Closing the door behind Patrick, I turned around and heard my mother tell me to take Grace up to my room while she got dinner set up. Taking Grace by the hand I lead her up the stairs towards my room.
As we walked in the room, I said to Grace: "Put your stuff over there on the bed and then sit over on my vanity stool."
As Grace turned around I could see confusion mixed with a little sadness flash across her face. I think I even saw a little glistening at the corners of her eyes.
It hit me that she might have become a little upset at the flirtation between Patrick and me, so I simply asked, albeit in a slightly firm tone, "Okay. What's got you upset all of a sudden?"
Grace became very interested in the tops of her sneakers and remained silent.
"Out with it," I said in a somewhat firmer tone. "What's gotten into you!"
