Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: A Simple Day on the Water

You clench your fists, keeping your face impassive. "Is that so?" You say, buying time to think.

"Yes, we've been expecting you," Nick continues, his voice cold and business-like. Nick's voice cuts through the peaceful atmosphere like a knife. "After you eliminated two of my crew members, I knew you'd come for me eventually. But I didn't think you'd be so foolish as to walk right into my trap."

Your heart races, your mind working furiously to come up with a plan. You glance around the boat, assessing your options. The other passengers have tensed up, sensing the danger. You spot a few of them subtly reaching for their own weapons.

"You see, Tommy." Nick's voice drips with malice as he continues, "I knew you wouldn't resist the temptation to eliminate me and take control of my operation. So I set a trap, and here you are, right where I wanted you." He gestures at the other passengers with his gun, "My associates are ready to take you down, and there's nothing you can do to stop it."

Your pulse quickens, and your grip tightens on your weapon. You know you're outnumbered, but you're not about to go down without a fight. As the cold metal of the gun presses against your temple, you can't help but regret your impulsive decision to walk right into Nick Kong's trap. You had been so consumed by your desire for power and control that you overlooked the possibility of a carefully laid ambush. The weight of your mistake settles heavily upon you, but there's no time to dwell on it now. You need to think fast and act even faster if you want to survive this encounter. Just as you resign yourself to the inevitable, a sudden jolt rocks the boat, sending Nick and the other passengers stumbling. In the chaos, you manage to wrench yourself free from Nick's grasp and grab your gun from its hiding place. Shouting and screaming fill the air as people scramble to regain their balance.

Taking advantage of the confusion, you quickly assess your surroundings. Your eyes land on a massive cargo ship bearing down on the Tropic boat, its horn blaring. The boat is tossed about like a toy in the waves created by the approaching ship, threatening to capsize any moment. Panic sets in among the passengers, and they scramble to find something to hold onto. Seizing the opportunity, you grab Nick by his collar and yank him towards you, pinning him against the railing. His eyes widen in surprise, but you don't give him a chance to react. You press the muzzle of your gun against his temple, your voice low and menacing."You made a grave mistake, Nick."

His eyes flick to yours, a mix of fear and defiance reflected in their depths. Before he can utter a word, the Tropic boat slams against the cargo ship, sending everyone sprawling. The impact knocks the wind out of you, but you hold onto your grip on Nick, using the chaos to your advantage. The boat groans and creaks as it collides with the cargo ship, splintering wood and twisting metal. Passengers scream and cry out, some tossed overboard, their panicked cries swallowed by the waves.

With a surge of adrenaline, you push Nick towards the edge of the boat, the cold water beckoning below. He struggles against you, but you're fueled by determination and the desire to survive. The cargo ship's hull looms large above you, a colossal wall of steel and rust. The waves crash against the smaller Tropic boat, threatening to send you both overboard. You can taste the salt in the air, mingled with the acrid scent of fear and the metallic tang of blood on your lips corner.

As the boat threatens to break apart beneath you, Nick wriggles free from your grasp and makes a desperate dive for a nearby motorboat. You hesitate for a moment, torn between pursuing him and saving yourself from the sinking Tropic boat.

You make a split-second decision and lunge for a nearby motorboat, snatching the keys from the terrified driver's hand. They struggle, but you shove them aside, your eyes never leaving the water. The boat's engine roars to life, and you steer it away from the chaos, scanning the waves for any sign of Nick.

The sea is rough, tossing the motorboat about like a toy. Your knuckles are white on the wheel as you strain to keep it steady, your gaze flicking between the churning water and the distant form of the cargo ship. The Tropic boat is nowhere to be seen, swallowed by the sea and the chaos. You clench your jaw, anger and frustration boiling over.

You spot Nick's motorboat not far from yours, and he seems to be making his way towards Ocean Beach. You grit your teeth, your fingers tightening around the wheel as you follow him, the boat cutting through the waves with ease. Anger and determination surge through you, driving you forward like a storm.

The sea is unforgiving as you pursue Nick, your boat's engine growling ominously. You glance at the horizon, the sun sinking lower, casting long shadows over the water. You narrow your eyes, focusing on the receding figure of Nick's motorboat. You grip the wheel tightly, feeling the cold metal press into your skin. Anger courses through your veins, your fingers twitching with the urge to pull the trigger. You take a deep breath, steadying your aim. You squeeze the triggers of both handguns, the shots ringing out in the salty air.

Your bullets tear through the distance, hitting the motorboat with a series of metallic thuds. As your bullets find their mark, the motorboat's engine sputters and releases a plume of white smoke, billowing into the air like a signal flag. Nick frantically tries to maneuver his burning vessel, attempting to evade your relentless hail of gunfire. However, his efforts are in vain.

The once pristine white smoke now begins to darken, streaks of black weaving through the cloud as the boat's engine belches out thick, ominous fumes. The motorboat's paint job becomes scorched and charred as the black smoke envelops it, obscuring your view of Nick. You don't relent, your fingers tightening around the triggers, your vision tinged red with anger. The boat lists to one side, flames flickering from the engine compartment, licking at the fiberglass hull.

A fiery explosion rips through the doomed motorboat, shattering the deafening silence. The blast illuminates the surrounding sea, casting a sickly orange glow over the churning waves. As the smoke and debris clear, the full extent of the damage becomes apparent. The motorboat lies in ruins, a smoking hulk of melted fiberglass and twisted metal. The sea around it is painted a sickly orange, littered with debris and burning fuel. Your heart races, and your breath comes in short, sharp gasps as the reality of your actions sinks in. Amidst the wreckage, you catch a glimpse of something that chills you to the core: Nick's charred and unrecognizable body, still clinging to the remnants of the boat. His charred and disfigured form is almost unrecognizable, with shreds of clothing barely hanging onto his lifeless frame. The smell of burnt flesh fills your nostrils, a gut-wrenching reminder of the brutality of the situation.

You feel a surge of conflicting emotions: relief, guilt, and a sense of cold finality. The man who threatened you is now gone, consumed by the very flames he had tried to escape. You take a moment to process the gravity of what just transpired, your heart pounding in your chest like a drum. The waves gently lap at the edges of the ruined boat, a cruel mockery of the serenity that once was.

With a deep breath, you turn your motorboat away from the scene and head back towards Ocean Beach, your thoughts swirling like a tempest. As you navigate the choppy waters, the wind stinging your face, you can't help but wonder if your actions were justified. True, Nick Kong was a dangerous man, but was eliminating him the only way to secure your position in Vice City's underworld? The weight of your decision settles heavily on your shoulders, a burden you'll have to carry for the rest of your life.

The sun has almost disappeared below the horizon, and a chill settles over the sea as the sky darkens.
