Chapter 28
INEI YOTSUBA
The atmosphere in the waiting room for the final of Monolith Code was literally chilling as he sat there with two of the School's premiere female icons standing beside him, glaring at the other two contestants.
Both Miyuki and Mayumi were glaring so hard that the poor bastards sitting at the corner of the bench were shivering both in fear and the cold that was permeating throughout the room. It was fun to watch two of them shivering like that, but essentially they were kittens, and so he used his psions, pushing them out, neutralizing the effect of Miyuki's magic as he spoke up.
"That is enough, you two," he said as he leaned back.
"If you stare any longer, you will burn a hole through them," he reasoned as Mayumi smiled.
"Maybe I should, she added as Miyuki joined her.
"Or we could freeze them. I have heard it can be very distressing," she added softly as if both of them weren't just talking about murdering two little jerks.
"All right, you two get out," he said, glaring at the two idiotic teammates he had been saddled with. They had been Katsuto's addition, but the third-year boy had sent a message his way saying that their inaction was not on his orders.
Both of them were quick enough to comply and rushed out of the room, leaving him alone with Miyuki and Mayumi, whose tempers were yet to cool off.
"Relax, we are in the finals, their actions, or their inaction doesn't matter," he spoke softly as Mayumi sighed.
"I know, but still, I do not know why the hell did you not let me change the team. I could have pulled some strings. We have enough dirt on the committee to bulldoze them over this," she added and he sighed.
"I cannot imagine why one would sell out like that. Just what made them both do this," Miyuki added, and he answered.
"Money," and it was not even that hard to get out of them. One glare and both of them had melted like ice cream, telling him what it had taken for them to be bought. Supposedly, they were both from troubled families, with a lot of debt from various issues, and seriously in need of money.
And so when someone from one of the Ten Master Clans reached out, offering money for literally doing nothing, they signed up.
"What?" Mayumi's head snapped towards him at the answer as he shrugged.
"Yeah, they told me all about the deal. I even helped them renegotiate for the rest of the matches, including the finals. Whoever is behind this they were ready to dish out quite a bit of money for this needless stunt," he smirked. For even if they had not bought of his teammates, he had always planned to fight in Monolith Code alone, because no one apart from a handful of people in the school could even keep up with him.
"What!"
"What!"
And both Mayumi and Miyuki seemed rather distraught at his answer as he nodded, confirming his own words.
"Yeah, they were in a bad place pushed to choose between my wrath, and the wrath of one of the Ten Master Clans. From what teh deal is, they are going to badmouth me infront of the press after the finals as well, calling me proud and shit. That was another bit of cash," he added and he could see that both of them were stunned, trying to make sense of the revelation.
However, they should have realized this by now.
"But why didn't you pay them off yourself? You are loaded with all the money you pulled out from No-Head-Dragon," Mayumi added, and he saw Miyuki's eyes narrow.
"Then that investment money, that is where it came from," Miyuki added, and it seemed like the threads were unraveling.
"Haven't you heard it's always better to take money from others, especially if you can do so by doing nothing," he joked, and then before he could react, Mayumi's fist was flying towards his head.
THWACK! THWACK!
"You fool, you made us worry for nothing!" she raged as she slapped him on the head, and he let her vent, knowing that she was indeed worried about him. Even though, by now, she should have realised that there was no need for something like that.
She finally stopped a few minutes later, her face flushed in rage and embarrassment, as Miyuki looked on.
"So, all this time, you have been playing the perpetrators," she asked, and he nodded.
"Yeah, why else do you think Maya Yotsuba has not made her move," he spoke seriously and saw Mayumi gulp at the mention of his mother. For everyone knew what would happen if the Yotsuba moved—destruction.
"I thought she just did not care," Miyuki asked after a few seconds and Inei simply shrugged.
"Maybe she doesn't but I can handle this on my own," and with that he looked at the clock and saw the time.
"I need to get going. The match is about to start," and he really did.
"This is the finals, Inei-kun," Maymi suddenly added.
"You are going be facing Third High's team, which includes both Cardinal George, and the Crimson Prince. Is it really wise to go up against them with such a handicap," Mayumi asked, and he shrugged.
"I don't care, I am going to defeat them no matter who it is, no matter what the circumstances are," and with that he stood up and walked towards as he stared into her eyes.
"After all, I have a date with you on the line," he pointed out, and she seemed to be taken aback as he flicked her forehead.
"Ouch," she winced in pain, glaring at him.
"Wish me luck, and you better prepare. Because I am going to win," and with that, he ducked under her haphazard slap as he waved to a chuckling Miyuki and an embarrassed Mayumi.
"We should have expected that. We damn should have expected that," he heard Miyuki whisper as he was about to walk out.
"Yeah, we should have."

CRIMSON PRINCE
The terrain for the final was Third High's choice. And they had chosen to go for a city level, believing that the walls would allow them to have a better shot at Inei Yotsuba, hampering his ability to topple everything with that magic of his.
He was a menace, fighting all his matches by himself even as his other teammates just hung back doing nothing. Not even moving an inch, even when attacked by an enemy, was a damn disgrace.
And one he would not stand for.
And so as the match began, Masaki reached for the ear piece in his ear, calling the opponent, it was unorthodox technique, but something that was not against the rules.
BEEP.
BEEP.
And as he had expected, the Yotsuba heir picked it up.
"Are you calling me to give up?" and immediately, teh taunt came, and yet Masaki did not let it affect him.
"I know about your teammate's circumstances, and if you wish to make it fair, I am willing to face you all alone," he offered; it was something that they had already decided, and George gave him a nod as there was silence, on the other side before the answer came.
"There is no need," came the answer as Masaki's lips turned slightly up.
"Come at me with everything you have, Crimson Prince. " The call then shut up, and he looked towards George.
"You were right. He did not go for it," he replied as George nodded.
"Well, that was expected," he replied as Masaki reached for his CAD.
"Then you better get ready George, you know how this all lands on you," and with that he rushed forward, jumping out of the window as he rushed towards the opposing team's monolith, knowing that this was the only way for him to draw out Inei Yotsuba.
And as he was rushing towards them, he saw him. Simply walking down the street with his CAD in hand as their eyes met, Masaki began to fire off his magic at him.
Rupture, it was an A-ranked ability one which he had depowered to comply with teh competition regulations, and even then, it was fairly harmful and as he saw blasts rushing towards Inei Yotsuba the boy did not move as they dissipated, striking that invisible shield around him.
"Hello there, could you please point me in the direction of a little black box," Inei Yotsuba asked him, as Masaki grit his teeth, clicking his CAD in succession as a thousand or so rupture activation sequences erupted all around Inei Yotsuba.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
And they all rushed towards him, causing a major explosion and damage that would have been classified as A-class, but since it was caused by a collection of B-ranked spells, it was not technically against the rules.
And yet, as the dust cleared, he saw him simply standing there unbothered by teh massive crater that now surrounded him as he looked him in the eye.
"I am going to take that as a no," and with that Masaki felt a massive force strike him in the gut sending him tumbling back.
"AGHHH!" his back hit the wall, and he fell to the ground, as his body seared in pain.
He fell to teh ground as Inei Yotsuba continued to walk toward him.
"You are pretty strong, Kichiouji. Let no one else tell you otherwise, it is just a tragedy that I am your opponent," the boy added as Masaki looked up at him.
"Yeah, its shit luck. But the thing is, I am not facing you all alone," he replied as he shouted.
"Now! DO IT!" he screamed, and the boy frowned as immediately the bases of teh building around him exploded, sending them tumbling towards Inei Yotsuba, ready to bury him dead.
"We win," he smirked as the boy raised a brow.
"Interesting. A bit against the rules but still, very interesting," and then he saw him raise a hand as the boy closed his eyes, no concern for the concrete ready to collapse on top of him as he brought together his and whispered.
"Cleave!"
BOOOM!
