Blinking silently, Victor looked around him, trying to understand what just happened. No matter how much he closed and opened his eyes, he could see that he was in a bedroom. The walls were yellowish with some of the painting already peeling off.
The bed he was sitting on was creaking with a few parts of it feeling loose and on the verge of breaking. The window next to him was small, with a broken wooden frame and surprisingly intact glass.
"Interesting…" Victor muttered as he slowly slid to the end of the bed to get on his feet. That was when he realized the second shocking fact.
His feet weren't reaching the ground even though he was sitting at the edge. Looking down, he noticed that his legs were looking far smaller than what he remembered. Frowning slightly, he lifted his hand and looked at it. Naturally, the hand was also smaller.
Slowly, he opened and closed it as if he was discovering something completely foreign to him. Then, he lifted his eyes and inspected the room again, only to notice a broken mirror on the other side.
So, without hesitation, he jumped off the bed and approached it. On the reflection, he saw a young man, perhaps no more than 15 years of age. He had very dark black hair and blue eyes. His skin was supposedly white, but with all the dirt on his body, Victor couldn't see that. His hair was also too long and shabby to look presentable.
Touching his face for a moment he sighed. 'Two Possibilities… Rebirth… Or a very realistic dream after death.' He thought to himself. 'I doubt this is a dream unless dreams are supposed to look this real. Not to mention the fact that I can think clearly at this moment.'
Victor had read about dreams before and he was quite knowledgeable about them. One of their main characteristics was the feeling shroud covering one's thought process when they're in a dream state. Even lucid dreams seemed to retain that inability to feel… Normal. Perhaps that was what differentiated dreams from reality.
'That leaves one single possibility. I was reborn in the body of a kid who looks oddly similar to me. No, this was probably me when I was younger. But this place…' He shifted his gaze to the room. 'I have never been here before.'
One of the few things Victor was the best at was remembering details. No matter whether it was small or big, or whether it was ten years ago or today, he remembered all of that with ease.
Then, his eyes wandered to the window as he slowly approached it. The sun's rays made him squint. But, the moment his vision cleared, the sight he was met with was surprising. A stretch of greenery went as far as he could see like a beautiful tapestry of emerald, woven by nature's gracious hands. Beautiful trees riddled the entire field, shrouding it in faint, yet alluring shadows.
Each blade of glass seemed to shimmer with vitality, reflecting the light of the sun. In the far distance, Victor could see the sea, moving peacefully under the blue sky.
The sight was so beautiful, that it took Victor a good second to actually admire it before he finally snapped out of it. "Where am I?"
That was perhaps the most important question he could think of. "Is this heaven? Probably not…" Running his hand through his hair, he looked away from the window and started walking toward the door.
But, before he opened it, he put his ear against it and listened for any sign of life outside. This was a habit he learned after working as a hitman his entire life. Being careful with every step he takes is important.
After making sure there were no sounds, he slowly twisted the knob and opened the door partially, and peeked outside while making sure not to make a sound. His eyes moved carefully, examining the exterior.
He could see a small living area with an old sofa on the left, and what seemed to be a small kitchen on the right. A wooden table was set up in the middle of the room and right on the opposite side of it was the door that led outside the house.
The entire place looked old and almost abandoned. Nothing he could see gave him the feeling that someone had lived there in the past few decades or more.
"Weird…" He muttered as he opened the door and walked out while still looking around. "Why was I brought here? And who brought me here to begin with?"
Slowly, Victor walked through the empty house, inspecting every nook and cranny of it. But, due to its small size, that didn't take too long and the things he found were basically insignificant. The entire kitchen for instance was empty with no food, old or new stored there.
The fridge was also empty but it still gave Victor important information. 'There is technology here, to a certain extent.'
Although he didn't know if he was still in his own world or if it was a different world, he had read about rebirth and transmigration before and it was indeed an interesting concept, however, he had never thought it could be real as the idea of different worlds existing contradicted science to a certain extent.
'Well, science is wrong then.' He shook his head as he turned toward the table. The reason he left it as the last one was because it was the first interesting thing he had seen since he stepped into the living room.
Approaching it, he looked at the item on the table. It was a stack of paper, yellowish in color due to aging with some of it even slowly eaten by whatever insects had their eyes on it.
Picking it up, he noticed that the stack was rather not that thick. There were 5 pieces of paper or so with some handwritten words on them. Approaching the sofa, he sat down and looked at the first piece of paper.
The surprising thing he noticed was that the words written on the paper weren't anything he had ever seen before. Due to his work, Victor had learned dozens of languages to a fluent degree and could easily identify those that he didn't fully master.
Yet, the ones in front of him were nothing he had seen before. Even then, he could still read them.
The feeling was weird. A part of his brain couldn't identify the language, while another part simply understood it as if it was his mother language that he spoke every day.
'Interesting…' He squinted. 'This is definitely not normal. Another sign that this is some kind of supernatural phenomenon. There were already plenty of signs that this was something abnormal, but this unknown language is the biggest proof so far.'
With that in mind, he focused on the content written on these papers.
[Hello Victor. I am sure you are quite confused as to what happened to you and you must have a lot of questions on your mind. But, fear not, most of your questions shall be answered in this letter. Now, a brief introduction of me… I am God.]
