"Haha! Your name is Dengdeng, right? Hello, my name is Ji Shunuan, thank you for taking my side."
The little creature, hearing this, immediately opened its paws as if wanting a hug.
Seeing this, Bo Jingcheng hurriedly chastised, "Shunuan has injuries on her body, no hugging allowed."
No sooner had he finished speaking than Ji Shunuan reached out her hand. Seeing the motion, Zang Ao instantly leaped towards her, causing Ji Shunuan to quickly support its rear and hold it in her arms.
"Woof woof woof," Zang Ao boasted a few barks at Bo Jingcheng while being held by Ji Shunuan.
Bo Jingcheng stood there, watching the scene with a cold face.
He strode forward, grabbed Zang Ao by the scruff of its neck, and dragged it off Ji Shunuan as he said in a deep voice, "She's injured. Try being reckless again and see."
Bo Jingcheng radiated a chilling aura, yet there was an inexplicable hint of jealousy in his tone.
Ji Shunuan watched as the man stood there lecturing Zang Ao, the sunlight casting a harmonious glow on the man and the dog.
"Woof woof woof," Zang Ao barked back defiantly as it was being scolded.
Under Bo Jingcheng's cold glare, it gave Ji Shunuan a pitiful look, as if it were about to shatter the next second.
"Alright, stop scolding it. I actually like dogs. Since I'm injured, how about we keep it here to keep me company?" Ji Shunuan intervened on its behalf as soon as she saw this.
Sure enough, upon hearing Ji Shunuan speak, Zang Ao cautiously shuffled its chubby body, wanting to crawl over.
Standing there, Bo Jingcheng said in a cold, mocking tone, "If her injuries are neglected because of this."
"Woof woof woof," Zang Ao, chided, covered its face, turned around, and ran out the door, not looking back. But in the moment of its hasty exit, it threw Ji Shunuan a pitiful parting glance.
Ji Shunuan's heart melted.
"It's just a dog, there's no need to scold it," Ji Shunuan said softly.
After draping a thin blanket over her, Bo Jingcheng brought her tea and snacks before he slowly said, "It's a Tibetan Mastiff, with no sense of gentleness."
"If it doesn't know that you're injured, I'm afraid it might hurt you with its overzealousness," Bo Jingcheng explained gravely.
Spoiling it is one thing, but teaching it to know its limits is another.
"Mr. Bo is right," Ji Shunuan said, accepting the good advice.
She hadn't expected Bo Jingcheng to be so thoughtful, always considering her welfare, even though they were not close and their only connections were a car accident and a marriage license.
To call them familiar strangers was not too far off.
"Let's add each other on WeChat and save our phone numbers. It will make contacting each other easier in case something comes up," Bo Jingcheng suggested proactively.
Upon hearing this, Ji Shunuan quickly handed over her phone.
Watching his long fingers tap a few times on her screen and after he saved the number, his fingertips paused, then he said, "I've set up a security system in your mobile."
"From now on, if anyone tries to hack into your phone or pry into anything, they'll be bounced out," Bo Jingcheng said in a deep voice.
Ji Shunuan took a bite of her watermelon.
"Thank you," she said, somewhat surprised by his actions.
Bo Jingcheng gave a throaty chuckle, handed back the phone to her, then leaned back in his big frame, his arms crossed over his chest, giving her a contemplative look.
"What, you trust me just like that?" Bo Jingcheng asked with a low laugh, arching an eyebrow.
His handsome face, breathtakingly beautiful in the flicker of a smile, made everything else around him seem dull by comparison, as if everything were eclipsed by his charm.
Ji Shunuan calmly bit into her watermelon.
"Why wouldn't I trust you? First, I've been working in the professional world for years. I'm no naive sweetheart," she said.
"Second, you and I tied the knot, but in name only—there's no real marriage between us. Still, in name, we are husband and wife. Hurting me wouldn't be to your benefit,"
"Third, although I don't know much about your background, judging by the mansion you live in, and your ability to find these sophisticated devices and medications overnight, you're certainly no ordinary person."
"You would disdain to commit such lowly and unrefined acts."
"Fourth, your grandmother has a good impression of me! If you dare to lay a finger on me, hehe, I can complain better than you can." Ji Shunuan lifted an eyebrow, with an air of seeing right through everything.
Bo Jingcheng was stunned by her clear-headedness.
Another woman might have lost herself by now, but she kept her reason intact.
And that inherent confidence of hers! It added quite a lot to her charm, the kind that subconsciously made one want to conquer it. Damn, it was cool.
"What Madam says is true," Bo Jingcheng quickly nodded in agreement, upon seeing this.
Ji Shunuan found herself grinning widely, amused by the man's agreement.
One had to admit that the man before her, whether it was emotional intelligence or IQ, was way above the ordinary.
His actions and demeanor lacked any sense of urgency and weren't arrogantly flamboyant but instead were mature and restrained. He had an effortless charm that made you relax subconsciously while talking to him.
"Ding," at that moment, Ji Shunuan's phone vibrated.
She glanced at it but didn't pick up. Instead, she tapped the screen and opened the message to take a look.
She wished she hadn't! As she looked, she found a video clip with scenes so racy that her vision darkened. On the screen, Wushuang was acting wantonly on top of Gu Zhiyuan...
"..." Ji Shunuan was taken aback.
Her mind went "boom" and blanked out. Her cheeks reddened with shame, her ears turning a deep hue.
We're all adults, but such scenes are still immensely awkward!
"Cough cough." Ji Shunuan coughed embarrassingly a few times. She frantically tapped the screen, fumbling for a while before she managed to shut off the video.
Her fingertips were damp with a thin layer of cold sweat.
"I didn't expect her to suddenly send such a provocative video to challenge me," Ji Shunuan held her breath, taking a while to find her voice again.
She carefully sneaked a glance at Bo Jingcheng. The man looked somewhat uneasy but turned his face away and after a long moment, he resumed his composure as if he had seen nothing.
"Provocation is a good thing. Keeping this as evidence could just give us an edge to defeat her next time."
"This woman lacks confidence," Bo Jingcheng concluded after pausing for a few seconds.
Only those lacking confidence would subconsciously provoke others. The more one boasts, the more it proves what they lack.
To marry into the Gu Family, one must have enough enticing wealth because, after all, powerful households do not take in simple sweethearts. Many marriages are transactions of equal value.
And the Gu Family is no exception!
"That's true," Ji Shunuan agreed with a nod.
After they finished speaking, the atmosphere fell into awkwardness again.
From outside the door, the bark of the Zang Ao could be heard. The big guy quietly poked its head in, locking eyes with Bo Jingcheng's profound black pupils. Instantly, it retracted its head back out.
"Woof woof woof," the Zang Ao was still barking outside.
Seeing this, Bo Jingcheng quickly got up.
"I'll go see what's the matter with it. If you need anything, send me a WeChat message," Bo Jingcheng said in a deep voice.
He nearly bolted, yet he still tried to steady his pace.
