Somewhere on isolated and peaceful place, to far from any area you can supposedly call (the spot where the main events line is, where the all important things around happens), we visit a place that is so far in backstage of world event, that nearly nothing important happens here. Heck, even the Inn is just a mess of stone, wood, clay and hay with some poor excuses for a windows. Somebody will dare to call it an architectural crime. To spice the flavor of this experience, this messy place is ironically called a (hog's warts) because it was similar sore for eyes. Its one thing, that wild boar or other type of pig will hardly win any beauty contest. But calling it a warts of this animal is like declaring, that you give up on the dream, that this place will ever look any better that this. Anyway, it was a place for adventurers and travelers, to rest and eat, before they hit the road again. (Willingly.)
It also happens, that a duo a Mages met today outside the Inn for the first time. One of them resemble pale skin adult elf male in light and warm color clothing, with blonde hairs, but burning-flame-orange eyes, as if his stare was capable to set other things on fire. The other was this maybe elderly looking male with blueish color of skin from infusing himself deeply with magic, a dark and cold color clothing tried to hide most of its skin, but the blue-white eye pupils nearly shine with magic overflowing I his body.
At first, those two were like on the edge of an epic battle, because they were visually total opposites, comparing a sun and night, light and darkness, or the direct opposite hidden in skin of other. Starting at each other, with a tension before street duel of unknown magnitude, both were waiting for the other to do the first move. (...and biggest mistake of its life.) Because they were skilled enough, with a tons of life experience hidden behind face expression; they see through opponent appearance to realize, that the other is not what they supposedly portrait themselves to be at the first glance.
But… no one make the first move...
So, those two are now sitting at the same table inside that inn. What seemed to be a disguise for regular adventures, for them was more like an aesthetic choice in appearance. Like opening a wardrobe and deciding of what clothing or makeup will someone wear for today event. As they chat, they found that even if they have different opinion on too many thing, they enjoy a company of other (expert) in magic art, who had its own point of view. While there is a usual tavern commotion around them, they discuss the strangest things they have experienced during their careers with magic.
.
At some point, the blonde bark at the black haired rising its nose in disbelief of what he heard. "What did you done?! Did I hear you right?! Or, should I ask you, if the brain in yours head, is working properly? For example, if the supposed wheels of sanity in that brain machine of yours, are on correct place and turning whiteout an error like in a mechanic clocks? Or is this a result of the curse of senility, who failing for too long to claim your life?"
The elder in dark colors give the pale one a stare as if a young, talented student skipped a few pages in a study book, and now had the daring to act like if the student know better that the teacher. "What don't you like about that? I simply combined a nice array of spells and techniques, to enchanted that wolf corpse as if it were a golem, transforming it into a perfect guardian for abandoned place. To make it more believable, I made it look more menacing, alive and dead at the same time."
.
However the blonde wrinkled his eyebrows as if the black head was missing the point. "Are you really normal? You said a while ago, that this creature was partially eaten by other wolves."
But the other stay faithful to his idea. "Hey. It's purpose was to scare all the simpleminded looters away from that damned place. As a guard entity, it's a good choice. It worked perfectly even on those greedy bandits. It's independent, durable and won't go down easily against uneducated opportunists that have no right to be there."
.
Elf shake his head as if he wanted to face palm himself but prevent himself from doing it. "The place is practically a graveyard. You didn't stop yourself for a moment to think, that with so many spells combined together, to turn that beast into a flesh construct, something might eventually go wrong?"
Elder explained his view in detail. "What could possibly go wrong? I removed the organic issue by turning it into a practical version of a stone golem, but still to keep some of the capability from transformed original. I set its perimeter to that location exclusively, to always follow a simple set of instruction. Whats more, I make it so, it will not like a direct sun light. To warn any wanderers and uninvited quests, I placed warning symbols at the entrances and on the pillars. So that anyone with at least a modicum of skill in golem magic and basic in magical arts in general, can formulate a command to stop, so that guardian doesn't attack. What else you except from an unnamed trap against thief."
.
Blonde roll around its eyes as a passive-aggressive response to an undesirable situation or person.
Black haired dint react on that reaction as he continued with his vision. "I am not the person, who will share its knowledge to those who are not worthy it. To prove my intention, I even left a detailed manual on how it all works. I went so far, as to put a de-activating spell like formula directly into this type of golem creation process. Just use this safe line and the wolf will crumble to dust. Even a beginner could do it. Don't worry, all possibilities I was able to though out, are all secured. I went so far that even that book is also very durable, with will on its own, to spread the knowledge to those who are at last somehow worthy. To teach them how it work, if it will detect that somewhere are active golems of this type."
.
But the blonde sighed deeply. "Hey Nekro, in the short time I've known you, I've realized that you have a very skewed idea of what is easy and what is for a beginners. You practically created a new thread of magical art, possible entire branch. I'm guessing that you left your teachings there, without any written warning on the front cover, or first page. So it's practically doomed to spiral into a hell. If you dint explain me the meaning behind, even I will be hasty in judgment to say, that is work of pure evil and despite of life. The simpletons will don't dare to give it a heavy though, before taking torches into a hand. I'm not at all surprised that you've gone on a journey to other worlds."
"Really Anatarar, aren't you the same way?" Elder was quickly corrected by the blonde, that the elf name is spelling without the last ar. But the dark skinned mage continued without correcting itself. "You don't mean to tell me that those amplifiers of yours... What did you call them?... Rings of power?... Don't tell me, they're completely harmless. You had your own school, students who they produced those toys in abundance and despite that, you decided that you are bored. You yourself dusted out there, when it wasn't what you were looking for. To look legit, you left your best student…" Elder tried to spell that name correctly: "Saura?… Sauro?… Saurora?…" Until the elf correct him that the last ra shall be n, and complain that naming ability is not a strong side of his companion on this table. So, the blue guy waved his hand in (I don't care) gesture. "You left him to manage it there on its own behalf, quite well knowing that when realizing that you are not going back, he will be tempted to try more advanced stuff to put on those rings, on witch he was not ready. You practical pushed over the box with all of yours toys to trow them out to the world, whit no care of who will pick them, or what they will do to them. What will happen if he mess around combining thing?"
.
Blonde elf protested that the other one making claims out of context. "Hey, hey! That's all pure speculation. Discipline is the number one lesson when it comes to magic art, especially magical items. If someone doesn't respect it or is outright sloppy, it's their own fault."
"You took the words right out of my mouth. If they're stupid enough to mess it up, it's their fault. On other hand; if a gifted apprentice with potential takes it into his hands, so be it."
.
Pale guy sighed, relaxing a little. "I guess you're right. I've been without apprentices for so long that I tend to forget."
"I believe so. Actually... When you mentioned it, I felt a little sad too. But traveling really limits such possibilities. And settling down somewhere alone and repeating the same thing over and over again is not my style."
.
"Hey, I just thought of something enterprising that will shock this undeveloped world. Nekro, how about doing something together right in this backwater of nowhere? We each have a different specialization, a different point of view, so we wouldn't be so bored for while, if we created something new for both of us. We could recruit new faces that would took over from us if we decided to (move on)."
"Recruiting, you say? How long you wandering this world? It so much lacking on the needed talents, that to raise those worth ones, we shall take a students, and tutoring them for generations. Its like creating, breeding and improve entire clans by ourselves. Wa~ait..." Then he start to think very deeply. "Even then, there is this issue of not committing itself fully and when they finally are somehow good, they are already at the end of their life span. If we want to have any impact, we shall go big, with a lots of lots students. Only then, the snowball effect will take place, to get the necessary pool of the right quality of talents to work with."
.
"So, you saying that we shall turn this place of no importance into nation of mages, where magic is a matter of course, turning magic arts into common knowledge even for regulars. By treating it in this way, creating a dedicated place, that focus on intensive teaching of not just selected type of magic arts, but all of them for long days and years, just to speed it up." He look at ceiling as if it try to realistically imagine what they need to pull it up. "Dude, that's an entire city of logistic to back it up. Also there shall be some universal concept for a tool that will help to bridge the differences in skills and talent. Something obviously simple."
"Its clear that if we try it to do solo this idea, alone, without the other one, each of us will fall into our comfort zone. Eventually, we will ended in what we had doing before, once again leaving everything behind, to turn the book on a new page."
.
"True, true… To boost the motivation to learn a magic arts, we will need to implement a lot of everyday practice usage, not just occasional usage for a special moment. Only then the city will got a necessary support to be a travel destination for the entire region, eventually nation, or a world. But what will we call ourselves anyway? Necro?"
"A moment ago you accused me of not be good on names and now just drooping the most important task on me? Whatever! Hmm… Anatar, this place is ironically called a (hog's warts) Right?... So let's turn that sarcastic joke of a name into a significant name for this whole world."
.
"I was referring to the region, but you want to build it on (this nowhere), from bottom up?… I am in!... But remember, that we will need a loot of space. Except, if it take too much time to travel from one place to another, they shall lost motivation. On other hand, if they really on magic too much, and don't wonder or wander, they will lost the touch to the world and ends repeating themselves with no sense for curiosity to explore new possibilities. We need that this will work even without or interaction."
"I got exactly what you means. Anyway, I used to warp the space to create a secret room and places. The touch is to make it having a feel, that it was always there, in plain sight, everybody on eyes. With my technique and yours aesthetic, we can observe in witch direction this romance experiment will evolve."
They both smiled rascally whit conspiratorially glare and looked forward to new collaborations, discoveries and fun in the field of magic.
