Chapter 37
MAJOR ANGIE SIRIUS-ANGELIA KUDO SHIELDS
The aftermath of the GAA's attack and Japan's retaliation shaken the whole world and, more importantly, the higher-ups of the USNA government. Initially, she was supposed to join the invading forces and use the chaos to attack and neutralize the element known as Inei Yotsuba, but there simply had not been enough time.
One moment, the attack had begun, and an hour later, it was all over. All of GAA's forces wiped out within minutes as Japan unleashed their newest Apostle, Inei Yotsuba, now being hailed as the world's first Calamity-class magician.
And soon after the attack, a directive arrived, one detailing her to wait for backup from certain allies before launching another offensive and, in the meantime, use her prowess to locate the said target.
Tracking down Inei Yotsuba was a hassle. He was immediately taken away by Japanese forces, and even after days, she had found no trace of him until help had arrived, and it had come from rather a strange avenue.
"Are you sure he is in there?" she questioned the blue-haired man, who crouched beside her looking at the monastery through his binoculars.
"I am positive. That monastery is hosting three of Japan's most prominent magicians. A successful attack there would put an end to this war before it even begins," and yet as she looked at it herself, she found herself questioning her morals as her eyes landed on the young monks training there and how such an attack would cause too much damage.
"Still, there will be too much collateral damage. And attacking two clan leaders would only incite this war," she challenged, and the blue-haired man turned towards her.
"That is thoughtful of you, Major Sirius, but I am afraid you are mistaken," and with that, she saw him give the signal as she felt the magic being activated infront of her eyes as the sky above the monastery lit up.
"We are already at war...." and her eyes widened as she saw the magic activate, magic that was classified in the same category as her Heavy Metal Burst, a strategic class magic.
"That is..." she gasped as the air above the monastery heated up in seconds before an explosion rocked the whole area.
"Truman Bomb...."
SAEGUSA KOUICHI
As situation in Japan deteriorated further and further with both the Yotsuba and the Saegusa clans on the verge of a engaging in a civil war, a strongly worded message had come from the higher ups in the government basically forcing the Saegusa clan to sit down with the Yotsuba clan and to end this conflict through negotiations.
Already the USNA had failed to condemn GAA's attack on their sovereignty, and instead calls were being made to declare Inei Yotsuba as an escapee, or a terrorist asking for him to be handed over to the USNA until the matter was resolved or his case was handled.
Right now, Japan had lost the USNA as an ally, and the GAA was seething in rage and preparing a full-force offensive against them—the very thing he had hoped to avoid by destroying Inei Yotsuba. Yet the boy had destroyed all their hopes and had set Japan on a war path.
"As both of you may know, I have been tasked to facilitate this meeting. I will not be interfering and am only here as a facilitator," the retired shinobi added from the side as he stood face to face with a girl he was one day supposed to marry, not for the great tragedy that had struck them in their youth.
Maya Yotsuba had retained much of her features from her youth and looked not a day older than thirty while he knew that she was halfway past her forties. The man behind her was her most trusted advisor and aide, the infamous Hayama Tadanori.
And seeing him made him miss the reassuring presence of Nakura at his back, another casualty of her accursed boy.
"As both of you are aware, Japan is facing an existential threat at the moment as both the USNA and the GAA threaten to ally against us and plunge us into a war. At this time, we cannot afford to have division within our own ranks, and the purpose of this meeting is to get rid of this division and to bring together the might of Japan's strongest families," and he scoffed sharply at those words.
"It is because of her so-called son that we are in this situation," he taunted, and yet the woman did not react to his taunt and simply smiled as she sipped her tea.
"To think that we were to be married once and could have been allies, it is such a blessing that it did not come to pass," and he had to force himself to not react to those scathing words, as he sighed.
"If these negotiations are to continue I believe we must avoid such allegations and move towards more productive topics," the monk intervened before he could answer as both of them gave him a nod.
Angry as he was, he was not blind to the situation they had on their hands. And it seemed to him that the government had already made its mind, and so he had little choice in the matter anyway.
"My daughter, I want her handed back to me," he demanded and saw Maya shake her head.
"I am afraid I cannot do that," and his eyes narrowed at those words.
"And why is that? By what right have you kept her away from her family, form her own father," he challenged.
"Mayumi Saegusa has sought the protection and alliance of the Yotsuba clan and has been granted as such, she will not be going anywhere," and he scoffed at those words.
"That is preposterous. These are all lies; you are just trying to force our hand and blackmail me and my clan into capitulating to your demands," Maya did not answer, and yet the voice that did was awfully familiar.
"It is not a lie," and the answer came from the side, and the doors slid open to reveal two people walking into the room, both of whom were much familiar to him.
That white-haired, he was the one person who had just pushed Japan to the brink of war, and beside him stood his own daughter, Mayumi, who was eyeing him with such cold eyes.
"I have indeed sought the protection of the Yotsuba clan," she repeated as he shook his head.
"Why?" he asked.
"Because I know what you did," and those words sent a chill down his spine. He had done a lot to make sure that their secret never came out, and yet here she was, threatening him with his greatest shame.
He had even had Nakura killed just to protect his secret.
"And what exactly is that?" he asked, not letting his anger show as Mayumi raised a brow.
"Do you wish for it to be brought onto the record here?" she asked looking towards the bald monk sitting to his side as his fists balled up, all the while Maya Yotsuba sat there smiling at him while sipping her tea.
"She is willing to testify to everything in a full setting of the TMC council. You do know how that would look," she added, and he shook his head.
"The Kudo clan has accepted all responsibility for the crimes you speak of and has already been removed from their position. The Saegusa clan is a victim here, you cannot turn us into villains," he challenged, and that was the only thing that had allowed him to keep the five votes in the TMC council.
And if Mayumi did indeed testify, he was not sure he would be able to keep those votes.
"You and I both know that if I use it, your clan's fate will be just as bad as the Kudo's, and let alone that there are people within the Kudo clan who are willing to speak to these facts as well. People like their newest appointed head," and with that, she clicked her fingers as another person entered the room, and this time, he was far more surprised by her presence.
"I would like you to meet the new clan head of the Kudo clan, Fujibayashi Kyouko," and the electron sorceress stood there, as she gave the Yotsuba clan head a nod.
"I am thankful for the opportunity to make amends, Maya-sama," she added as the Yotsuba devil smirked as Kouichi felt the noose tighten, her plan now visible to him.
He was cornered.
"You are in quite a pickle there, Saegusa-kun," Yakumo Kokonoe added as he grit his teeth and turned towards Maya Yotsuba and asked the most damning question.
"What do you want?" and there was silence before she answered.
"You know what happens to those who go against the Yotsuba," and there was a threat in her tone as her eyes narrowed.
"And there will be no exception this time. You are going to resign, and the Saegusa clan will be led by her," and with that she pointed her finger at his daughter.
"Mayumi Saegusa will be the new clan head of the Saegusa clan, at least until she marries and takes the name of my family, of the Yotsuba clan...."
"Something is wrong..." Inumaki's words made them all halt, as he frowned as the boy's gaze turned up, and as he sued his own magic to scan the surroundings he stilled as he saw the sky above them shifting, as he felt a magical sequence getting activated.
"That magic..." he recognized it immediately, for it was one of the strategic class magic of a member of the thirteen apostles.
"It's the Truman Bomb!" he shouted, but by then, it was too late.
