Chapter 35 - Pregnancy test

I am becoming concerned since Quinn and Melvin have been absent for a considerable time.

What would have happened if Quinn had injured him in some way?

I feel Lydia's hand on my arm. According to Quinn, Melvin will not be harmed. His actions have not been harmful to my family in any way. If our family is in danger, then the rest of us are also at risk. This is something that you should be aware of about us. Our family is our top priority, and it's beginning to become clear that you are also a member of our family. We would do anything to ensure their safety. On the steps, she casts her gaze. "That's probably what Melvin is talking to Quinn about."

Since we started dating, Melvin has looked out for my best interests.

Having someone else take care of things for me is very strange. I am accustomed to taking care of myself and dealing with issues as they arise, but when it comes to Melvin, he takes things more seriously and attempts to protect me from things I am unaware of.

Regarding my life, I do not enjoy being in the dark about anything.

My personality is such that I like to confront challenges head-on; it's just the way I am. Because all the people I love and trust are keeping secrets from me, I haven't felt like myself until recently.

If they do not start communicating with me within a reasonable time, I will initiate my tracking procedure for my family to determine their feelings.

My parents do not conceal anything from me. To a large extent, it is Melvin and my brothers.

I will have an easier time keeping track of Melvin than my brothers because I know his whereabouts over the next few months. Whether it be with me or on set with the covert romantic comedy in which he plays the lead role, that is the question.

Alanie comes by and approaches me. I am curious about your thoughts on the family. Yes, they are wonderful, right?

A grin appears on my face as I look at you. "Alanie, you had a wonderful choice. We are going to have a more difficult time persuading our brothers. The fact that I am engaged to my best friend, whom they have known since we were children, is something that they hardly seem to care about.

And she laughs. "I have to tell Paul to be careful around our brothers then, but something tells me they already know that I have a boyfriend I've kept a secret from them."

I respond by looking at her. "What happened with the guy you went out with after the beach day?"

I know that Paul is listening to my conversation with Alanie despite his pretending to stare at the picture on the wall. She is looking in Paul's direction.

Her complexion becomes pale, and she gazes down at the ground. "I was trying to make Paul jealous."

Taking a stride in her direction, Paul wraps his arms around her and embraces her. Amid his words, he gazes tenderly into her eyes. "It worked, too." He kisses her cheek. "I was concerned that my life was not a suitable environment for her. As you can see, she is completely unconcerned.

When Quinn and Melvin entered the room, they laughed like best friends.

As she approaches me, Lydia whispers something to me. "Told you."

She gets kissed by Quinn, and he also remarks. "What did you tell her?"

"You weren't in a position to cause harm, Melvin. She was concerned about him.

I feel Melvin's arms encircling me fully. "I'm doing good. A couple of topics are on my mind, and I wanted to discuss them with Quinn. It is now completely resolved."

An attractive woman with blonde hair enters the room, and she looks at Quinn as she does so. "Dinner is ready, Sir." The room is left empty when she leaves.

Quinn gives us a tour of the dining room. Then, someone pours a glass of wine for each of us.

One of Lydia's hands is placed on top of the glass. "I can't have any, Quinn."

As he is ready to pour a glass of water for his brother, he suddenly stops moving. "Are you pregnant again?"

She makes a nod. When I went to the doctor today, I did find out about it. The results of a home pregnancy test revealed that I was not pregnant, even though I had been experiencing nausea and vomiting. As a result, I decided to go to our physician, and he did take some blood samples, and the results were confirmed.

He kisses her. "I love you."

"I love you, too, Quinn." Suddenly, she moves away from him. "I can't wait to expand our family from three to four."

No, I was unaware that she had a child. Not a single photograph in the living room depicted a child.

Melvin and I are the subjects of Lydia's gaze. I have removed the images of my son that are typically displayed in the living room. We also remove them when we are unaware of guests. After some time had passed, I was okay with Alanie meeting our son.

"So, it's going to take you a while before you are comfortable with us meeting him?"

She says, " Yes," as she removes stray hair from her face. "I'm going to protect my son at all costs."

That is the act that a decent mother ought to perform.

Quinn pours a glass of wine for each of us and then hands it back to us.

As he raises our glasses, Lydia holds a glass of water.

Quinn makes the toast: "To my brother for finding a wonderful woman to hang out with. You deserve nothing but the best for the future. I am going to present you with a proposition because of this.

Paul glances at his brother. "Brother, I am not going to escape the Mafia anytime soon. If something occurs to you while I am absent, I will not forget to forgive myself.

It is a sigh. "This is not the kind of life I desire for you, my younger brother. You have a very good female in this room. She is not prepared to live in this world.

While Alanie is whispering in his ear, he shakes his head in agreement.

Paul is holding Alanie's hand. She supports my decision not to leave. That being said, I was considering not going out with you, but would you kindly allow me to remain home and watch over the girls? You can injure us by going after our woman, and if the enemy sees them alone, it might be a problem for us. This is one way that they can hurt us.

They should discuss this matter privately—not in front of Melvin and me.

Lydia stares at Quinn and says, "We have visitors in attendance. It is recommended that this be discussed in privacy. You do not want to frighten Katherine, do you? She'll unlikely believe that Alanie's relationship with Paul is safe.

Although I know it is unsafe for my sister to be with him, I am not prepared to stand in the way of our love for one another. Those with whom we fall in love are beyond our control.

Following placing the meal on the table, we begin to consume it.

Apologies for bringing up the family business. He was holding out hope that his brother would stop putting his life in danger again and again.

Alanie gets to his feet. After saying, "Excuse me," she exits the room, and I hear a door close behind her as she leaves.

Before we excuse ourselves and check on Alanie, Lydia and I exchange glances until we are both satisfied.

When we reach the door, I realize that we are in the bathroom, and I hear Alanie throwing up after our arrival.

When I opened the door to the bathroom, I saw her throwing up while leaning over the toilet. To keep her hair out of her face, I move it. "Is there something you're not telling us?"

She is looking at me. "Recently, I've been experiencing a lot of sickness. It seemed to me that it was food poisoning.

Lydia gives her face a peek. "Have you told Paul?"

Alanie jerks her head violently. "I kept it a secret from him." She is looking at me. "Can you take me to the pharmacy after dinner?"

In response, Lydia walks over to a drawer and opens it. "Sure," she says. Several different pregnancy tests are located in this room. It would help if you took advantage of one. Let's meet you outdoors, shall we? Alanie receives the examination from her.

The men are having a private talk in the kitchen, and we leave the room and proceed that way. We are in the direction of the kitchen.

Lydia extends her hand, placing her finger on her lips. She pushes us into the shadows so that we can listen in on the men's conversation.

It appears that Paul is concerned about Alanie, and his brother is attempting to reassure him about the situation.

Melvin and his brothers calmly converse as he leans across the table.

I hear a powerful, masculine voice saying. "Lydia, what's up? It's okay for you to emerge from hiding.

"You, too, Kathy," explains Melvin. "I can smell your perfume."

Lydia makes a head shake motion. "I hate it when he does that."

Laughter fills the air as we enter the room.

A few minutes later, Alanie entered the dining room while holding the pregnancy test. Her face was pale as she entered the room. She collapses before she can even finish her sentence, and Paul manages to catch her just in time before her head hits the ground. "I'm..." she says as she passes out.

When I get closer to her, I notice that...
