Chapter 65 - Super Hearing

Monica needed both oral medication and an IV drip. After taking the medication, Monica's condition stabilized. Although it was pneumonia, she should recover after a few days of treatment.

Sylas suddenly thought of the Healing ability. This ability was exclusive to Sirena, and after sharing it with her, Sirena could utilize its full effects. Sylas shared the ability directly.

Sirena let out a surprised "Ah!" She was astonished as she suddenly received the power. Sylas smiled and said, "As my slave, I can grant you a portion of my power. You can now use the Healing ability on Monica."

The Healing ability was effective for disease recovery as well. Although the Healing ability wasn't particularly strong, its wide range of effects made it useful in many aspects.

"Okay," Sirena quickly agreed, already knowing the effects of the Healing ability. She then used the Healing ability on Monica. The usage of the ability didn't produce any visual or sound effects; a silent ripple fell onto Monica.

The Healing ability began to take effect. "This ability, called Healing, can accelerate recovery and is also effective for diseases," Sylas explained.

Hearing this, Gina was extremely grateful. "Watch over your family yourselves; I have other matters to attend to," Sylas said, then left. He still had two more tasks to complete today and was on a tight schedule.

He planned to complete his daily tasks and collect the rewards first. However, before saving someone, Sylas decided to modify a spaceship. Previously, Sylas had obtained a new ability, Modification, from Gina.

Although this ability has no combat capabilities, its supportive effects are undoubtedly powerful. First, Sylas decided to build a spaceship as a test.

Sylas took out his surfboard and flew out of the community. Not far from the community was an abandoned construction site with plenty of building materials. Previously, Sylas had no use for these materials, but now, with the modification ability, everything had changed.

Sylas landed on the construction site. As soon as a zombie heard the noise, it came out immediately. With a flick of his wrist, three scalpels flew out. Under the influence of telekinesis, the scalpels pierced through the heads of several zombies before flying back to Sylas.

The scalpels shook off the blood and were then returned to the dimensional space. These scalpels were taken from a hospital and, controlled by telekinesis, were quite handy for killing zombies. However, due to their sharpness, they weren't very durable and could only be used temporarily. Sylas knew he would need to craft more suitable weapons in the future.

After clearing out a few zombies, Sylas recovered all the building materials from the construction site into his dimensional space, leaving only a portion of the steel behind. The quality of this steel was just average but sufficient for his needs.

Sylas grabbed the steel, and with the activation of his modification ability, the steel gradually began to change shape. In his hands, an iron ship started to take form.

This iron ship had railings on both sides and seating in the middle for a total of twenty-one people. Aside from Sylas himself, it could transport twenty people, though they couldn't be too heavy.

The iron ship wasn't very heavy, so its defense wasn't high, but it was adequate for transporting people.

This was Sylas's first time using the modification ability to create a finished product in a meaningful way. He began to appreciate the true value of this ability, realizing its immense potential.

Sylas boarded the ship and controlled it to take off. The iron ship weighed around three hundred pounds, making it relatively easy for him to handle. Of course, it was easier now because there were no passengers. Once twenty people boarded, the mental energy required to control it would be much greater.

Sylas steered the ship toward the survivors he had located earlier. These survivors had been waiting for hours, and their hope was fading as Sylas hadn't returned yet. They began to doubt if he would ever come back.

Just as they were about to give up hope, they saw the iron ship approaching from afar. Sylas was seated at the bow. Their hope was reignited, but no one dared to speak loudly, fearing it would attract zombies.

Sylas smoothly picked up twenty people with the iron ship. The remaining survivors had to continue waiting. However, this time, they weren't worried or despairing. They knew Sylas would come back.

Sure enough, Sylas returned in just twenty minutes. In fact, the speed was affected because he was carrying so many people; otherwise, he could have made the trip even faster.

Transporting twenty people at a time, the mission to move a hundred people was quickly accomplished. The moment the mission was completed, Sylas received his reward. This time, the reward was super hearing.

The effects of super hearing left Sylas in shock. Previously, he thought super hearing would merely enhance his hearing, making it better. However, once he acquired super hearing, he realized it was much more than that.

Super hearing didn't just superficially improve his hearing; it evolved Sylas's auditory system. To give a good example, it was like Sylas now had the abilities of Daredevil. Daredevil, a blind man, possessed super hearing and could use sound waves to perceive his surroundings. This ability allowed Daredevil to understand his environment even better than a normal person.

With super hearing, Sylas gained this ability. He could hear sounds within a ten-kilometer radius. Of course, ten kilometers was the maximum range, and the farther the distance, the fainter the sounds he could hear.

Sylas could hear the movement of zombies ten kilometers away, but the sound was very faint. If the distance was reduced to within three kilometers, he could hear the footsteps of zombies and determine their number. At a range of one kilometer, he could clearly hear whispers.

Looking at the nearby buildings, Sylas could hear the sounds of zombies inside and the heartbeats of the living. Zombies also had heartbeats, but they were very slow. Sylas could easily distinguish between the heartbeats of zombies and those of the living.

This ability was a huge surprise for Sylas. Super hearing endowed him with powerful reconnaissance capabilities. If Sylas had possessed super hearing earlier, he would have immediately detected actions like Floyd's gunfire.

Then he could dodge the bullet attack. Next time someone tries to ambush Sylas, he will know immediately. Unless that person can completely silence all the sounds they make, Sylas will hear them as soon as they get close.

Sylas exhaled, a smile spreading across his face. The system-issued task rewards never disappoint. Although super hearing isn't an ability and can't be upgraded, Sylas was far from disappointed. This reward was incredibly useful.

Even though the mission was completed, there were still many survivors. Since he had promised to help them, Sylas wouldn't go back on his word. He made two more trips, bringing all the remaining survivors back.

All the rescued survivors were registered and arranged. For now, they didn't need to do anything but listen and follow instructions. Sylas could feed them with his grain supplies. When the time came for Sylas to leave, he would take the obedient and useful ones with him. The disobedient and useless ones would be left behind.

Sylas delegated these chores to Clarissa. She had never given Sylas any trouble in this regard, proving herself to be an invaluable helper. She managed the camp during the day and helped Sylas relax at night. Sylas was quite satisfied with her.

After doing so much, the entire morning had passed. Sylas hastily ate lunch in the villa and then immediately set out again. After all, there was a second mission waiting to be completed. Missions like rescuing people needed to be done quickly; the longer it took, the more dangerous it became for those doctors who could die at any moment.

Before leaving, Sylas asked Sirena for the doctors' home addresses. Unfortunately, the hospital didn't have a residential area for the doctors' families, so Sylas's idea of going directly to their quarters was thwarted. However, Sirena did know the home address of Dr. Eloise.

Whether Dr. Eloise was still at home or even alive was uncertain. Sylas decided to note down Dr. Eloise's address and check it out if it was on the way. If it wasn't convenient, there was nothing he could do.

After getting Dr. Eloise's address, Sylas didn't waste any time. He quickly took out his surfboard and flew away on it. Telekinesis was incredibly useful for this. Without it, rescuing people in the city would have been much more troublesome for Sylas.

While flying, Sylas kept half of his attention on the surroundings to avoid being ambushed again. Despite his considerable combat strength, there were still many ways to kill him, such as with a sniper rifle or a heavy machine gun. Previously, Sylas had deflected Floyd's handgun bullets, but a single shot from a sniper rifle could have killed him.

Now, however, ambushing Sylas was almost impossible due to his super hearing. He could hear the enemy before they attacked, allowing him to avoid getting ambushed.

Super hearing did have its drawbacks—it was overly sensitive to sounds. Along the way, Sylas heard many screams. As a person with feelings, Sylas wanted to help. But as one individual with limited capabilities, he couldn't save everyone. So he had to harden his heart and mentally apologize to those he couldn't save.
