Synopsis
A rewrite/retelling of my old novel. Since the beginning of life and the gift of magic brought unto the humans by the Olympian God Prometheus, conflict has always been the downfall of humanity. For centuries, however, one man has always been the enemy of all: The Dark Wizard. Powered by his family's strong history against the Wizard and the prophecy left behind from long ago, Akio Phoenix, a Shining General and user of fire magic, takes upon himself the burden of finishing the Phoenix legacy and ridding the world of this force of nature.

Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 - Vision

I open my eyes, seeing destruction all around me. No vegetation or life is found within sight, as volcanoes erupt and magma spews out of the cracks in the ground, causing unstoppable earthquakes and imbalance.

Feeling odd, I look down at my hands, which are enveloped fully by raging flames, releasing their true power. They burn my body, but I don't feel pain. Instead.. I feel an odd warmth. I feel happy.. satisfied. Powerful.

- "Phoenix!"

A scream jolts my eyes upwards, seeing light purple tentacles and a devilish aura charging at me. I jump forward, charging at the source of the bright light, as everything blacks out.

- "..ey.."

"..io.."

"Are...right?"

"Akio!"

I open my eyes to see a man with light gray hair on top of me, slapping me awake.

- "Ow."

- "You idiot! What the hell happened? You blacked out for a moment."

- "Ahh. I see. Sorry, Genkei."

Genkei, my cousin, helps me up, as I regain my senses.

- "Wait.. what time is it?"

- "It's still early. go, get ready and put some water on your face. It'll help."

---

Akio Phoenix, a nineteen-year old fire magic user, who's about to succeed his father as the Shining General of Fire and Commander of the Allied Hellenic Democracy's army.

Genkei Habuki, Akio's older cousin and a master of wind magic. He's the Shining General of Wind and Captain of the AGD's army, and he's also Akio's rival. Even so, he doesn't like to use his magic alone in battle and instead uses it to make himself stronger.

Akio leaves to get ready for the succession ceremony, as his black hair turns orange, signifying the flow of magic energy through his body. He goes home, finding his mother, Akiko, cleaning up.

- "Hey, mom!"

- "Ah, Akio. Where were you?"

Akiko hugs her firstborn tightly, as the child hugs her back.

- "I was with Genkei. Where's Hisako?"

- "She's still at school. She told me she'd help with closing for today, but she won't be late for the ceremony."

- "Alright. What about dad?"

...

Silence. Akio's gotten used to it. After all, his mother is a bit depressed due to the situation with Akio's father, Atlas Phoenix.

- "..He's at the Shining Generals' Headquarters, getting ready for the ceremony."

---

I notice my mother's solemn look, knowing the truth of the pain behind her eyes.

- "Alright. Thanks, mom."

I hug her again, attempting to ease her pain. Afterwards, I go up to my room, changing into the outfit that I chose as a new Shining General. I put on the bodysuit at the most basic layer, as I wear skin-tight black and orange gloves and a cloak above with the symbol of a Phoenix in the back.

Before I leave, I look to my nightstand, at a photograph. I go and pick it up, seeing a younger me and my father smiling, with his staff beside him. Such good times.. before all this.

A tear falls from my right eye as I leave, putting down the photograph. I check the time, seeing that only five minutes have passed.

"Mom! I'm going to Jack for now. You should get ready for the ceremony too, alright?"

- "Alright, Akio. I love you, have a safe trip!"

- "Thanks, mom!"

As I descend the stairs and leave my home, I wave my mom goodbye and start heading to the house of Jack, my best friend. I walk down the road, taking in the fresh air for the last time, as I'm a few hours away from the start of the rest of my life.

I take in the nature that I didn't appreciate before, seeing flashbacks of my battles with Genkei and Jack. Even in a friendly setting, we didn't really hold back -after all, what good is training if you don't use your full power?-.

After a while, I stop at the city park. I don't feel tired, but it feels proper. I sit at the center, surrounded by beautiful olive and cherry blossom trees. The sight of the vegetation gives me a feeling of peace that it hadn't all this time. Could it be because of that vision..?

- "And here I am, thinking you'd stop by my place."

I look behind me, seeing the tall muscular man with lightning blue hair and eyes resting his back in a cherry blossom tree, as he walks towards me.

- "You're a General already, so you have already forgotten how it feels to take in the nature as a normal citizen."

Jack vaults over the bench I was sitting at, sitting right beside me.

- "I was appointed General just a few months ago, man. Cut me some slack. Besides, for one thing our generation is abnormal and that is even more true for you."

- "Yeah, I know."

- "So.. what's up with this? I don't recall you ever wanting to appreciate nature. You usually train your ass off with Genkei or me, if not spending time with your father or Aoi."

- "Maybe it's because I'm constantly fighting, tearing myself apart in the name of evolution.. but I want to take a step back and appreciate the world around me for once."

---

Jack looks a bit surprised at Akio's statement. After all, he's the brawn and Jack is the brain. However, he laughs, punching Akio in the shoulder playfully.

- "You're a funny bastard. However, I can't disagree with you."

Before continuing, Jack takes a deep breath.

"We're extraordinary, you and I. Hell, this generation of Generals. Normally we'd need half a decade more to take upon us these roles. But the responsibility you bear, at such a young age.. it's something that nobody would be able to handle..."

...

"Except for you."

Akio raises his head to look at Jack. Whilst looking solemn at first, prompting Jack to question his statement, Akio laughs and hits Jack's chest.

- "You got a way with words. Hey, we're better than our folks. What can we do? We just need to carry through with the task at hand and finish it all.. once and for all."

- "Yeah.. right."

Some time passes, with the best friends bantering on and on.

"Say, Akio... What's going on with your magic? You able to get a hold on the power your dad has?"

- "No, not yet. Every time I think I grasp it, it escapes my reach again and again. Even so, that is all the more better for me. I want this journey to be hard."

- "Hey, be careful what you wish for. After all, we could be the ones to carry out the prophecy."

- "And I hope that we are the ones. It's as you said. Our potential is unrivaled. We've risen beyond the ranks. And besides, the Dark Wizard could be planning anything as we speak. Better be safe than sorry, right?"

- "Right."

Suddenly, Jack's wristwatch starts ringing and a woman appears, yelling at him.

- [Hey, Jack! I'm guessing you're with Akio.. you're gonna be late for the ceremony!]

-"Why.. what time is it?"

Jack checks the time, seeing that it's ten minutes before the succession ceremony.. centered around Akio.

"Got it, mom. We'll see you there!"

  1. The Allied Hellenic Democracy formed after a few battles with the Dark Wizard, where countries from the eastern part of the world (such as Japan) migrated to these lands and their population merged with the already settled populus, which in this case is Greece. People still call it Hellas/Greece for ease.
  2. I'll be giving a better explanation of the suit here:
The limbs are very dark gray, as the torso is all-black, with orange outlines around Akio's chest and abs. The gloves are black, but with orange outlines on his palms. Akio also wears black boots without any secondary color. The cloak is black, with the Phoenix symbol consisting of a white circle and an orange Phoenix flying inside it.
