Chapter 25 - Meal time

I am the focus of Katherine's attention. You can share the story with everyone. Please let me know what you think about it.

There are a few instances in which my mouth opens and closes.

It is about time that I show everyone that I could be better. I let Michelle drag me away from the girl I had been best friends with for the entirety of my life. My family will hate how I tell them this story, but it is about time to show them that I am not perfect.

I say this while looking at my family. On the first day of college, I assisted Katherine in collecting her belongings and bringing them to her room. Michelle, one of her roommates, was there. Michelle was initially a kind person.

Katherine comes over to a vacant seat and then sits down.

As I continue, I don't believe she wants the attention directed at her. Michelle was kind but changed her behavior after a couple of weeks. There was a time when she flirted with me and gradually revealed her feelings. "Katherine will be hurt by what I have to say next." She told me that she loved me, and I was also beginning to develop feelings for her.

Without uttering a word, Katherine turns her gaze downward to the table.

It is clear to me that I have caused her pain, and I am filled with a deep sense of regret. Around this time, Michelle and I began to distance ourselves from our friends, including Kathy. She does not appear to be content. She, along with the rest of my family, is waiting with tremendous patience for me to complete the story.

As I look over at my brother, who was just discharged from the hospital a few hours earlier, he indicates that he wants me to proceed. A couple of months into our relationship, Michelle developed an unhealthy obsession with Katherine and the prospect that she would cause us to break up. I was forced to decide between my girlfriend and my closest friend because things had reached that point.

When Katherine looks at me, I make sure she can sense the sincerity I am expressing through my eyes. "I made the wrong decision. Michelle was not the person I should have remained with throughout my trip. It should have been you who did it."

I get struck in the head by a bread roll that Grandma Alice tosses at me after she had picked it up and thrown it at me.

It's impressive how well she can shoot for an old bag. "Grandma Alice."

Putting her hand in the bread bowl is what she does. You were deserving of that. Her finger is pointing at Katherine, and she says, "I can't believe my grandson chose some tart over it." "A beautiful woman like Katherine Walker."

Katherine gives her a friendly smile. "Thanks, Grandma Alice."

She makes a mouthful. "You're welcome."

After Alice had finished her speech, the rest of my family began to yell at everyone.

Everyone is disgusted by how I dealt with Katherine.

Because of it, I even hate myself.

Suddenly, Michelle bursts out of her room and makes her way over to approach me. "Are you going to take me away? A friend of yours is acting like a jerk toward me. She is not a fan of the two of us spending time together.

Katherine would never act like that.

Who I choose to spend time with is never a concern for her. The only thing that mattered to her was what would bring joy to me.

Katherine prioritized the needs of others over her wishes.

This is all happening in Michelle's head.

Since I started dating Michelle, she has been spewing nonsense about my closest friend. She has been doing this for a long time.

I know Katherine's honesty; thus, I have never trusted a single word she has uttered.

My arms encircle Michelle as I do so. "Where do you want to go?"

Why don't we throw a party? My understanding is that a sorority is going to have a party. I am the subject of her gaze. "I do not doubt that you received an invitation from the numerous admirers you have all across campus. Although she is correct in stating that I have many fans, I received an invitation from the sorority's president because her younger sister is enrolled in the same class.

For this particular task, I am working in tandem with her sister.

I feel something hit me in the face, and when I glance down at the ground, I see another roll on the ground. "Grandma Alice," I say. I let out a yell.

She is looking at me. "It wasn't on my end, boy. For blaming me for something that I did not do, you ought to offer me an apology.

Every single person at the table, including myself, laughs.

There are times when Grandma Alice behaves in a childlike manner. Once, she told me something: The older I get, my intellect is like a child's. In such a case, I shall behave like a child while you are expected to act like an adult. In addition to that, she poked her tongue out.

This brings a smile to my face.

Grandma Alice fixes her gaze on me. "What funny, Melvin?"

Everybody is waiting for me to respond to the question that she asked.

I pour myself a glass of champagne and orange juice and drink it. "I was thinking about what you told me a couple of years ago."

She frowns. "My brain is like a tomato; you must remind me what I said."

"You told me that I had to act like an adult because I'm older now, and you get to act like a child because your mind is deteriorating."

She throws an additional roll at me. "That's rude, boy." The older woman, Grandma Alice, gets to her feet and walks over to me while using her walking stick.

As soon as she is near me, she strikes me with it.

When the old bat strikes me, Katherine is laughing at me.

Great-grandfather Frank gazes at his wife. "Alice, my darling daughter. That is enough. You have brought some common sense to the young man.

Alice is presently clinging to Katherine's seat. "Can you help me to my chair, Kathy?"

Katherine says, "Sure," then stands up and assists Grandma Alice in finding her seat.

Katherine murmurs something in her ear as she sits down and takes a seat.

What she said to Grandma Alice is something I regret not knowing.

To return to her seat, Katherine walks back. "What happened to Leo?"

When I look at Leo, I give him a nod. Both Melvin and I headed to the gym. When we got into the ring, things went a little too far, and I finally found myself in the hospital as a result.

As I lean closer to Melvin, I say, "Did you go too far with the video you saw?"

I hold on to the chair tightly. "Yes," I say as I encompass her with my arms. I will never allow myself to see you in such a state again. Simply put, I wish to shield you from harm, particularly at Michelle's hands.

It is then that she breaks into a broad smile. "I'm glad that you want to protect me now." Her expression changes as she stares at my brother.

Although I suspect Leo and Katherine are concealing something from me, I am confident they will reveal it when the time is right.

Katherine's mother pours her some champagne. "I hope you can drink a little this morning."

"I don't believe consuming this would be a good opportunity. I am still suffering from a headache that I had last night.

Turning my attention to her, I notice that she is rather pale.

Anything get more sober.

The table is bursting with an abundance of food.

In most cases, Mom surpasses herself with each brunch that she hosts.

Today's menu includes steak, salads, bacon and eggs, hash browns, burgers, bread rolls, sausages, and steak.

Katherine puts hash browns and a burger on her plate. The sauce drips onto the plate when she takes a bite of the burger. She also has some on the side of her face.

I first wipe my finger across her face to demonstrate the sauce to her. While staring at her, I put my finger in my mouth, and her mouth opened because of my appearance.
