Chapter 7 - 7: The Price Of Love

As Amelia recovered from her accident, and then moved back to New York. Xander proposed that she move into his parents' house, where they could care for her until she was fully recovered. Amelia agreed, but she felt nervous about the idea, knowing that Xander's parents had never been particularly supportive of their relationship.

When she informed her own parents of the plan, they expressed concerns, but ultimately, they knew that Amelia loved Xander and they wanted her to be happy. So, with a heavy heart, Amelia moved into the Thompson house.

Xander went to work each day, leaving Amelia in the care of his parents.

At first, Xander's mother seemed to be making an effort to be kind and hospitable. She brought Amelia meals, helped her settle in, and even offered to drive her to the doctor's appointments.

But as the days went by, Xander's mother's true colors began to show. When Xander wasn't around, she made subtle but hurtful remarks about Amelia's family background and her lack of sophistication. She would often tell her that she didn't belong in their world, and that she would never be good enough for Xander.

These remarks left Amelia feeling deflated and alone.

As Amelia struggled to cope with the mistreatment, she began to withdraw from Xander's parents. She would stay in her room for hours, avoiding any conversation or interaction with them.

Meanwhile, Xander had no idea what was going on at home. His mother had always been adept at hiding her true nature from him, and Amelia was too kind-hearted to say anything that might upset him.

As the weeks passed, Amelia's spirits continued to sink, and her mental and physical health began to suffer. She began to wonder if Xander's love for her was enough to overcome the obstacles that stood between them.

Finally, one day, Xander returned home from work to find Amelia in tears. He rushed to her side, his heart pounding with worry.

"Amelia, what's wrong?" he asked, taking her into his arms. "What happened? Did something happen at the doctor's?"

Amelia shook her head, unable to speak through her sobs. She held onto Xander tightly, as if he were the only thing keeping her from falling apart.

"Please, Amelia," Xander pleaded. "You can tell me anything. I'll do whatever I can to help."

Slowly, Amelia began to open up to Xander. She told him about the hurtful things his mother had said to her, how she had made her feel like she didn't belong.

Xander was shocked and furious. "My mother said that to you?" he asked, his voice trembling with anger. "I can't believe she would say something so awful.

"I'm so sorry, Amelia. You don't deserve to be treated like that, especially not in my home. I should have been here for you."

Amelia reached out and took Xander's hand.

"Xander, it's not your fault," Amelia said, her voice still shaking. "I should have told you sooner, but I didn't want to cause problems between you and your parents.

"But I can't do this anymore, Xander. I can't live in a place where I'm not wanted. I think I should go back home, to my parents."

Xander's heart sank at Amelia's words. He couldn't bear the thought of losing her, but he knew that he couldn't ask her to stay in such a toxic environment.

Just as Xander and Amelia were coming to terms with their decision, Mrs. Thompson entered the room, a look of concern on her face.

"Amelia, my dear," she said, her voice dripping with false sweetness. "I'm so sorry if I've said anything to upset you. I didn't mean to hurt you.

"Please, Amelia, give us another chance. Stay with us a little longer. I promise, I'll do better. We all make mistakes, but I'm willing to learn from mine."

Amelia looked at Mrs. Thompson, uncertain of what to believe. She didn't want to distrust Xander's mother, but she knew from experience that the woman could be incredibly manipulative.

"Mrs. Thompson," Amelia began, her voice shaky but firm. "I appreciate your apology, but I'm not sure I can trust you. You've been so hurtful to me, and I don't know if I can forgive that.

"Maybe it would be better if I went home, like we planned."

Mrs. Thompson's face fell, but before she could say anything, Xander stepped in.

"Mom," Xander said, his voice strong and steady. "I think Amelia has made her decision, and I'm going to support her. If she wants to go home, then that's what we'll do.

"I love you, Mom, but you've really hurt Amelia. And if you can't treat her with the respect and kindness she deserves, then maybe it's better if we keep our distance for a while."

Mrs. Thompson's expression turned from disappointment to anger. "Xander," she said, her voice rising. "You're choosing her over me? Your own mother?"

Go on

Xander stood firm, his eyes fixed on his mother's. "I'm choosing love, Mom," he said, his voice filled with emotion

I love Amelia, and I'm not going to let anyone, not even you, come between us.

"We're leaving, Mom. Please don't try to stop us."

Mrs. Thompson watched in shock as Xander took Amelia's hand and led her out of the room.

Outside, Amelia turned to Xander, her heart racing. "Thank you, Xander," she whispered. "Thank you for standing up for me."

Ok

"Amelia, I would stand up for you against anyone, even my own mother," Xander replied, his voice full of love. "You are the most important person in my life, and I will always choose you."

The couple made their way back to Amelia's parents' house, where they were greeted with open arms and loving embraces. Amelia's parents were relieved to have her back, and they promised to support her and Xander in whatever decision they made.

Xander and Amelia sat down with Amelia's parents, and they all agreed that they needed to find a solution that worked for everyone.

But in that moment, Xander knew that he couldn't let anything come between him and the love of his life. He looked at Amelia, his heart full of hope and love.
