Chapter 21 - Chapter 21

Nearly two months had passed since Liz had left. She and Henry had talked a few times through calls and messages. He asked if he could visit her, but she urged him to move on with his life. So, he decided to give it some time. Zoe did everything she could to win him over, but without success. He appeared a couple of times in magazines with girls, but it was nothing serious. He said he had given up on love. Liz saw this and felt very sad, but she remained firm and alone.

Occasionally, she would go out to dinner with some of the partners for work, but she wasn't interested in anyone. It was strictly business. Penne always encouraged her to try dating someone. Liz mentioned a businessman friend of one of the partners who always invited her to dinner, but she said she wasn't ready yet.

At one of these dinners, there were quite a few photographers, and Liz appeared in one of the photos alongside some of the partners. Since she was always very private, this was a rare occurrence.

Henry was at his parents' house when his mother called him to show him who was in the magazine. He took a look and saw Liz at a party surrounded by many businessmen. "Could she be seeing one of those men?" he asked his mother. "Well, the article doesn't say anything about that. It just mentions some award ceremony with notable businessmen present."

"But since you're always appearing in the magazines, she probably thinks you've already forgotten about her. It's time for her to find someone who won't let her down, who will value her. She's a good girl and deserves to be very happy. But lately, you've been going out a lot, and those young women by your side just want to be in the spotlight. I hope you don't regret anything in the future."

"But she was the one who left and left me here," Henry said, annoyed.

"And why didn't you go after her? Why didn't you fight for her? You accepted defeat. You did nothing to correct your mistake. The only thing you did was hurt her. In her place, I would have done the same thing."

Henry left the room angrily and went home. He got in the shower and kept thinking about everything his mother had said.

"Could she be right? Why can't I get Liz out of my mind? What should I do?" There were so many unanswered questions.

He got dressed, called someone, and left.

Penne was at the office when suddenly the secretary announced that Mr. Henry was waiting for her. She replied that she would see him right away.

Penne asked him to come in and offered him a drink. He said coffee would be fine, and she asked the secretary to bring it. She asked him to sit down and inquired how she could help him.

"I came here to ask about Liz, about that photo in the magazine. I need to know if she's seeing any of those men who appeared in the photo. Penne, please tell me the truth."

"Henry, Liz doesn't like to talk about her personal life; she has always been very private, and you know that well. Besides, you're already going out with other women. Why should I talk about my friend?"

He interrupted her. "You know how much I love her and that I never got involved with any of those women who appear in those damn magazines. But I need to know if I still have a chance to win her back."

"I always thought you two were a perfect couple. But you manage to mess everything up and then can't fix it, correct your mistake. It's very hard to help you."

"Look, as far as I know, she wasn't seeing anyone. But this week we didn't have much time to talk. When I saw the photo, I also thought she might have listened to me and moved on. So, as soon as I know for sure, I'll call you. But why don't you call her directly?"

"Because I don't want her to think I'm spying on her. I can't hurt her anymore."

Henry told Penne that he didn't want to make Liz suffer any longer. "So if she's dating someone, I'll let her go, I'll give up for good."

"I'll be waiting for your answer." Henry said goodbye to Penne and left.
