Chapter 7 - Chapter 7 Being Scolded as a Single Dog

Ji Shunuan blushed with embarrassment but unexpectedly fell asleep.

When she woke up, she found that it had already turned dark outside.

"Hiss," she groaned softly and was about to turn over when she felt something unusual in her leg—a comfortable sensation overcame her, and her apricot eyes looked around, a bit dazed.

She saw a grey-haired old lady sitting by the bed, massaging her leg.

Hearing her movement, the old lady quickly stopped her actions, approached carefully, turned up the lights, and asked with concern, "Did the young girl wake up?"

"Are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere? Tell Grandma," the old lady said with a chuckle.

Seeing Ji Shunuan's somewhat stunned look, the old lady's wrinkled face was full of smiles. She pointed to Ji Shunuan's leg and said, "I saw that you've been lying down for several days and can't get out of bed because of your injuries. I was afraid your legs would go numb from lying down for too long, so I massaged them while you were asleep."

"Did Grandma accidentally hurt you just now?" the old lady asked cautiously.

Her words carried care and concern.

Ji Shunuan looked at the old woman in front of her, and her nose suddenly felt sore, instantly reminding her of her grandmother.

After her mother died, her maternal grandfather and grandmother took her in, and when she was tired and lay sleeping in the yard, it was her grandmother who would squat beside her and massage her legs.

"Did it really hurt you? Tell Grandma where it hurts. There, there, don't cry, Grandma will call a doctor for you right away," the old lady said upon seeing her.

She was quite startled and turned to walk outside.

Seeing this, Ji Shunuan quickly reached out and grabbed the old lady's arm, her eyes reddening as she shook her head and forced a smile, "It's not that, I'm not in pain; seeing you just made me think of my grandmother."

Seeing this, the old lady quickly sat down next to her.

She watched Ji Shunuan seriously, looking at her delicate little face full of stubbornness, which twisted her heart.

"You've been in a car accident for several days, yet no one from your family has come looking for you. Is it because they favor boys over girls, or what?" The old lady was very down-to-earth and even understood the social customs of the time quite well.

Most families are too harsh on women, especially those that favor boys over girls. They hardly treat girls as people and constantly expect them to earn money to support the family.

"My mom passed away when I was one year old, and my grandmother got sick and passed away a few years ago," Ji Shunuan's voice was somewhat choked.

She had always been good at masking her emotions, but for some reason, seeing the old lady just now had touched the most vulnerable place in her heart.

"It's okay, if you don't mind, I can be your grandmother from now on, how does that sound? In my family, the lineage has been passed down from male to male for over a hundred years, and we haven't had a girl born into the family."

"Don't be fooled by the look of my grandson; he's 29 now and still doesn't have a girlfriend. I, the old lady, am afraid that our family line will end!" the old lady said, clutching Ji Shunuan's hand with a doting expression.

Looking at this beautiful young woman, it was clear that she had a good nature!

Ji Shunuan, with her hand being held by the old lady, instinctively leaned in.

She didn't know if it was because she was injured and wanted to be a bit sentimental, or what it was, but at this moment, her heart felt much more settled.

The betrayal by Gu Zhiyuan and Ji Wushuang was hard to accept—that was the truth!

And when Old Master Gu turned against her in the end, even enticing her to contribute funds, it almost destroyed the affection she had nurtured over the years.

In fact, while she appeared calm on the surface, her heart was somewhat sorrowful.

"Pfft, Grandma, don't say that. How could Director Bo not find a girlfriend? Maybe he'll give you a surprise, and perhaps it'll be double the happiness. Don't you think?" Ji Shunuan laughed softly in comfort.

The old lady's eyes brightened upon hearing this.

Bo Jingcheng, carrying food, pushed the door open and saw Grandma and Ji Shunuan lowering their voices and talking animatedly; a glint of confusion flashed through his eyes.

If he remembered correctly, Grandma and Ji Shunuan weren't familiar with each other. They had only met twice today.

"Ahem." Bo Jingcheng stepped forward and cleared his throat.

His voice interrupted the idle chat between the two women, and the old lady's face darkened with displeasure as she commanded, "Jingcheng, come here!"

"Grandma." Bo Jingcheng instantly sensed trouble.

He strode over, was seated by the old lady next to her, and then she pointed to Ji Shunuan's injured arm, saying, "Look at what you've done, you've hurt Nuannuan so badly."

"If Nuannuan ends up with scars, Grandma will only blame you! Driving just fine, how could you hit someone and cause such an injury, and now you're even hiding outside handling business, completely irresponsible," the old lady scolded him.

Bo Jingcheng was utterly confused.

He was being scolded for no reason, and he couldn't even get a word in.

"Grandma, the car accident was entirely my fault, it has nothing to do with Mr. Bo," Ji Shunuan saw that things were looking bad and immediately started to explain on Bo Jingcheng's behalf.

She didn't want Bo Jingcheng to take the fall for her.

The fault in the car accident was hers!

"Nuannuan! You don't understand, even if you were driving and hit him, you are the one who's hurt! How can a man let a woman be injured? So it's definitely his fault."

"Now, Grandma will decide for you! I'll punish him to attend to you personally, and if I'm afraid he'll neglect you, I'll have him cook for you," the old lady said sternly.

Ji Shunuan was shocked! She quickly exchanged a glance with Bo Jingcheng.

After a long silence, Bo Jingcheng lifted his wide palm and gently patted the back of her hand.

When the man's fingertips touched her fair little hand, a tingling sensation struck her, and Ji Shunuan's heart trembled violently as if electrified.

"Yes, Grandma is right! The blame for the car accident lies with me," said Bo Jingcheng in a hoarse voice.

Hearing this, the old lady nodded in satisfaction, a smile spreading across her aged face—it was the look of someone reveling in victory!

Watching Bo Jingcheng sitting beside the hospital bed, smiling as he and Ji Shunuan faced each other, the old lady couldn't help but beam with joy, seeing them as a perfect match.

"You better take good care of her, and if you dare to bully Nuannuan, Grandma won't let you off," the grandmother warned, before taking an apple and placing it in Bo Jingcheng's hand.

"Peel an apple for Nuannuan, sigh, Grandma is getting old, my back starts to hurt after a little while. I'll go downstairs for a walk, I won't be back for a short while," the old lady said, massaging her back as she headed outside.

She murmured as she left, "Definitely won't be back for two hours, I need to walk for two hours."

Ji Shunuan's delicate little mouth gaped open in astonishment as she watched the old lady's departing figure. After a long moment, she burst into laughter, thoroughly amused.

Originally, she was a bit introverted, but the grandmother's interference had greatly lightened her mood.

"Mr. Bo, your grandmother really worries about you," Ji Shunuan said teasingly, in a cheerful mood.

Initially, she wasn't familiar with Bo Jingcheng, but the old lady's meddling somehow brought them closer.

Bo Jingcheng was peeling the apple, and upon hearing her happy laughter, the man couldn't help but look up and saw her smiling with her head to the side, her delicate face illuminated in the light of the room. Her lovely little face was full of mirth, and shallow dimples danced on her cheeks.

Her beautiful almond eyes were clear and bright; her smile was like the warmth of the March spring sun, a sight too beautiful to behold.

"You flatter me, Miss Ji," Bo Jingcheng said in a deep voice.

He finished cutting the peeled apple into small pieces and handed her a piece skewered with a fork.

The man leaned back, his tall frame in a black shirt fitting him perfectly—a sense of nobility emanated from him effortlessly.

"By the way, Director Bo, were you just out on a blind date? How did it go?" Ji Shunuan asked curiously.

When Gu Zhiyuan had been taken away by the police, Bo Jingcheng had also left with his assistant. Looking at the time now, he had been away for about six hours.

Though she did not like to gossip about others' private affairs, the awkwardness of being alone together made her subconsciously seek a topic of conversation.
