Chapter 4 - Chapter 4- Runic Core

Victor gazed at the letter silently, trying to understand what the God was trying to convey through these mysterious words. The way he was trying to make everything sound peculiarly interesting was mildly annoying.

But, it still worked in making him curious. So, he continued reading, knowing very well that the God was aware of what Victor was thinking of.

[Since this world is far different from your previous world, I have given you a small gift to help you start. Well, in reality, it's more than one gift. But, I won't tell you anything yet. You will have to read the rest of the letter after you're done with this message. The other part of me will explain everything.]

"..." Victor found himself sucking in a deep breath to keep his calm. This God was somehow able to play on his nerves so easily even though he hadn't even met him and was only reading an old letter he left behind.

'That is weirdly impressive.' Victor thought to himself as he finally looked at the last sentence of the letter.

[In any case, I won't make this letter any longer. Everything else, you will have to discover on your own. This world is very magical, Victor. I'm sure you will grow fond of it once you truly see it with your own eyes. In the future, perhaps we might end up meeting. I will make sure to invite you for a drink then. Farewell!]

With that, the letter ended abruptly. Staring at the last sentence for a few seconds, Victor put the first page down on the table. "I didn't know Gods drink." He muttered as he finally focused on the map.

The first thing he noticed about the map was that it was huge… Unbelievably huge. It was mainly composed of three gigantic continents, many islands, and four oceans. In a sense, it had the same geographical topography as Earth, at least from what Victor could see. He was certain that it was probably far from reality, but he could only work with this information.

His eyes traced the map, going north where the supposed 'Northern Archipelago' is. There, he saw a small mark on a very small dot amongst many other small dots. It didn't take him a second to understand that this was his current location.

'... This world is really massive… I can estimate that it's at least twenty times the size of Earth or more…' He thought to himself as he rubbed his chin. 'What's that? 10 billion kilometers?'

Purely from a comparison that is based on the scale of the map, the continents, and the island he was in currently. He knew it might be far from accurate, though.

Still, that was truly an unfathomable size for a planet. Even compared to other planets in the solar system, this one would definitely be on the bigger side. Yet, surprisingly, that didn't seem to affect gravity. Victor couldn't feel any more pressure on his body than on Earth.

'Physics doesn't work here… Or probably this place has its own Physics.'

"Ok, so there are three continents, and I'm close to the northern one." Flipping the piece of paper, he couldn't see any written information about this world.

Next, Victor tried to pinpoint any interesting locations on the map. That wasn't a hard thing to do as this map was choke-full of interesting things. For instance, on the map, Victor could see multiple drawings riddling the entire map.

The drawings seemed to be of some kind of fantastical creatures. Squinting his eyes, he could see what seemed to be dragon-like monsters, sea-life abominations, and even some kind of horrifying creatures he couldn't even describe.

'I have seen some of these before… But others… Not as much…' Victor didn't know what to feel about this knowledge. But, it did certainly pick his interest. Many people back on Earth were fond of these fictional creatures.

'I'm sure many of them would be happy to hear these existed till they meet one.' He thought to himself. 'Because, from what I can see, if they can appear visibly on a map of this size then I don't even want to know how big they would be in real life.'

Even imagining it, Victor was certain these things are going to be a huge disaster if he came across one of them. He was indeed very strong, and a master of many martial arts due to his job, but he was certain none of that would be useful against things like this.

After that, he continued inspecting the map for a few minutes, noting down all the areas he felt were interesting in his head. After that, he put the map on the table and looked at the third page. The paper had a title at the top of it.

"Runic Core Formation… Runic Core?" Victor frowned. "What's that?"

[Oh, you're finally here, inspecting that map took you too long, friend.]

Victor's hands twisted the piece of paper a little before he exhaled a small breath. 'I don't have to take him seriously. I don't have to.'

[In any case, welcome to my second message, and your very first gift from me. This message is going to be your guide into forming your Runic Core. Now, the first obvious question you will have is: What is a Runic Core? And to answer that, it is simply a Core that forms within your body that uses the power of the 'Great Rune'.]

"Great Rune… Is this some kind of Magical power?" Victor rubbed the back of his head. 'I have read some fantasy books before, that does awfully sound like that.' He thought to himself.

[It is very close to what you can imagine indeed. However, there is some difference. Well, in simple terms, the Great Rune is the ultimate power in this world. There is no higher existence in that world than the Great Rune. It isn't a deity, nor a creature, and instead, it is an entity that exists everywhere, and nowhere at the same time.]

Victor took a moment to contemplate the God's explanation. This sounded far more interesting, and far more complicated than he assumed. However, he was able to remember something similar he knew of.

"I'm going to assume this is something like Fate. An ultimate power that has no corporal form and exists everywhere yet nowhere at the same time."

[it is indeed similar to fate.]

'... Should I just stop thinking and read whatever he writes? He is continuously reading my mind.'

So far, the God knew every single time Victor would stop and think, and he would answer said questions he thought of in the next sentence which felt quite weird happening many times over like that.

[However, Fate here, unlike your world, is linked to the Great Rune. In a sense, it is a higher authority than Fate itself. In any case, the Great Rune was the main cause of the formation of this world, and deep in its very core, the Great Rune created the 'Heart'. A powerful energy sphere that is responsible for this world's most important resource… 'Runic Energy'.]

"..." The more Victor read, the more he grew interested. He still had many questions even as he was still reading but he wasn't too impatient to know. Being a Hitman required him to have a composure of steel, and the patience of an Owl.

[Using that energy, creatures like you become something far greater.]
