Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: We Are Taking Over From Here On

Zane was the first to get out of the car.

He gently closed the car door and then turned around, shouting, "Rebellion! I think it's you in the security bureau who are trying to rebel! We are the Royal Secret Intelligence Bureau, what's the meaning of drawing swords against us? Do you all not value your heads?!"

As he spoke, Zane smashed his fists together, creating the sound of metal clashing.

Seeing Zane, the sheriffs knew that Black Mamba must also be present.

Facing a woman accustomed to using executions to express her opinions, the sheriffs' momentum weakened a bit.

One of the sheriff captains said, "We are all serving the Empire. If there's a misunderstanding, we can talk it out. How about we all put away our weapons first?"

Zane crossed his arms, arrogantly saying, "We can talk, but you put away your weapons first."

The sheriff captain didn't want to escalate the situation and signaled his subordinates to put away their weapons.

Zane also ordered the agents to put their weapons away.

Shelley said to Lucas, "Inspector, it's safe outside."

"Okay."

Zane opened the car door for him.

When Lucas stepped out of the car, he immediately became the center of attention.

Zane was a hothead, and the only person he usually respected was Black Mamba.

For this person to make Zane open the car door and act so respectfully, could he be...

Upon seeing the inspector badge on his chest, everyone immediately knew his identity.

The new inspector of the Seawall District's Secret Intelligence Bureau.

Lucas, leaning on his cane, first scanned the surroundings, then slowly walked towards the entrance of the Mad Axe Gang headquarters, all eyes on him.

Shelley and Zane followed behind him.

As he passed by the sheriff captain, Lucas didn't even glance at him, instead inspecting the towering castle walls and gate in front of him.

"Captain Basel, where is your bureau chief?"

"Inspector, hello." Being named, Basel immediately saluted Lucas respectfully, "Our bureau chief is attending a meeting at the central district security headquarters. Here..."

"This place is now under the control of the Secret Intelligence Bureau. You can leave."

The security bureau had a bunch of forces waiting to split the spoils from the Mad Axe Gang, so there was no way they would easily give up this chance to destroy the gang.

"Inspector... The Mad Axe Gang is an illegal organization. They've committed numerous illegal activities in the Seawall District, even colluding with pirates to harm the interests of the Empire's lawful merchants.

Our Seawall District Security Bureau has been monitoring them for a long time and has substantial evidence of their crimes. We are here to arrest those involved in the case.

Please don't obstruct us from performing our duties."

Lucas didn't expect the security bureau to use such an excuse against the Mad Axe Gang.

If handled improperly, he could be accused of protecting an illegal organization and colluding with pirates.

Just starting his post, getting entangled in such a lawsuit would definitely affect his future promotions.

But promotions... What do they matter to a fake inspector like him?!

Captain Basel had a look of amusement on his face.

He seemed certain that the new inspector of the Secret Intelligence Bureau, being new, wouldn't stick his neck out for a gang unrelated to him and get himself into trouble.

Finally, Lucas looked at Basel.

In a contemptuous tone, he said, "Captain Basel... Everything must be secondary to imperial security. I don't care how much evidence your security bureau has against the Mad Axe Gang; we have our own matters requiring their cooperation for an investigation.

You will retreat. This place is now under our control. Do you have any objections?"

Basel didn't expect the new inspector of the Seawall District's Secret Intelligence Bureau to be this tough.

The money from the Mad Axe Gang didn't go into your pocket, so why bother inviting such trouble?

"Inspector, you need to think this through. The crimes committed by the Mad Axe Gang are very serious, especially their collusion with pirates... It's a major crime that the Empire is cracking down on.

You've just arrived in the Seawall District and might not be fully aware of the situation here. Don't be misled by false information."

Shelley placed her hand on her gun handle, angrily saying, "Basel, what do you mean by that?"

Lucas raised a hand to stop Shelley from losing her temper and then said to Basel, "Are you trying to teach me how to do my job?"

Basel quickly responded, "No, no, no, I'm merely offering you some advice."

Lucas smiled and said, "Thank you for your advice. But... do you think I brought so many people here just to turn around because of your advice? Only one of us can go in. Is it you? Or is it me?"

Under Lucas's gaze, Basel started to sweat from the pressure.

This was no longer about benefits or right and wrong; it had become a matter of pride.

"Inspector, I think..."

"Basel! I am going through that door, no matter what. If you don't want to leave, then wait outside. If you dare to force your way in... Zane!"

Zane snapped to attention.

"Yes, Inspector!"

"Until I come out, anyone who tries to enter... kill them! I will take full responsibility!"

"Yes, Inspector!"

After Lucas finished speaking, he and Shelley walked towards the gate. The Mad Axe Gang members guarding the entrance immediately and respectfully welcomed them inside.

Following orders, Zane tore off his shirt, casting aside the shredded rags, revealing his mechanical arm and tire-like muscles. He looked at the sheriffs provocatively.

As if saying: "Just try taking a step forward."

The tough fear the reckless, and the reckless fear those who are suicidal. Zane was tough, reckless, and suicidal.

Meanwhile, the Seawall District sheriffs were just there to earn their pay, none of them intending to risk their lives.

Seeing that Zane had received a kill order from the Seawall District's Secret Intelligence Bureau Inspector, all the sheriffs not only refrained from stepping forward but collectively took a step back.

Basel watched as the Seawall District Secret Intelligence Bureau inspector walked inside, saying nothing further.

The current situation was beyond his authority to resolve; he could only acquiesce to this outcome.

Lucas entered the Mad Axe Gang headquarters, greeted by the familiar sight of the castle.

Returning to an old haunt brought a flood of emotions.

At that moment, the remaining core members of the Mad Axe Gang approached, their expressions as if they were seeing their saviors.

If the Secret Intelligence Bureau hadn't sent people last night, other gangs might have already stormed in. By daybreak, the Secret Intelligence Bureau firmly kept the security bureau at bay.

They had just heard the new inspector of the Secret Intelligence Bureau issue a kill order to protect them.

Who else but their parents would go to such lengths for them?

The gratitude of the Mad Axe Gang towards Lucas was palpable, dispelling any previous fears of abandonment.

After the deaths of Jumu and several core members, Lambert, who had met with Ela the previous day, became the temporary leader of the Mad Axe Gang.

Lambert approached Lucas, bowing in salute, "The Mad Axe Gang is grateful for the inspector's rescue."

At this moment, a gang member brought over a wooden box.

Shelley opened it. Inside, the gems, gold, and money dazzled the eye.

Lucas smiled and had Shelley put it away, then addressed the gang members, "It seems the people outside aren't willing to withdraw just like that. Let's go inside and discuss how to handle the crisis at hand."
