Chapter 39 - A Conversation

The melody continued to echo through the blood-seeped dimension. But what unnerved Asher was not the man on the crucifix chained through heinous methods but the meaning behind the last lines of the melody.

'The forgotten gods in the primordial realm...' Back in the world, the entire humanity was divided based on their beliefs and their religions. One of the most abundant and probably the most powerful of them all was named 'Ancient Babylon's Glory.'

Apparently, they believed that the world was created through the efforts of a single omniscient and all-powerful being. He created rivers through the Universe that had no end, planets that were as great as the stars, and such celestial beings that were named 'Sovereigns.'

He used to scoff when he heard such religion and laugh at their faces. He always believed if such primordial beings existed, they would at least take a step forward and help the plane of existence in the great war against the Creatures of the Void.

'To think they have fallen. Just who massacred them?' Astonishment gripped his heart. Everything became as clear as the sky in front of him. Although there were some questions left in his mind, he could now somewhat deduce what was going on all this time.

'A mastermind is playing with us alike. The type seven civilizations and the type one civilizations, all of them are being played with. Now I understand what Astraeus meant by 'To defy fate.' Considering that, the main enemy of humanity is...' Asher halted his thoughts for a moment. It didn't take an idiot to understand the Fate God was the one responsible—the man from the unknown Empire of Angels.

Staring at the huge, yellowish eye that had appeared in his blood-seeping dimension. He mustered up some strength before speaking:

"Why is the Fate God after us?"

His voice echoed through, not leaving a single trace of the dimension where his voice didn't reach.

The eye blinked, and for a moment, the only thing that rang in the air was utter silence. Even the harmonious melody had halted its humming. By 'us,' he meant the plane of existence, including everyone, but not limited to the eye before him since he didn't know if that thing even existed, just like his incident in the Unknown Heavens.

Suddenly, ripples started to appear on the flowing rivers of blood that had covered the sky. The still pond of blood that drenched his feet was also experiencing the same phenomenon.

"The God of Fate. That man sure is a dangerous one."

Asher's frown deepened upon hearing the voice.

"Get to the point." His face fell into a solemn expression before the words left his mouth. His frown lightened slightly as he did so.

The eye blinked again before the voice came once again.

"The God of Fate also known as Azik, the Bane of the Ancient Demon Parade. The Devouver of Sovereigns. That man was born in the Empire of Angels as a crown prince. Ever since birth, his evil intent was reeking out. Many suggested that he should be killed on the spot, but his father refused to do so upon the wishes of his wife."

Asher raised one of his eyebrows as the voice continued with a sigh.

"Azik being Azik, when was only the age of 18 slaughtered his father and took the throne for himself. One thing to note, his father was the God of the Stars, a sovereign of the True Omnipotent God. As Azik took the throne, the cosmos felt a rumble in its depths. Several chains were spewed by the Bootes Void, in your time, it should be famous as 'The Great Nothingness'."

With another blink, the deep-shrill voice continued wistfully.

"The chains were spiritually attached to each existence, whether it was a star or a planet. Each of them were finally bound by the curse of fate."

A chill went through Asher as the voice completed its explanation. Creasing his eyebrows slightly, he heaved a satisfied sigh. In a slow motion, he tightened before speaking.

"That's good and great for all but the one thing that makes everything odd is how is this even related to me? Why am I even here? And what do the Unknown Heavens represent? And the most important question is, who the hell are you?"

A chuckle followed the silence that remained for a brief moment. The ripples in the dimension became visibly abundant. The deep-shrill voice suddenly gained its liveliness.

"It's something you should find the answers to by yourself."
