Chapter 6 - Chapter 5 - Storage ring

As Alex's fingers grazed the boar's belly, a strange warmth enveloped him, spreading through his veins like liquid fire. The poison, instead of harming him, seemed to merge with his very essence, its dark energy intermingling with his own. He felt an unprecedented surge of strength, an almost supernatural vigor that left him both amazed and bewildered. Evan and Jarek exchanged wide-eyed, incredulous glances.

"How did you do that?" Evan asked, his voice tinged with awe and a hint of fear.

Alex could only shake his head, still trying to comprehend what had just happened. "I don't know," he replied honestly, his voice barely above a whisper.

But the surprises didn't end there. As Alex sliced open the boar's belly, expecting to find nothing more than entrails, he instead uncovered something extraordinary. Nestled within was a round stone, slightly larger than his palm, pulsating with a faint, otherworldly glow. Beside it lay an unidentifiable plant, its leaves shimmering with an ethereal light. Evan and Jarek leaned in closer, their curiosity now fully piqued.

"What's this worth?" they wondered aloud, their eyes reflecting the stone's eerie light.

Alex held the stone, feeling its latent energy thrumming against his skin. Yet, despite the palpable power, when he attempted to absorb it, nothing happened. It was as if the stone was guarding its secrets, waiting for the right moment or person. "It's valuable," he declared, his eyes narrowing with determination. "I can sense the energy within."

Their moment of discovery was abruptly interrupted as the ground beneath them began to tremble. The once serene forest now echoed with an ominous sound, a deep, resonant growl that seemed to come from everywhere at once.

"We must hurry," Alex urged, his gaze darting toward the distant forest. The urgency in his voice spurred them into action. They sprinted through the underbrush, hearts pounding, each step carrying them closer to safety.

As they crossed the boundary into the village, the massive serpent that had been pursuing them came to an abrupt halt. Its enormous coils writhed just at the edge of the village limits, its hissing cries filled with frustration and thwarted rage. Alex turned to face the creature, his mind racing with questions. Why did the serpent hesitate? What ancient pact or hidden force protected the villagers from such a monstrous threat?

Standing at the threshold of safety, Alex vowed to uncover the mysteries surrounding the village and the strange artifacts they had found. He knew that the answers lay hidden somewhere in the intersection of the past and the mystical, waiting to be revealed.

"I'll ask Aurora about this," Alex said, his voice tinged with urgency.

"Don't show it to anyone else. That stone might be valuable," Evan advised, his tone serious.

When Alex returned to Aurora's hut, she was engrossed in treating one of her patients. After finishing her treatment, she turned to Alex, her blind eyes seemingly piercing through him.

"Alex, why are you here so early today?" she asked, sensing his presence.

"Aurora, look at this," Alex said, placing the stone in her palm. She began to examine it carefully.

"This is a serpent egg," said Aurora, her voice filled with awe. "Where did you find this? This is a potent source of energy, and finding one this big is rare... was it stolen?"

"No, no, we found it inside a boar's stomach while we were hunting," Alex explained.

Aurora's fingers traced the contours of the egg.

"This eggshell is incredibly strong... how do we break it?" Alex asked.

"Put it in a fire and burn it. Then you can break it quickly," Aurora instructed.

Alex took the egg and started a fire as instructed. Just then, a thunderous sound echoed in the distance, causing him to hesitate. Should he break the egg, potentially angering the serpent, or should he return it? Remembering that snakes were known to become lifelong enemies, Alex decided to return the egg to its rightful owner.

Determined, Alex took the egg and ventured back into the forest. After some time, he slowly approached the place where the serpent had been. He held up the egg, placing it gently on the ground before stepping back to observe. The serpent, however, remained at the village limits, hissing in frustration.

"Can't you come in?" Alex asked, his voice soft but clear.

The serpent's eyes locked onto Alex, its massive head tilting slightly. "Then step back. I'll bring the egg over there," Alex said, sensing a strange understanding between them.

The serpent's eyes followed Alex's movements as he cautiously approached the village boundary. He carefully placed the egg just outside the village limits and stepped back, watching as the serpent slowly slithered forward, coiling protectively around the egg.

In that moment, Alex felt a profound sense of relief. He had avoided making a powerful enemy and perhaps, just perhaps, had earned a unique ally.

Then, to Alex's astonishment, the serpent began to vomit something. After expelling its contents, it took the egg in its mouth and immediately disappeared into the forest. Alex stood there, surprised and somewhat relieved. The serpent had left something behind, perhaps as a gesture of gratitude.

Curious, Alex picked up the items that had fallen to the ground. Among them were a gold ring and a crystal. He took the ring in his hand, and as soon as he touched the crystal, its energy was immediately absorbed by his body. Alex marveled at the sensation, though he still couldn't figure out how to control his ability to absorb energy.

He pocketed the ring and made his way back to the village, eager to show Aurora what he had found. When he arrived, he placed the ring in her hand.

"It's a storage ring," Aurora said, marveling at it. "Where did you find this? You can't even find such things in this village."

Alex recounted the encounter with the serpent and how he had returned the egg. Aurora listened intently, her blind eyes seemingly focused on something distant.

"This ring is incredibly rare and valuable," she said thoughtfully. "It can store items within it, almost like a pocket dimension. The fact that the serpent gave it to you... it means something."

"What does it mean?" Alex asked, intrigued.

"It means you've earned its respect or gratitude," Aurora replied. "And perhaps more than that. This ring could be a key to unlocking greater power or knowledge. But be careful, Alex. Such gifts often come with unforeseen consequences."

Alex nodded, understanding the gravity of her words. He looked at the ring, feeling a mix of excitement and apprehension. This discovery had opened a new chapter in his life, one filled with potential but also fraught with unknown dangers. With Aurora's guidance and his newfound abilities, Alex felt ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.
