Victor chuckled while glancing around to see if anyone else was listening. A few students had stopped to watch the exchange. "Maybe you're right, Lily. But I think the truth deserves to be known, don't you? We wouldn't want anyone living under false pretenses, now would we?"
Edmund sighed inwardly. He could already see where this was going, but he refused to rise to their taunts. "Think what you like, Victor," he repeated with a firm tone. "But I'm not going to waste my breath defending myself to someone whose only interest is spreading mere gossip like a woman."
Victor's eyes flashed with annoyance, but he quickly masked it with a lazy grin. "Fair enough, Crown Prince. But don't be surprised if you hear a few… rumors floating around. After all, it's only fair that people know both sides of the story."
