Chapter 9 - Chapter 9- Trouble In The Distance

Staring at the fruit for a while, Victor contemplated his choices. As simple as this decision might seem, he knew better not to underestimate anything in this world. What might appear harmless, could be the reason for his demise, again.

'But, since the God had put me in this place. I'm going to assume this is safe to eat…' Rubbing the back of his head. Victor wasn't the type to trust people that easily being someone who knew how easily others could backstab him if he let his guard down for a moment. The God should be no difference either.

"Tsk, I hate this… If I don't eat this, I will probably not find anything else to eat." He muttered. "Not to mention that I will also question whatever things I might find in the future too."

Victor was with the idea of being cautious, but he hated being paranoid and those are two completely different things. So, he decided to simply do what he was going to do without overthinking. Whatever happens, it was perhaps a mistake, but he won't feel regretful.

Putting the fruit near his mouth, he carefully took a small bite. Immediately, his eyes widened slightly as he munched on that bite. Looking at the fruit, he was shocked.

'This is delicious…' He thought to himself. The explosion of sweetness in his mouth, and the juiciness of the fruit was simply out of this world. It tasted far better than any fruit he had ever eaten before.

'What's the name of this fruit I wonder.'

Feeling a little at ease, he continued eating the fruit with even more eagerness. His hunger was apparently very strong considering how fast he finished the fruit. After that, he wiped his mouth and looked around him.

"That's a lot better. Now… What should I do next?" He asked himself. Logically, he could've started his training right there and then. But, he quickly realized something.

'I still haven't checked the rest of the island yet. I should probably do that first.'

Looking around him, Victor could see that the island was pretty small. The seashore was visible from his current position in almost all directions.

So, with that, he walked off into the east, right behind the house he came out of. Strolling through the beautiful green plains was quite a pleasant thing to do. Especially when it's done alone. Victor enjoyed these calm times whenever he had them.

Something about being alone, doing something that didn't require any thinking or worry was quite addicting. He knew that if he let it take over him, Victor would never meet a single person in his life again.

He would just stay on this island, living alone. However, that idea, as good as it was, had its downsides. The biggest one was the fact that he wouldn't be able to experience this world as he wanted to.

He didn't know why, but he had a feeling that the moment he set foot outside of this island, he would see things that would last him a lifetime. This magical sensation was now almost a fact in his head… That was how deep it was.

Without realizing it, Victor found himself on the eastern shores of the island. Looking behind him, the house was barely a few hundred meters away. Then, his eyes shifted to the beautiful, golden sand and the blue, crystal-clear sea.

The sight was straight out of a dream, with the sun casting its beautiful rays on the water, reflecting over its clear surface. However, other than that, there was nothing else that caught his attention.

The entire island was very empty, or at least what he had seen of it so far. So, he decided to start walking across the shore to the other side and see if he noticed anything odd.

As he walked, the sound of the waves hitting the shore became the background music to his trip. As he was walking, however, his eyes caught something weird in the distance. Stopping for a second, he looked closer at it.

'... Is that a storm in the distance?' Victor's eyes squinted as he tried to identify the situation. Hundreds of kilometers away from him, he could see a faint cluster of grey clouds. However, due to the extremely far distance, he didn't know if it was a storm or if that was just some rain.

'The wind isn't changing much so I doubt that will come anywhere close from here. However…' He frowned slightly. 'That is north, isn't it? Which means… That's where I'm supposed to go.'

The island the God told him about was in the north, and that storm was clearly covering all the northern area. Or at least as far as he could see.

"Well, this might be a problem." He muttered. "Usually, sea storms last a few days or a week at most. But, I can't say if that one is the same. Not only are this world's laws different from Earth, there is also the Runic Energy in the equation. It must definitely affect the weather too in some form."

Even though Victor was a little apprehensive, he still wasn't going to leave this island yet. He had at least two weeks before he starts thinking about leaving as he couldn't simply throw himself into the unknown expecting to be lucky.

He had to be prepared as much as he could be. With that, he turned away from the storm and continued his stroll around the beach. Eventually, he reached the opposite side of the island where he found another thing the God had mentioned.

"This is the boat, huh?" Looking at the vehicle from up close, the boat was clearly an engine one. It had a white colored exterior and enough space on it for Victor to be able to move a little.

'It's surprisingly not as rusty as I expected… It shouldn't be a problem in its current state.'

Jumping on top of it, Victor inspected the interior of the cockpit. There, he found a fishing rod hanging on the wall.

"Oh, now this is a good find." He muttered as he picked up the rod and inspected it. "It's also in good condition. I can definitely use this to fish. I just need some kind of bait and it should work."

After that, he continued inspecting the boat, but there was nothing else on it so he simply hopped off and headed back to the house. The trip was rather quick, and he discovered something useful, while also recognizing a possible problem that he must deal with in the future.

All in all, it was a good decision to do this before actually focusing on anything else. Now, Victor felt safe in this place, knowing fully well nothing else was there with him. On the way, he picked up another fruit and ate. Then, he entered the house, put the rod aside, and finally walked inside the room.

Getting off his shirt, he stood in front of the mirror. What reflected was the appearance of a very scrawny kid with a malnourished body and incredibly pale skin.

'Is this how my body would've looked if I never ate and never trained?' He asked himself with a weird expression. It felt weird to see such a weird version of him. A very weak and vulnerable one.

After a few moments, he started inspecting his body, checking for anything weird. After making sure he was fine, he put his shirt on again.

"Time to get serious, I guess."
