Chapter 14 - 14: In Anticipation of Tomorrow

Xander found himself back in the thick of work after his vacation with Amelia, but he was determined to make the best of it. Each day was filled with a whirlwind of meetings, calls, and projects that kept him busy from morning until night. Yet despite the hectic pace, he found himself buoyed by the memory of Amelia's smile and the promise he'd made to help her find a job she was passionate about.

During his lunch breaks and in the evenings, Xander made it a point to call the contacts he knew in the non-profit sector.

"Hey, Dave!" he said, greeting one of his contacts with enthusiasm. "It's been a while. I hope you're doing well. Listen, I'm calling because I have a special request."

"Oh, really?" Dave replied, his curiosity piqued. "Sounds interesting. What can I help you with?"

Xander explained the situation, talking excitedly about Amelia's passion for social justice and her desire to work for a non-profit. Dave was intrigued, nodding as he listened.

"You know," Dave said, his voice thoughtful, "I might have just the opportunity for her. One of the organizations I work with is expanding their advocacy department. They're looking for someone with a strong writing background and a passion for social change. Would Amelia be interested?"

Xander's heart raced as he heard Dave's words, excitement coursing through his veins. "She would absolutely be interested!" he exclaimed. "Thank you so much, Dave. This means the world to her."

Dave smiled. "Glad I could help.

Xander continued to make calls over the next few days, connecting with other contacts and following up on leads. Each conversation brought him closer to making Amelia's dream a reality.

"How about I send over Amelia's resume?" Xander asked one of his contacts, his voice filled with anticipation. "I think she'd be a great fit for your team."

The person on the other end of the line agreed to take a look, and Xander couldn't help but feel a surge of pride at the thought of Amelia succeeding in a role that she was truly passionate about.

On a Saturday morning, the sun was beginning to set, casting a warm, golden glow over the city as Amelia and Xander snuggled up on the couch, their bellies full from the delicious meal Amelia had prepared. As the TV flickered on, Amelia couldn't help but steal a glance at Xander, her heart full of love and gratitude.

Xander, sensing Amelia's gaze, turned to face her, a soft smile playing on his lips. "I know what you're thinking," he said, his voice low and warm.

Amelia chuckled, her cheeks coloring slightly. "Oh? And what's that?

Xander's smile grew even wider, his eyes dancing with mischief. "Well, one of them—Dave, you know, from his organization he worked, he said that his organization is actually expanding their advocacy department. And they're looking for someone with exactly your kind of skills."

Amelia's jaw dropped, her breath catching in her throat. "Seriously?" she gasped, barely able to believe what she was hearing. "And he thinks I could be a good fit?"

Xander nodded, his excitement mirroring Amelia's. "Yes! He seemed really keen to talk to you."

Amelia's face flushed with excitement, her mind racing with possibilities. "That's amazing, Xander!" she exclaimed, bouncing up and down on the couch like an excited child. "I can't believe this is really happening! What should I do? How should I reach out to him?"

Xander chuckled, his heart swelling with pride at the sight of Amelia's joy. "Well, I told Dave that I'd send him your resume," he said, reaching for the remote and turning off the TV. "And now I think we should spend the rest of the night working on that. Together."

Amelia's heart fluttered at Xander's words, her gaze locked with his. "You're the best, you know that?" she whispered, leaning forward to kiss him.

Xander pulled her closer, his lips meeting hers in a soft, lingering embrace. "Anything for you, my love," he murmured, his voice deep and velvety.

On Sunday evening, Amelia and Xander sat together on the couch, a pile of papers spread out between them. Xander's laptop hummed softly on the coffee table, the glow of the screen illuminating their faces as they worked.

"I think that's everything," Amelia said, stacking the last of her resumes on top of the pile. She turned to Xander, her eyes full of gratitude. "Thank you for helping me with this, Xander. I don't know what I'd do without you."

Xander smiled, his hand resting on Amelia's knee.

"It's my pleasure, Amelia," Xander replied, his voice soft but sincere. "I want to help you achieve your dreams in any way I can. And this is just the beginning, I promise."

Amelia's cheeks flushed with warmth, and she leaned into him, resting her head against his shoulder. "You're so amazing, Xander," she murmured, her voice almost a whisper. "I'm so lucky to have you in my life."

Xander's heart skipped a beat, and he squeezed Amelia's hand.

For a moment, they sat together in silence, basking in each other's warmth and love. Then, suddenly, Amelia sat up, her eyes wide with excitement.

"Oh my god, I almost forgot!" she exclaimed. "We need to call Dave! He's coming to pick me up tomorrow morning."

Xander chuckled, reaching for his phone. "Oh, right," he said, a playful smirk on his lips. "Let's make sure he knows the plan."

Amelia giggled, her hand covering her mouth as Xander dialed Dave's number.

The call connected, and Dave's voice echoed from the speaker, warm and friendly. "Hey, Xander! How's it going?"

Xander grinned, his eyes dancing with mischief. "Dave, my man! I'm great, thanks. Listen, I just wanted to let you know that Amelia is all set for tomorrow. She's got her resume and everything, and she's ready to rock."

Dave chuckled, his voice full of amusement. "That's great news, Xander. I'm really looking forward to meeting Amelia and seeing what she's all about."

"Yeah, she's a real gem, Dave," Xander said, his pride for Amelia evident in his voice. "And listen, I just want you to know that if she's a good fit for the role, I'll be there to support her every step of the way."

"I appreciate that, Xander," Dave replied, his tone growing more serious. "I'm really impressed by your dedication to helping Amelia, and I know she'll be in good hands with you by her side."

"That's the plan, Dave," Xander said, his grin widening.

"So," Xander continued, "you said you'd be coming by around 9:30 in the morning? I'll make sure Amelia's ready and waiting for you. Just look for the girl with the killer smile and the killer resume."

Dave chuckled again, his voice warm and friendly. "I'll be there, Xander. And don't worry.

Xander's cheeks flushed with affection as he thought about Amelia, his heart swelling with love.

As the conversation came to a close, Xander and Amelia exchanged knowing glances, their hearts soaring with anticipation for what the next day would bring.

"Thanks again, Dave," Xander said, his voice sincere. "I'll see you tomorrow."
