"Ah!!!" Both Misty and Brock looked at Ash in amazement. It wasn't surprising that Ash and Pikachu could understand Pikachu's feelings.

What shocked them was the revelation about Charmander—they hadn't expected that this Charmander had actually been abandoned.

Suddenly, Charmander, who had been curled up weakly on a rock, cried out when it heard Ash's words.

Charmander didn't believe it had been abandoned. It had been waiting faithfully for its Trainer to return, never leaving in case its master came back and couldn't find it. As a result, it had stayed here without searching for food and had grown very weak over time.

"Why... who would do this?" Misty asked, looking at Charmander with a hint of sorrow.

"But if it was abandoned, wouldn't it leave? Why stay here?" Brock narrowed his eyes, trying to figure out the situation.

"I don't think it's as simple as being abandoned," Ash replied. "It seems like the Trainer tricked Charmander, telling it they'd come back, so it's been waiting here ever since."

"How could someone do that?" Misty and Brock's faces filled with anger at Ash's explanation. A Trainer like that was truly despicable.

"So, what do we do now? We can't just leave it here, can we? Is there anything we can do?" Misty asked, her concern growing.

If it kept waiting like this, it wouldn't survive much longer. This poor Pokémon was too loyal for its own good.

"There's a way!" Ash said with a smile. He walked up to Charmander, who looked at him curiously, and spoke gently.

"You're waiting for your Trainer, right? You can't stay here. I know where he is. If you want to see him, follow me!" Ash offered with confidence.

Hearing this, Charmander, who had initially been wary of Ash and the others, showed a glimmer of hope in its eyes but hesitated.

Maybe it doubted whether Ash was telling the truth, or maybe it feared disobeying its Trainer's instructions to stay put.

But Ash didn't give it time to hesitate. He signaled for Brock and Misty to follow him, and the group started walking. Pikachu joined them eagerly.

"Ash, will this really work?" Misty asked, glancing back nervously.

"What's wrong?"

"Do you really know where its Trainer is?"

"I don't," Ash admitted, his tone calm. "I know who abandoned it, but I'm not sure if we'll run into him."

"Then… aren't you lying to it?" Misty whispered, worried they might be giving Charmander false hope.

"I'm helping it," Ash said firmly. "If it keeps waiting, it'll die here—if not from hunger, then from the rain. It nearly died already."

"But what if we never find its Trainer?" Misty conceded Ash's point but still felt uneasy.

"There's a Pokémon Center not far ahead. Let's get Charmander there and have Nurse Joy heal it first."

"And if it runs away?" Misty asked, concerned about what might happen next.

"If it tries to run, I'll have Ivysaur use Sleep Powder to stop it," Ash said with a grin. "Don't worry, I'll make sure it's okay."

Misty smiled at Ash's determination, and though his plan seemed a bit rough, she knew it might be their best option. At that moment, Brock, who had been keeping an eye on Charmander, suddenly spoke up.

"Hush! It's coming."

After hearing the sound, Misty turned to look and saw Charmander following them cautiously. Ash glanced back too, not worried that it was following, but rather concerned that it might stop.

Brock agreed with Ash's approach. If Charmander stayed out in the rain again, things could turn bad quickly. Brock despised Trainers who abandoned their Pokémon, so he was especially invested in helping.

"Oh... I hope this little one realizes what's best for it," he muttered.

Ash didn't say anything more and continued walking. Soon, they reached a road that led straight to Vermilion City. However, the journey was long, and they were still several days away from reaching it.

Fortunately, they soon found a rest stop—a Pokémon Center situated along the roadside for travelers. There were many such centers scattered around the world.

Charmander followed them the whole way, and as they approached the entrance of the Pokémon Center, it continued trailing behind. When it saw Ash and the others preparing to enter, Charmander suddenly cried out.

"Charmander!"

"Hmm? Your Trainer is inside, if you want to see them, go ahead!" Ash said before walking into the center, with Brock and Misty close behind. Charmander hesitated but eventually followed them inside.

The Pokémon Center was bustling, with many Trainers gathered in the lobby. Charmander immediately began scanning the room, looking for its owner.

But after a few moments of searching, it couldn't find its Trainer anywhere. Meanwhile, Ash had already taken out a Poké Ball, anticipating what might happen next. When Charmander failed to locate its owner, it turned toward Ash and roared in frustration.

"I'm doing this for your own good," Ash said, unfazed by Charmander's anger.

Charmander let out another angry cry but didn't seem interested in arguing further. Instead, it turned around and started heading toward the exit.

"Ah! Is it going back to that spot again?" Misty exclaimed, her first thought being that Charmander intended to return to where it had been waiting.

"Don't worry!" Ash replied, preparing to throw the Poké Ball. But just as Charmander turned, it staggered and collapsed before Ash could act.

"Ah! Charmander!" Misty and Brock rushed over to the fallen Pokémon, and Ash quickly put away the Poké Ball as he ran forward to help.
