Chapter 18 - Boxing ring

Before hurling a bag at me, Leo opens the trunk of his car and throws it at me. "You left this in my car the last time we saw."

I was curious about what would have happened to it.

I notice Aiden working behind the desk when we walk into the gym.

He rises to his feet and begins to stroll in our way. It's been quite some time since you visited my fitness centre. How are you all doing? What happened to you?

He flashes a grin. "Come on, man. Because of our girls, we have been swamped. He gives me a back clap. "My big brother asked his best friend to marry him, and she said yes."

Aiden has a frown. So, what exactly took place between you and the supermodel? The last time I heard both of you, you were holding hands and getting ready to walk down the aisle."

I am not going to divulge my private information to anyone.

By contrast, I shrug my shoulders and remain silent. "Do you have a free boxing ring?"

That's right, you may get it until noon. After that, I have someone coming in to use it as a weapon in a contest.

In a rush, I head to the changing room and pull on my shorts. "Thank you," I say.

Once I've finished, I wait for Leo by the ring. I first place my bag on the ground to prepare myself for the ring and then perform some stretches.

I am looking at Leo as he stretches his muscles. "Are you ready, big bro?"

"Yeah," he says as he enters the ring, where a dozen other guys are standing around our ring.

An individual yells. It is Melvin Williams doing it. Why is he even in this place?

As Leo and I begin to argue, individuals pull their mobile devices out of their pockets and photograph us.

I step to the side when Leo delivers a proper punch to avoid being hit.

It is then my time to hit Leo, and he also moves away from me.

Whenever my brother and I dispute, we always begin with this.

To warm up, we throw punches at each other but move away from each other at the exact moment the strike is meant to land.

Leo and I continue to move in that manner until we are both drenched in sweat.

Following that, the battle will begin.

Both of us become aggressive when we are sparring, so people know to leave us alone when we are in the ring.

Because Leo and I enjoy competing against one another, we do not engage in violence against other people.

The most recent time I engaged in a fight with another person, I caused them to sustain a head injury and send them to the hospital because they were not prepared for the battle that I was about to give them.

When Leo looks at me, he says something. "Are you ready?"

As soon as I give a nod, we start fighting for real.

I take a blow from him, and it lands on my face right where I stand.

I taste metal in my mouth, and my head is turned to the side.

My goodness, I had forgotten entirely how powerful his right hook is.

"Are you going to tell me what's wrong, brother?"

The kick I throw at him lands on his stomach, which is booming. "I just learnt that Michelle lied to me." My punch is blocked by him when I hurl it at him.

"About what?" I am pushed away from Leo, and he kicks the back of my leg, which causes me to fall to the ground immediately after.

"She told me she was pregnant when we were twenty-one, but it turns out she stole the pregnancy test from Katherine after she pushed her down the stairs."

Leo gets a chill. "Katherine was pregnant?"

My head nods. "She lost the baby, though."

My eyes well up with tears as Leo moves away from me and steps back.

Why does this have an impact on him?

Taking a sip, he grabs his drink bottle and starts drinking. "At that time, I recall that Katherine was going through a difficult time and that Mom was there to help her. Mom left in the middle of the night, informing my father and me that she had to deal with something. Regarding Katherine, I believe that it was related to something. I am seeing Leo's gaze. When my mother believed that I was asleep, she informed my father that she needed to take Katherine to rehab. I am now aware of the reason why."

"I didn't know she was seeing anyone." It is true.

My opponent, Leo, starts punching me in the face. "There was no one she was seen with. It seemed possible that it was just a one-night stand."

That is not the kind of person that Katherine is.

I want to get to the bottom of the mystery of who the father was so that I can beat his ass for not being there for Katherine when she was going through a difficult time. However, she mentioned informing the guy about being a father before she was shoved down the stairs. I want to get to the bottom of the mystery.

Leo throws a punch at me, but it is unsuccessful since I am stepping to the side.

The punch I throw lands on his face, which is booming.

When he hits the ground, his eyes close, and he disappears.

I make my way over to him. "Leo?"

He doesn't get back to me.

"Call 911." I let out a yell.

There is a man who picks up his phone and dials 911.

As someone attends to my brother, I am forced away from the situation.

Taking out my phone, I make a call to my mother.

Mom?

The two of us were working out at the gym. During our sparring session, I delivered a decisive blow to him. Currently, he is on his way to the ambulance.

Because you and your partner continue to fight and send each other to the hospital, I am wondering how many more times I will have to go to the hospital because of your behaviour.

It's too much, but we must find a way to release the rage we've harboured.

Mom says it's not on each other. Whenever I receive a phone call similar to this one in the future, I will not go to the hospital.

She repeats this regularly, but she is the first person there when we get to the hospital.

I need to call your brother's girlfriend and tell her what occurred. I should say to her what happened. Katherine, are you going to give her a call?

No, I say!

How come not, Mom?

She will not understand. I will catch up with you once you are at the hospital.

I hung up the phone before she could proceed with the questions she had asked me.

When I see her at the hospital, I will ask her questions I have on my own. I am curious about the extent to which she is aware of Katherine's pregnancy and whether or not she is mindful of the father's identity.

The paramedics enter the gym while carrying a backboard in their hands. They move him onto the board and then place it on the gurney.

As Leo was being transported to the ambulance, I accompanied him there.

******

My mother is currently waiting at the hospital, and she comes over to talk to me. "How's your brother?"

"He's got a concussion." After taking Mom's hand, I lead us to the chairs in the room. "I didn't mean to hurt him, Mom." I embrace her. It was a dreadful incident that I witnessed today, Mom. The event took place many years ago, but it was recorded.

She disengages from the embrace and looks me in the eye when she does so. "What did you see?"

A stream of tears is streaming down my face. "When we were twenty-one, Katherine was accidentally pushed down a flight of stairs. At that moment, she was pregnant. Because of the fall, she was unable to save the baby.

I feel my mother re-embracing me in her arms. "I am aware, son. She told me.

When I contacted you to tell you that Michelle was pregnant, do you recall how I did it?

"Yes," she murmurs in a low voice.

After pushing Katherine down the steps, she took the test from her and carried it away with her. I have wiped my face. "Everything that's gone wrong in my life is because of that girl."
