Chereads / How I became a Catalyst / Chapter 21 - The Great Liberation

Chapter 21 - The Great Liberation

Demian embarked on a relentless mission to free every Catalyst held hostage. He visited facility after facility, breaking each one out with ease. Guards and mercenaries stood no chance against his immense power. Scenes of his battles stretched out, showcasing his mastery over his abilities. Lightning crackled from his fingertips, wind gusted at his command, and earth bent to his will. He moved with precision, incapacitating guards effortlessly and tearing down barriers with sheer force.

Years passed as he freed every last Catalyst and defeated all mercenary Catalysts. The world began anew, a day of liberation dawning with Demian's victories. Exhausted, he finally allowed himself to fall asleep.

Demian's rest was abruptly interrupted by a mysterious voice, echoing in his mind. Day after day, he heard faint notes, calling his name. He lived a normal life without using his abilities, trying to be just a regular guy. Yet, the voices persisted, haunting his every waking moment.

One day, Demian awoke in a world of pure white. He thought he was dreaming until he saw a bright light in the distance. He approached it and found a massive door labeled "The One Above All." A crystal atop the door glowed as he neared, draining his power. The door opened, and Demian cautiously stepped through.

Inside, he found a world full of life, with spirits flying around. He chased the voice through this ethereal realm, arriving at a grand castle. Within, he found a being with a tremendous aura but a frail body and wings—a spirit.

"Who are you, and why did you call me here?" Demian demanded.

The spirit, with a calm and soothing voice, said, "Take a seat."

Demian remained standing. "Tell me who you are."

"Sit down, boy," the spirit insisted. Reluctantly, Demian sat.

The spirit continued, "You have come far and exceeded my expectations, my dear boy. I am The One Above All."

"Why am I here?" Demian asked.

"Because I called you here, of course."

"That doesn't answer my question."

"Well, when you came here, you saw many spirits, didn't you, boy?" the spirit asked.

"Yes. Are they evil?"

"Oh no, my dear boy. Spirits are supposed to be good, and as you said, not dangerous. But some are very, very dangerous."

"Answer my questions, old man," Demian demanded.

"Yes, yes, coming right up. Spirits can't leave this place because I don't allow them to. I am the keeper of all spirits. I am divine, I am The One, I am the father of all spirits. But sometimes, these spirits slip through that door you just came in. They go to your world and possess your kind—humans. These spirits help fulfill your kind's desires and grant them tremendous power. I can't leave this place, you see, my boy, so I try to send good spirits into your world to defeat the evil spirit-possessed ones. But it didn't work, so I thought I'd lend a human my powers. And I chose you. When a possessed spirit dies, it finds a new host, a newborn if you would say. The longer the spirit stays, the more powerful it becomes. But you, my boy, are different. The only non-spirit being that can enter here is The One Above All. I am your father, Demian. I've been looking over you for years. When I knew you would need my powers, I lent them to you. But you didn't understand the full extent of it."

Demian's mind raced. "So, what am I?"

"You might call yourself a god, but there are evil gods, my boy. We call them God Slayers. These God Slayers have found you. They can't come here, but they can come to your world. I've called you here to warn you. Keep your friends close, and defeat these evil gods. Take your rightful place in this palace as the new God of Spirits."

Demian was shocked, unable to process the information. "Evil gods?"

"These gods see and know everything. They will torture you and break your spirit. You need to save everyone, my boy."

In Demian's mind, one face appeared—Anahit. "I have to hurry," he said.

The spirit waved his hand, and Demian was back in his room, standing. His mind was set on saving Anahit. As he resolved to act, a crack appeared on the door of the other world, hinting at the impending threat.
