Chapter 2 - The Facility

[Dr. Ren -Over General Call Speaker]

"Follow the cities disaster management plan for the regular casualties and send them to the city hospitals they have the extended capacity to care for them, and bring the rest of the heavily injured over here, do no leave them to the civilian doctors. Bring our radiologists in, we need them to asses the radiation level and safety equipment."

After giving these orders, she slipped out of the room to go over some details about patient placements...

[Helen-Over General Call Speaker]

"Separate patients based on their TBSA percentage, all patients below 10% should be placed together in general ward no. 7.

While those with higher than 10% should be placed in no. 9 general ward. Bring them in for resuscitation and ventilation support.

Further bifurcate both groups into Blunt Trauma and Open Wound Trauma.

Start with Open Wound Trauma, clean them and start suturing it, make sure to administrate pain killers, once done move to therapy ward and start fluid therapy.

For the Blunt Trauma victim's empty out their wounds if there is any signs of inflation and blood clots! once done shift them to therapy ward as well."

[Helen]

"Ren there are three abnormal cases reported so far, and they have already been moved and prepped for surgery, they're just waiting for you're arrival now."

[Dr. Ren]

"Ok good, I'll go and take care of that, but i need you to go back to the incident site and scout it out again, and try and find Jackson we're gonna need him now more than ever."

Helen node's and start walking towards the doors, but Dr. Ren grabs her arm and looks her in the eye, Dr. Ren's face was ridden with concern, and this unsettled Helen on a whole new level, because the only other time she had seen Dr. Ren being concerned about something, it had turned out to a life and death situation for her.

[Helen]

"What is it? What's wrong?"

[Dr. Ren]

"Just be careful of your surroundings, this even didn't seen very natural to me."

After that exchange, Helen just nodded and moved on towards the doors.

Once Helen was out of the door, Dr. Ren turned on her heels and faced the announcement system, checked the CCTV's live footage, and took a deep breath, trying to steady herself and find her footing, because what was about to take place was very taxing for her mind and body alike.

As she was walking towards her personal, operation theater specially designed for her expertise and work flow style, the room was a standard 20' x 20' x 10' feet large room equipped with standard procedural equipment of a emergency OT room, e.g. Surgical wall mounted lamp, X-ray machine, Surgical table bed (Deluxe electric operation table), Patient Monitor (12.1" Material & Fetal Motion & 6 Parameters monitors), Trolly, Anesthesia Machine, Infusion Pump, Pendant, Endoscope, Suction Machine, Blood Warmer, Defibrillator, ECG machine, Electrosurgical unit, Loup, Oxygen Generator, Surgical Saw & Drill, Ventilator.

Just standard equipment with unusual herbs and vegetation in the with standard medication in the cabinets.

Dr. Ren's medical practice included of both modern medicines and ancient healing practices of the Himalayan monk's, the only reason she uses it and is able to use this particular medical practice is because of her gift of healing! which she gained at the age of 10.

[Assistant Doctor]

"The room is ready ma'am, we're good to start with the procedure."

[Dr. Ren]

"Good, give me an over all reading of them, and have you started with fluids yet?"

[Assistant doctor #2]

"No ma'am we haven't started on the fluids yet, we were waiting for your orders, we--"

[Dr. Ren]

"WHAT! you didn't start fluids yet?? why?... these are burn patients they need those fluids more than anything! start with fluid therapy and flush out all the toxins in them right away! Only and only after will their bodies be able to handle the strain of the procedures!"

[Assistant doctor #2]

"Yes ma'am, sorry ma'am, we'll get started right away ma'am."

It wasn't actually their faults, because Dr. Ren's procedures were to be honest very complicated and at times very confusing for normal people! and these assistants were fairly new to the team and weren't really familiar with Dr. Ren's treatment methods.

Once they got all three of the abnormalities on the fluid therapy and flushed their systems of the toxins Dr. Ren started with her healing procedure which lasted about 5 hours each patient!

All the while, Helen was at the site of the incident working alongside with the special forces to isolate the area, and investigate as to what might have caused this very peculiar incident.[Helen]

"What do u thing happened here, Captain Evans any thoughts on how or why this would have happened to this particular building, in this entire area and still not even scratch anything else in it's surroundings?"Helen turned to a 6'11 tall man in his mid 30's with pale skin and sharp blue eyes covered by an pair of brown aviator shades, his face sharp yet soft around the edge of his nose, body towering over helen herself, covering her in its shadow in the sharp sunlight, under the sharp skin pressed uniform one could make out the silhouette of his hard and chiseled body... this figure answer's her with...

[Captain Evans]

"I have as much of an idea as you do right now, the main question to me here is, who, why and how did they target this particular building in the first place Or Were they targeting someone in particular? "

[Helen]

"What makes you think it was for someone in particular? And not just a random occurrence?"

[Captain Evans]

"Well, first of all only the people in the cafeteria were affected and nobody else in the entire damn building was even scratched, yeah sure some might have sustained some damage while trying to get out of the building and got smoke in their lungs but other than panic casualties there was nothing else that indicates towards it being a random occurrence and not be a well planed and well executed plan...."

[Helen]

"That makes sense sure, but who in our entire world has the ability to cause such as unusual casualty and get away with it without being detected by any of the satellites, not just ours but every satellite in the fucking orbit!? HOW!"

[Captain Evans]

"No need to shout, your not the only one pulling their hair out because of this so, relax and lets do what we both were sent here to do... ok?"

There was nothing felt for Helen to say, and so that made her cheeks flush with blood out of embarrassment.

[Helen]

"Right... lets get a move on..."

And with that they went inside the now wrecked cafeteria, of an game designing company...

There wasn't much to see in the wreckage, other than some unfortunate burnt carcasses and rubble with molten glass everywhere the eye can see, the glass pieces had solidified by now and were glistening in the soft after rain glow of the sun... making the scene look like stary night sky with golden and orange glows from the clouds...

The orange glow was coming from the still searing hot rubble that had yet to cool down.

Walking in there, felt like taking a stroll in an alive graveyard, everything was still moving either because of the flare or because, cities damage control was moving around in the background trying to clear out the rubble, as beautiful the scene this entire place created, it's still a disaster site with people in mourning of their dead while others being spectators to this unsightly horror, for some reason people found it amusing as if this couldn't have been them and yet they make a spectacle of this beautiful horror show!

While walking through the rubble on the ground floor, they didn't seem to find anything new which could give them an insight about the incident and it's occurrence.

[Helen]

"Shall we check the other floors? I feel like there might be something up there for us..."

[Captain Evans]

"Sure, i don't really see the harm in it."

After the exchange they both walked silently towards the stairs, while inspecting every little thing that seemed out of the ordinary.

Keeping a neutral pace, both of them reached the roof-top of the building without finding anything of use.... But once there, the burn trail left in the sky amongst the clouds was unmistakable, it was as if something like a burning snake had passed through the clouds burning and etching it own silhouette within the very clouds.

This definitely caught both their attention, and alerted them of their surroundings... After noticing this Helen took out a small button shaped bag and squeezed it, making it release a slightly green but translucent liquid looking substance, once released it was designed to encompass any and all living-beings in its presence and make surrounding area a adjacent sound-proof zone.

[Captain Evans]

"What? why did you put up the Veil?"

[Helen]

"Because, we're gonna need a flight. To follow the trail..."

[Captain Evans]

"Okay...so I'll just call for a helicopter. It should be here in 5 minutes or so"

[Helen]

"No, the helicopter will take too long, and it will erase the trail with it's gust strength! I need you to fly us up there, i know bout your ability and it's an emergency... if we don't react quickly any and all traces will be wiped away by the flowing wind"

[Captain Evans]

"That's supposed to be classified not even my platoon member's know about it"

[Helen]

"They aren't supposed to know about it, but i am... and like i said it's an emergency. Otherwise i wouldn't even have asked, because i know how much of a tole it takes on you"

[Captain Evans]

"Fine. But only this time, i won't be doing this for any other emergencies you might end up with...alright?"

[Helen]

"Yes, I understand, now can we please hurry!?"

Captain Evans wasn't really fond of his ability and avoided using it as much as possible, because back when it was new to him, and he had used it.... the sightings had caused mass hysteria!

And the UNO had to take charge of the situation, because these abilities weren't supposed to be public knowledge, and in order to keep it like that the UNO had kept it under strict need to know basis...
