Verina's brown eyes refused to leave his gaze, although the memory of that night, the crisp fire was still fresh in her memory, as well as the realization of who he was. Yet, she felt her heart beating rapidly at the close proximity.
Realizing where her mind was drifting, she moved away from him, now standing a few feet. Her leg wobbled; it almost seemed as if she would fall again, but she managed to stay on her feet. "Thank you," she said again.
"Mhmm," Maximum mumbled, dusting dirt off his hand. He then stared at his brown hands, hoping there was no trace of dirt. When he was certain he looked clean, he cleared his throat and looked at her. "I will let you go now, but do not forget what I have told you. One word will end your life."
Verina nodded animatedly, promising herself she would never come across these strange beings again.
"Good," Maximum said, a curve appearing on his lip. "Take my hand; I shall return you."
