"Oh, great!" She lost him, he was nowhere to be found.
After she went after him into the ballroom, she was unable find him. "I think he 'camouflaged' himself with the people in the hall." She said, while scanning her deep, piercing green eyes through the hall, looking for her 'prey'. Well she truly looked a predator with her captivating deep green eyes. She looked dangerous.
While she was so lost in her thoughts, looking for her 'prey', a palm 'gracefully' landed on her left shoulder from behind her, making her shriek from shock, as she earned the stares of those nearby.
Her piercing green eyes became alerted immediately, as she held tightly onto the 'attacker's' wrist as she spun herself around.
"Auntie?" She said slowly, her hand still holding her wrist.
"Ava, what is wrong with you? I kept on calling your name, but it seemed like you couldn't hear me. And you dare to hold onto my wrist this tightly for trying to tap on your shoulder? What has gotten into you?"
Catherine stared at Ava with shock in her eyes, her brow furrowed as she was really confused with Ava's reaction.
"Oh, I'm sorry Aunt. I had no idea that you were the one," she admitted while letting go of her wrist slowly. "I was just a little startled" She continued, her voice trailing off towards the ending.
She's the only one who knows the main reason why she reacted the way she did. Ava's mind flashed back to the incident, one that had left an indelible mark on her. She couldn't bear the thought of others touching her, not after what had happened all those years ago, when her parents were still alive.
But how come her body didn't recoil to his touch? Instead of recoiling, her stupid heart acted up as it was beating really fast.
"Anyways, we're leaving," Catherine said, breaking her train of thought.
"No! We can't leave." 'I'm yet to convince him'. She yelled, her eyes widened a little as she brought her palm out dramatically as she yelled the "no". 'I can't leave now, I have no other way to see him'. She thought dejectedly.
"What do you mean? Your uncle says it's time to leave, so WE'RE leaving. He has no business here anymore. His purpose for coming here has been fulfilled. So we're leaving." She said in one go as she was in a hurry.
Catherine glanced at the closed doors of the hall. Sebastian and Richard were waiting for them outside the hall. She had spent the last five minutes searching for Ava, finally spotting her step out of the balcony and into the hall.
She walked up to her to inform her about their early departure. As she called out to Ava, she realized Ava seemed distracted, scanning the room as if searching for someone. With a gentle tap on the shoulder, Catherine finally caught Ava's attention.
"What business did Uncle come here for?" Ava asked, her brow furrowed in curiosity as she searched Catherine's face for answers. She knew he didn't attend the gala just for simple enjoyment and interaction with others. He had always been secretive with his work, so she simply brushed it off.
Even now, she doesn't actually care about what business he came here for. She just wanted to stall Aunt Catherine a little as she searches for her 'prey'. Her eyes kept on darting around the ballroom, but she still couldn't find him. 'Oh, come on!' She was completely frustrated.
Aunt Catherine's expression turned evasive. "How is that your business?" she asked, avoiding eye contact with Ava.
Ava's curiosity was piqued by Catherine's reaction. Her aunt's guilty demeanor sparked Ava's interest. 'What's going on, Aunt Catherine?' Ava wondered, but before she could ask more questions, Catherine snapped, "Are you going to stand here questioning me, or are you going to follow me to the car? Your uncle and cousin have both been waiting for ten minutes now."
"Okay..." Ava trailed off, her brow still furrowed as she studied her aunt's expression.
They finally left the hall together, unaware of the bright and intense blue eyes that had been watching them the entire time.
