Min-Su and Min-Ho witnessed the unprecedented phenomenon together. The black rain poured down relentlessly, lasting for nine hours. The sky seemed to be falling apart, as if the very fabric of reality was unraveling.
As the rain battered down on the city, news broadcasts flooded the airwaves. Scientists scrambled to research the mysterious black rain, but their findings were baffling. The rain was not toxic or acidic, as initially feared. Instead, it was discovered to be the purest mineral water, with an unexpected twist.
If the black substance failed to find a host within two minutes , it would die and transform into minerals. The scientific community was stunned, unable to explain the origins or purpose of this strange rain.
As the brothers watched, the rain continued to pour down, turning the world outside into a dark, murky abyss.
Min-Su's expression was calm as he explained to Min-Ho, "This black rain isn't just water, There is a substance in it that needs to find a host within two minutes or it will die and turn into minerals."
Min-Ho's eyes widened in alarm. "What do you mean by 'host'?"
Min-Su's voice was solemn. "A living being. If it doesn't infect someone or something, it will disintegrate. But if it does find a host..." He paused, his eyes serious. "Just an hour after this rain stops, the substance will start awakening, and its symptoms will manifest."
Min-Ho's face paled. "What kind of symptoms?"
Min-Su's jaw clenched. "At first the infected's eyes will turn red, then their nervous system will fail, and they will be attracted towards any other living beings. We need to be prepared, Min-Ho. We are going to survive this."
Min-ho is shocked from seeing how his brother has many information that even scientist are unable to figure out.
He wanted to ask the source of his information but suppress it because of the situation.
As the clock struck 6 pm, Min-Su's gaze was fixed on his brother. "Ten hours have passed since the rain started, and one hour has passed since it stopped. Get ready, Min-Ho."
Min-Ho's eyes were wide with anticipation. "For what?"
Min-Su's voice was low and serious. "You'll hear howling screams in a few seconds. It's about time the substance awakens."
As if on cue, a blood-curdling scream pierced the air, coming from the room beneath them. Min-Ho looked at Min-su with a terrified glance.
Min-su is as calm as night, Having already been through worse than this.
Without a word, they switched off the lights and cautiously approached the window, peeking through a small gap in the curtains to gaze down at the ground floor below, careful not to draw attention to themselves.
As they peered down at the ground floor, chaos erupted. Min-ho's eyes widened in horror, his face pale and sweaty. Min-su's expression remained clam, his eyes fixed intently on the scene below.
At first, only two people had transformed, but soon the number grew as they attacked and infected others. The once-peaceful residents of the building were now ravaging each other, their minds consumed by the mysterious substance.
The sound of shattering glass and crushing metal filled the air, accompanied by the eerie, inhuman groans of the infected
Min-su's expression was calm as he expected this but Min-Ho watched in horror as the infected multiplied, their groans and screams filling the air. Min-ho's heart raced as he realized the situation was spiraling out of control.
Suddenly, a terrified woman in the building across from theirs let out a blood-curdling scream. The infected heads snapped towards the sound, their attention drawn to a new Food. Like a swarm of mindless beasts, they charged towards the woman's building, smashing through doors and windows to get to her.
The woman's screams were soon joined by others, as the infection spread to her building. The sounds of chaos and terror echoed through the streets, a chilling reminder that the world was descending into madness.
Soon, these zombies entered Min-su's appartment as well.
From the ground floor to the 8th floor, screams of people can be heard.
On the fourth floor where Min-su and three other neighbours lived, everyone had turned into zombie except for Min-su and his brother.
Three hours later at 9 PM
Min-su said with a cold expression " I am going out to check the situation on our floor"
"What!? Have you gone mad or what? You know what is happening outside, right?" Min-ho whispered in a low volume, so only his brother could hear him.
Min-su took out everything he bought from the black market.
Min-ho is no longer shocked as everything was happening as if his brother knew the future.
Min-su wore the Bulletproof vest, The weight of it a reassuring pressure on his chest. He strapped the katana on his back, the leather creaking softly.
Min-su's eyes met Min-ho's, a flicker of determination in his gaze "Stop worrying, I have prepared everything" he said, his voice low and steady.
Min-ho's eyes narrowed, his brow furrowed in concern, but he nodded silently
Min-su put his ear on the door to hear if any zombie were walking nearby.
Then, he slowly Removed the planks and opened the door.
The air was heavy with the stench of blood and decay. The once-pristine corridor was now a scene of utter chaos- blood-splattered walls, shattered flower pot. The doors of the other appartments hung crookedly from their hinges, like gaping mouths screaming in terror.
Min-su's eyes scanned the corridor, his gaze lingering on the eerie silence that filled the space. The only sound was the soft rustling of the infected, their slow, laboured breathing a haunting reminder of the horrors that lurked in every corner.
There was a single zombie in corridor which is clawing on the door of apartment number 601.
Seeing the zombie, Min-ho become anxious and told his brother to get inside. But the zombie notice them started to move towards them.
It was limping, it's speed slow, but what made it dangerous was that it didn't feel any pain, and fighting against a single zombie was easy, but facing a horde of five was hell.
The zombie was one meter away when Min-su drew his katana and lunged towards it, striking it's head off with a clean swing.
Min-ho was once again amazed by his brother fighting skills.
'Hyung knows how to fight so well!' Min-ho thought to himself.
"Close the door. I'll be back in a few minutes"
And with that, Min-su started his solo survey journey of this floor.
