Marcus's grave expression sent a shiver through Samantha. She sank onto the edge of the bed, her mind reeling. "Tell me everything," she demanded, her voice barely above a whisper.
Marcus sat beside her, his presence solid and reassuring despite the turmoil of emotions swirling between them. "Lucian and Lily were supposed to attend another meeting with the High Court. But she's suddenly gone missing."
Samantha's eyes widened. "The High Court? What business could they possibly have with them?"
"That's what concerns me," Marcus replied, his brow furrowed. "Lily's always been careful to keep her distance from vampire politics. For her to agree to a meeting with the High Court... something must have happened. There could be more Lucian hasn't told me because he was pressed for time. "
Samantha stood abruptly, pacing the room. Her mind raced through possibilities, each more alarming than the last. "Could they have taken her? Forced her to come?"
