I wish I could say we'll see you soon, but the truth is, we must leave the East Blue. You should have seen the bounty poster; it's no longer safe for us here. Our journey will take us far from Conomi Island, and it will be a long time before Nami and Nojiko can return. But don't worry—I haven't forgotten my promise to you. I will always protect them and make sure they are safe."
"Take care of the village, and take care of yourself. Until we meet again."
"—Atharva"
The Village Reacts
Genzo sighed as he finished reading, his thoughts swirling. He folded the letter carefully and placed it in his coat pocket. Rising from his chair, he glanced out the window at the bustling square. "They'll leave sooner or later, but this fast? They're meant for greater things."
He stepped outside and walked to the center of the village, gathering everyone. As the villagers assembled, their eager faces reflected their curiosity.
"I've received a letter from Atharva," Genzo announced.
A cheer erupted, and questions flew like cannonfire.
"How are they?"
"Are Nami and Nojiko okay?"
"When will they come back?"
"Will we have another banquet when they return?"
Genzo chuckled, raising his hands to quiet the crowd. "They're safe and doing well," he said. "But it'll be a long time before they can return. They've got a dangerous road ahead."
The villagers' excitement faded slightly, replaced by understanding and determination.
"But," Genzo added, his voice firm, "we have work to do. Atharva hasn't forgotten about us. He's asked us to build a better future for our village—together."
The villagers nodded, their spirits lifting once more. Aron, standing at the back, observed quietly. His eyes flicked to the letter tucked in Genzo's coat. Curiosity burned within him, but he restrained himself. These people trusted him, and he wouldn't betray that trust—not now, not when he was leaving soon.
As the crowd dispersed, Aron approached Genzo. "I'll be leaving in four days," he said.
Genzo raised an eyebrow. "Your research is done?"
Aron nodded. "It's a shame. We could've used your help on our next project," Genzo remarked, smiling faintly. Aron didn't reply, simply offering a small nod before walking away.
An Unexpected Arrival
Two days later, the villagers were busy working on the plans inspired by Atharva's letter. The air buzzed with energy as they discussed roads, schools, and festivals. But the lively atmosphere was shattered when a fisherman came running into the village, shouting, "The Marines are coming!"
Everything stopped. Tools were dropped, and conversations fell silent as fear gripped the villagers. They remembered too well the corruption and betrayal they'd faced from the Marines in the past. To them, the sight of a Marine ship on the horizon was as terrifying as a pirate flag.
Aron watched the villagers' reactions, guilt settling deep in his chest. "This won't be easy to change," he muttered under his breath.
Genzo's face turned serious as he started walking toward the dock. A small group of villagers followed him, their expressions grim and determined.
Out on the water, Garp's warship loomed larger as it approached. The ship's distinctive dog figurehead glinted in the sunlight, a symbol of justice that felt hollow to the villagers. Behind it, another Marine ship followed, its presence adding to the tension.
Standing on the deck, Garp laughed loudly. "Look at that! The villagers are coming to greet us!"
Lieutenant Asta, standing nearby, frowned. "I doubt that, sir."
Gion, observing from the side, crossed her arms. "They don't look like they're here to welcome us, Vice Admiral."
But Garp only laughed harder. "They'll warm up to us soon enough!"
As the warship docked, Garp's eyes scanned the villagers. His gaze stopped on a familiar figure. "Well, well… isn't that Aron?"
Aron stood among the villagers, his expression unreadable. But inside, his heart raced as he braced himself for what was to come.
