"The list is three pages long," Kai said in disbelief, staring at the grocery notes. "Why do we need five different types of chocolate?"
"Because someone keeps experimenting with pancakes," Samantha teased.
"Fine, fine. But if I come back to find you two had fun without me..." He winked, grabbing his keys.
After Kai left, Samantha found Marcus reading on their porch. Perfect timing.
"Miss having me all to yourself sometimes?" she asked, settling beside him.
The slight pause before his answer told her everything. "We have a good balance now."
"Do we?" She traced a finger down his arm. "Because I remember how... creative you used to get back at your estate. Before we found our wolf."
Marcus's book lowered slightly. "Sam..."
"Kai knows that side of you," she continued. "He's seen it. And I've seen how you watch us sometimes, like you're holding back."
