Chapter 32 - Lair

As the initial flurry of activity in the safe house settled, Samantha found herself with a moment to breathe and take in her surroundings. The room was larger than she'd first realized, with comfortable, if mismatched, furniture scattered about. Eight vampires, including Marcus, moved around the space with the easy familiarity of those long acquainted.

A tall, willowy woman with silver hair caught Samantha's eye and approached with a warm smile. "You must be Samantha," she said, her voice melodious. "I'm Evelyn. Welcome to our little safe house."

Samantha returned the smile, grateful for the friendly face. "Thank you. It's... a lot to take in."

Evelyn nodded understandingly. "It always is, at first. But you'll find we're quite a lively bunch, despite our condition."
