The wilderness was boundless and vast.
Chris stood frozen in place, his face full of confusion. A few moments ago, he was at home, happily immersed in the game world, and in the blink of an eye, he was thrown into this strange wilderness.
Just before he could fully comprehend the situation in front of him, a cold mechanical voice rang in his ears.
"[Welcome to the Doomsday Survival Game, the first 100,000 people have descended.]"
"[Next you will be introduced to the newbie guidelines.]"
"[1. This game is a flesh traversal, dying in the game will mean real death. Please cherish your life.]"
"[2. Enemies and resources have been placed in the wild, you can choose to defeat the enemies for their drops or explore the resources placed. But please note that danger and opportunity exist side by side.]"
"[3. The trading and exchange system has been opened, you can choose to exchange experiences with other players, form alliances, or intercept and loot. Here, there is no distinction between good and evil, living is the only rule."]"
"[Please explore the other functions on your own, enjoy the game!"
The icy voice ended abruptly and disappeared into Chris's ears.
Chris couldn't wait to open the system interface, and a light blue screen that only he could see appeared in front of him. Above the screen were several buttons: "Attributes", "Communication", "Manufacturing", and "Warehouse". ... Among them, the last one, the "Quest" button, was flashing brightly, as if guiding him to click on it.
Chris's attention was drawn to this button, and he clicked on it with his consciousness. The quest interface opened, and the bright light focused on the first quest.
"[Newbie Orientation Quest: A Cozy Home (0/1)]"
"[Mission Introduction: in the end times, a safe shelter is fundamental to surviving, please choose a suitable address to place your shelter as soon as possible!"]"
"[Mission Reward: Doomsday Survival Points*100]"
"[Tip: Shelters can be built above ground or underground, each with their own advantages and risks. Please choose carefully!"
Immediately afterward, the light of the system's prompt focused on the "Warehouse" button. Chris opened the warehouse according to the prompts, and there was only one item in the empty warehouse.
"[Shelter prototype: click on it to choose a location and build it automatically.]"
"[When choosing to build above ground, a 10*10 square meter single-story wooden hut will be built automatically, with very weak disaster resistance.]"
"[When choosing to build underground, a single-story basement of 101010 square meters will be automatically constructed, with weak disaster resistance.]"
Chris gently clicked on the shelter prototype, and the system interface then contracted. A green transparent square appeared in front of his eyes. As a game veteran, Chris immediately understood that the square indicated the footprint needed for the shelter.
Chris canceled the construction and began to think. If the shelter was placed on the ground, it could effectively prevent water from accumulating, but it would not be able to withstand the gusty winds. Although the future development potential was huge, the safety and security in the early stages became a problem. By choosing an underground shelter, the safety in the early stages would no longer be a concern, and it could effectively withstand disasters such as cold snaps, gales, and beast tides, but the development in the later stages might be limited.
After much deliberation, Chris finally decided to build an underground shelter. Although the underground shelter might be limited in its later development, Chris knew deep down that if he chose the above ground shelter, he might not be able to usher in the later development at all.
He found a higher hill, opened the warehouse, and clicked to use the shelter prototype. Instantly, the ground rumbled, and embedded in the center of a dirt bag was a wooden door that opened upward. Chris reaches out and pulls the wooden door open, and a creaking sound reveals a rough wooden staircase that swings downward.
Chris followed the steps down, there was no lighting in the shelter, and by the faint light coming through the hole, he could barely make out the interior. Just as the system had introduced, the shelter was ten meters in length, width and height, the walls and floor were covered with rough wooden boards, it was empty and there was nothing.
"[Congratulations to the host for completing the mission: a cozy home (1/1)]"
"[Receive reward: Survival Points*100]"
The system beep suddenly sounded, and Chris was slightly confused. What were Survival Points? He quickly opened the system to check.
"[Survival Points: obtained by completing quests as well as daily settlements. You can use the points to manufacture instead of any material, or evolve the items you have]"
Manufacture? Evolve items? With curiosity, Chris clicked the "Manufacture" button on the system panel, and instantly, dozens of pages of manufacturable items appeared in front of him. From basic torches, stone axes and pickaxes to sophisticated nuclear power stations and fission mining machines, as long as one had the necessary materials and survival points, these items could all be manufactured!
An inexplicable sense of anticipation surged in Chris' heart, the uncertainty and infinite possibilities of the future made him both nervous and excited. This, would be an unprecedented survival challenge.
