Everything needed a balance, and life too. The best example was he himself. He thought about his past struggles and especially the part where he was all alone.
Did he like it? Certainly not.
Did he want to go through that ever again? Certainly not.
Did he want to erase that past full of suffering? Certainly not.
It was what made and gave him his existence. He was Shen Yu because the past had shaped him. He treasured his wives and his bonds with them because of his past.
Shen Yu had seen people disregarding their families when they had a perfect life. It was the basis of life. If one needed to treasure something, they needed to appreciate it and understand its value.
