Ralph's Point Of View
It was a shocking turn-around for everyone, including Layla. I am sure she never saw that coming, as she was expecting her worst enemy, who we all know about, to leave.
But things suddenly turned around and changed. My heart couldn't stop rejoicing as soon as we got to the comfort of my room.
"Did you see the look on her beautiful face? Oh, she didn't expect that shock.".
I couldn't hold it in anymore as I laughed along with Liam. "It was so humiliating, as she was dressed so elegantly. Tell me, how come you didn't know that it was her father who was going to take her out of the game?".
"I sincerely do not know anything about that, as I am as shocked as her, and this happening around is a mystery to me."
We both lay down on my bed, staring into the ceiling for such a long time.
"Do you think I am ready?" Liam turned his head. "Ready for what?"
"I don't know, you know, ready for this mating thing, making babies thing. Having to allow a woman to sleep with me at night. It all overwhelms me, and I do not think I am ready for such a new life," I said, turning his head back.
"I understand how you feel" Liam said
"No, "you don't; you are mated to someone you love. I have to train myself to love someone, and I still have to love her for the rest of my life. What if I don't grow up to love her?".
This fear has stopped me from reaching out to any woman, the fear of not liking the outcome in the long run.
"I understand you quite well; having to marry or mate with someone you love doesn't mean there are days you would wish you hadn't taken the steps.".
"Then I do not want to do it; if that's the case, I do not want to put up with anything. I love this kingdom; that should be enough." My beta couldn't respond as a guard walked in.
"Your Highness, The council has requested an urgent meeting as the head warrior has sighted a break at the border.
"A break, you say?" My beta and I both chorused at the same time, Yes, Your Highness.".
I rushed to get out of bed, but we both struggled as our arms and legs seemed to fail each other, with my wolf mocking out an embarrassing state at the moment. After what looked like minutes, we were able to make it up, knowing fully well that it would take several minutes to calm the kingdom down. With the way they would all be agitated by the news, which has not been confirmed yet, I looked at my beta as we got out of the palace, wouldn't it be more reasonable to go down to the border to check things out ourselves before we head go to the lion's den?" ... Knowing fully well what I meant by the lion's den
"I think that should be taken into consideration, as I would prefer we look into the matter ourselves; the council can't be trusted at this point as they might want to rule over any suggestions you make at the meeting.".
"Going there would be better, but what if it's true? What if not?"
I didn't know if I should thank him for making me more agitated, and I still didn't have the best solution at hand. I made my way towards the border with my beta. Some cracks truly, but it made no invasion.
But the cracks were as visible as you got closer. "This is not something serious; why would the Council be agitated over this?" My beta asked, and I had no answer to that wish. I did, but right now I do not.
We were about to leave when I spotted something on the floor; it looked more like a feminine item. What was it? what's that?" I pointed toward the object that was on the floor.
My beta, who was in total confusion, looked at the object, waiting for it to be picked up.
"This looks like one of the random items given to the chosen; one of them must have done this; who could it be?" My beta asked a dreadful question.
None of us has answers, but we still have to find answers to the question.
"Do you think it is wise to tell the council or find out about it ourselves?" I know it wasn't an option, but when it comes to the council
And irrational judgment, one has to rethink some matters that would be taken into their presence: "With the tension on our table, I would have to rethink the context of what we found here and find out for ourselves.".
My Wolf couldn't agree more with this decision. I kept the item safely in my pocket as we made our way to the large house. The whole room was more on fire, with different arguments coming from both angles.
"Finally, the alpha has decided to show his face before us.".
One of the counselors announced my presence, "Walking around with his good-for-nothing beta who doesn't know his job..". That was an awful thing to say to someone, but we still had to respect the council.
I mindlinked my beta: "Do not do what I wouldn't do; they are all just angry.". But I ignited more of the fire as my beta eye had gone red and was ready to pounce on anyone who tried to come at him again.
"We went to make out observations of the news that got to me at the palace; getting there, I realized that it was just a small crack, and I noticed more as the days on which the mages might want to attack us were still far ahead of us. Why the agitation?". They all looked at me like I had gone crazy; this was never the reaction they expected from me, and I liked it.
