Chereads / Artifact Collector / Chapter 8 - First Revelation and Deliberation

Chapter 8 - First Revelation and Deliberation

Waking from a deep sleep, I find myself still inside the chamber, laying on the floor. Forcing myself into an upright position, I look around the now completed chamber.

To the side of the room that I came from, an orb is on the ground, meaning the huge goblin I killed did drop something. That's good at least. In the middle of the room is another Artifact.

Letting my body fall down again, I lay in pain on the floor. Between the hits I took, and the last attack I did, my entire body is wrecked. I did get one good thing though.

Revelation!

Quality Metal Rod (Uncommon)

Greatly increase damage when attacking with brute strength instead of technique

Muscle head's dream weapon

That explains why my last attack was much stronger than I thought it would be. Groaning in pain, I get myself standing, and pick up the orb from the goblin. It's a bit larger than the other ones, but that's it.

Walking over to the middle of the room, I look at the Artifact on the ground. Can I even call it an Artifact though? Looking at the human eye on the floor, I feel no urge to pick it up.

[Gauge] doesn't give me anything, other than that it IS an Artifact. I walk to the other side of it to get a better look at it. The outside of the eye is a pale white, with no veins or anything going through it. No optic nerve is connected to it, put there is a place where on could connect.

The pupil of the eye was shrunk, looking more like a cat eye than human. The color is a cloudy light green, with floating bits of brown throughout it. The very center of the eye is pitch black, with what looks like shadows moving around inside of it.

Deciding not to waste the reward of the most difficult fight I have ever been in, I tentatively pick it up. Against my expectations, the outer shell is actually made of a glass-like substance.

Trinket

The eye of a madman. Can see possibilities and impossibilities.

Upgradable.

Effects are enhanced when equipped.

-----

I am NOT equipping a LITERAL eye! It doesn't take a genius to figure out what that means. At least it doesn't have to be equipped to work at all. Is there anything I can do to make it so that I don't have to carry an eye around, though?

That's right! When I was in the Act thing, I didn't have any of the Artifa- Advents, on me. I just thought of summoning it when I saw the scroll. That means I should be able to Unsummon thing?

No point in not trying. Thinking about the eye, I imagine it disappearing, and I feel the weight in my hand vanish. Looking at my hand, the eye is nowhere to be found. According to my Artifact list, I still have it, and since it isn't something that needs to be activated to work, I think it still will, even though I don't have it on me.

Looking around the room, I notice that I can now go through the three halls that were cut off before. With nothing better to do, I slowly make my way down the hall to the left of where I came from. The hall is similar to the one before, but with more torches, and a brighter atmosphere, but that might just be me.

After a few minutes of walking, I see shadows forming a monster again, and I take a step back to prepare. The shadows vanish, leaving no trace of anything.

That's... odd. I take a step forwards, and the same thing happens, but I take a closer look this time. The shadows seem lighter than before, transparent even. When I take another step, darker shadows take their place, but they follow the exact same path as the lighter shadows did to form the monster.

When I take a step back, the monster continues to form, becoming a slime. Putting figure out what that was onto my to-do list, I focus on the fight. [Gauge] tells me that it's about as strong as the one from before, but this one has acidity to it.

I take care of the slime in the same way I did before (without breaking my knee this time), waiting for it to become solid before crushing the core. With the quality rod, it's much easier than the first one was.

That's not the only reason it was so easy though.

STR 7 DEX 7 CON 5 MP 5 LK -1 INT 9 ??:??

-----

My stats have been increasing a lot, and the large goblin from before gave me more than 1 stat point. With the slime being at the strength of the first one I fought, it didn't have a chance. And, compared to the fight with the big goblin, this doesn't even feel like a serious fight.

I still need to figure out why my Luck is at -1 though. That seems to be the only one that isn't changing. And the whole ?? thing too. Now that I think about it, I have a lot to figure out.

Where am I? How did I get here? Why did my body change? Why did I lose my memories? Can I get them back? What is the Dungeon World? Are there other people here? How fast am I getting strong? Fast? Slow? Normal? Why is my Luck weird? Why is my age weird? I still don't have a name either.

Oh. I don't have a name.

If I find other people, which I hope I do, I'll need some way to introduce myself. I can't really say "I fell through the floor and lost my memories, so I don't have a name" without people thinking I'm crazy or something.

I should probably come up with something. Definitely not a girly name, that would feel weird since I used to be male. I shouldn't use a very masculine name either, since that would be confusing and raise suspicion.

So, something in between. Jay? That's not bad. Not an uncommon name for a girl, but not overly girly. Maybe something a bit more abstract, like Lumin. A solid choice too.

Sitting down against the wall, I wrack my brain for ideas, trying to find something that clicks with me. In the end, I decide to choose later, since I have more important things to dwell on. Like existential crisis's.

Now that I think about it, I've been a lot calmer than in the beginning. Is it because my INT went up so much? That would make sense, but I don't know why I was so freaked out before. Other than the obvious 'falling through the floor and finding myself in a murderous dungeon'.

Other than that, I do have a few survival things I need to figure out. How do I level up? What does it mean to level up? what are the achievements? How good of artifacts is it possible for me to get right now? How do I get out of the dungeon? Is the whole world a dungeon, since it's called Dungeon World? Is there a better place to get food and water?

With all these thoughts racing through my mind, I slowly drift to sleep again, letting my still beat up body heal naturally.
