However, Professor Oak, the authoritative Pokémon researcher, seemed too excited to notice his mistake.

Charmander's tail is part of its Outrage. If someone other than its Trainer touches it carelessly, it can cause big problems. Yet, Professor Oak picked it up and shook it around, oblivious to the small flame. Charmander's expression changed instantly.

"Yikes! Boom!!!"

"Oh, it's hot!!" Before he realized it, a burst of Flamethrower shot out, engulfing Professor Oak's upper body in flames, his glasses wide with shock as they reflected the blaze.

"Charmander!!"

After a moment, Charmander calmed down, letting out a small puff of embers. Professor Oak, now burnt black, coughed out a cloud of smoke before collapsing to the ground.

"The temperature of that flame is... quite colorful!"

Despite the situation, Professor Oak still managed to admire Charmander's firepower. Perhaps this passion for discovery is what keeps him so dedicated to his research.

After a while, he regained his composure, mentally applauding Ash's progress once again. First Bulbasaur, now Charmander.

"That Charmander has already mastered Flamethrower," Professor Oak mused. "Ash is really proving himself—a rising star!"

Meanwhile, back at the Pokémon Center, Ash quickly called Professor Oak's lab.

"Ash! I knew you would call," Professor Oak greeted enthusiastically.

"Uh, Professor... what happened?" Ash asked, noticing the Professor's singed appearance, clearly still recovering from the Flamethrower.

"Ah! Haha! It's nothing, just a usual day. Your Charmander is very lively!" Professor Oak replied with a smile, scratching his head.

"I caught Bulbasaur yesterday and now Charmander today! I'm on a roll, huh?" Ash said proudly.

"Indeed! Well done, Ash! So, are you looking to send Charmander over?"

"Yeah, but could I send you Gyarados in exchange?" Ash asked, readying his Poké Ball.

"Wow, even Gyarados? That's a Pokémon that gives Rookie Trainers nightmares! Impressive!" Professor Oak was amazed. Most Rookie Trainers would run in fear at the sight of Gyarados, but Ash had already managed to capture one.

"It's not as big a deal as you think, Professor. Let's get the exchange started," Ash replied, taking out the Poké Ball. Professor Oak nodded in agreement.

"Alright, I've got it," Professor Oak said, preparing Charmander's Poké Ball. They both approached the teleporter, ready for the exchange.

Ash placed Gyarados' Poké Ball on the machine, and after confirming Professor Oak was set, both pressed the button. A current surrounded the Poké Balls, and soon they had been swapped.

"Got it, Professor!" Ash confirmed.

"All set on my end too. Okay, Gyarados, come out and say goodbye to everyone!" Professor Oak said as he released Gyarados from the Poké Ball.

"Gyarados!!" The massive Pokémon emerged, immediately crashing into the wall, given its size.

"Professor, are you alright?" Ash and the others couldn't help but laugh. Even though Professor Oak was one of the world's leading experts on Pokémon, his forgetfulness often got him into trouble.

"I'm fine, I'm fine! This happens all the time, haha!" Professor Oak laughed it off, though it was clear he was a bit rattled.

"Well, I'll leave Gyarados in your care, Professor. Make sure Gyarados keeps up its training and listens to you!" Ash said as he concluded the call, giving one last reminder to his Pokémon.

Since Gyarados had already evolved and was stronger than Ash's other Pokémon, Ash decided to send it to Professor Oak's lab first to focus on training his other team members.

"Roar!!!"

Although Gyarados was reluctant, it still respected Ash's decision. Its eyes squinted as if it were smiling, though its large open mouth still appeared intimidating. However, after being together for so long, Ash knew that Gyarados only looked fierce when facing enemies.

"No worries, just keep going! I look forward to seeing you catch even more powerful Pokémon," Professor Oak said encouragingly.

"Thanks, Professor. I'll do my best. Let's end the call here," Ash replied, hanging up the phone before taking Charmander's Poké Ball into his hand.

"Come out, Charmander!"

Ash threw the Poké Ball to the ground, and Charmander appeared in front of him. Ash crouched down, gently wiping the dirt off Charmander's face with a smile.

"Charmander, I'm counting on you from now on!" Ash said warmly.

"Charmander!!"

Charmander's eyes shimmered with emotion. It was clearly touched by Ash's words. It reached out a paw and held Ash's hand just as Nurse Joy approached.

"Ash, congratulations on capturing Charmander!" Nurse Joy said cheerfully. She had heard all about what happened outside, even though she hadn't seen it herself. All the Trainers at the Pokémon Center were talking about how Ash had taken in Charmander.

Nurse Joy was genuinely happy for Charmander, who had finally found a true Trainer, and for Ash, who had gained a loyal new partner.

"Thank you, Nurse Joy!" Ash replied gratefully.

"It's such a shame that Damian got away," Misty said with frustration. "Who knows how many other Pokémon might suffer because of him."

Even though they had defeated Damian, Misty still felt anger knowing that similar situations could happen again in the future.

"Hehe, I think after this experience, Damian won't be so quick to abandon Pokémon again," Nurse Joy said, trying to calm Misty down. She knew what had happened and could see how upset Misty was.

"If he throws away another Pokémon with great potential, he'll definitely regret it later," Nurse Joy added.

"Miss Joy, please take care of Charmander," Ash said, ignoring the mention of Damian. That kind of person wasn't worth his attention. He turned to Nurse Joy, trusting her to help his new Pokémon recover.

"Of course! Leave it to me. Charmander will be back to full health in no time," Nurse Joy assured him with a kind smile before taking Charmander with her.
