Uncle Deng was somewhat shocked.
Reluctantly, Yun Yuwan placed her other foot onto his broad palm.
His palm was large, and his fingers were very long, fully capable of supporting her entire foot.
When she placed it there, Yun Yuwan shivered to her core.
Wen Yangzhi merely looked up at her, expressionless, before lowering his eyes again and gently pressing the ice pack to her ankle.
His thumb was pressed against the top of her foot, and the base of his hand just locked onto her foot, stabilizing it so she wouldn't move.
From this angle, his nose was too imposing, tall and sensuous, carrying a hint of ambiguous suggestion.
But Yun Yuwan felt wronged thinking about how he had misjudged her desire to marry into the Jiang Family.
She had made it so obvious, yet he still misunderstood.
Wen Yangzhi was too mean.
Seeing this scene, Uncle Deng didn't have any doubts left; the nature of their relationship was clear. He quietly left.
Yun Yuwan placed her other foot on his shoulder.
Wen Yangzhi, without looking up, said, "Put it down."
She sulkily replied, "I don't want to."
Wen Yangzhi said indifferently, "I won't say it twice."
She said, feeling wronged, "You misjudged me."
Wen Yangzhi looked up at her, stopping his movements.
Yun Yuwan angrily said, "Do I even know Jiang Yingyu, and you tell me to marry him?"
Wen Yangzhi neither denied nor agreed, simply replying calmly, "You dislike the idea of marrying into the Jiang Family that much?"
Yun Yuwan, angry and aggrieved, said, "Not at all. I don't even know what that Jiang Yingyu looks like."
He remained unflappable, "He resembles Jiang Jianqing a lot, about seventy to eighty percent similar. He should be acceptable in appearance to you."
She was nearly livid, "I don't need someone handsome!"
Wen Yangzhi slightly raised his eyebrows, "You don't?"
Yun Yuwan, looking at his cold and handsome face, found herself unable to say she didn't.
Wen Yangzhi looked straight at her, "What kind of person do you want then?"
Yun Yuwan was furious.
He still asked.
Didn't he have any clue?
It wasn't that she didn't want someone handsome, but she only wanted Wen Yangzhi.
Wen Yangzhi scrutinized her.
Crouched, one knee on the floor, the other leg bent.
She shifted her foot off his shoulder and slid down from the bed, landing on his bent leg, her leg bone and his firm muscle meeting.
Her eyes, filled with tears and unshed redness, looked pitiful as she murmured, "Wen Yangzhi, how could you treat me like this."
She looked like a pitiful little wild animal, seemingly begging for sympathy.
Wen Yangzhi looked into her eyes at a very close distance, his gaze as detached as a piece of unpolished jade, his brow slightly furrowed, "What did you call me?"
She defiantly and angrily replied, "Just that, Wen Yangzhi, Wen Yangzhi, Wen Yangzhi!"
She was pulling the tiger's whiskers, and Wen Yangzhi felt she was like a fussy, uncontrollable child.
She also gripped the collar of Wen Yangzhi's robe.
Wen Yangzhi's expression was stern, "Let go."
"I won't let go!" Yun Yuwan was full of grievances.
His gaze was that of an alpha wolf, fierce, controlling, and predatory. The crisp outline of his thin lips resembled the clear, sharp claws of a wolf, ready to snatch something away:
"If I take off this robe, it won't mean the same thing anymore."
Yun Yuwan's legs went weak as she caught his gaze, and finally, she hesitantly let go.
He said coldly, "Get back up."
Yun Yuwan still climbed onto the bed, visibly upset.
He stood up, looking down at her, "Whatever kind you like, you can discuss it with my mom."
Listening to this, Yun Yuwan got angry again.
Couldn't he be sure that she liked him?
She couldn't just confess directly.
Should she bluntly say she only liked him?
How embarrassing that would be.
They were adults already, and she had hinted as much as she could.
Wen Yangzhi was so handsome, yet why was he so insecure, nothing like her at all? Was it because he felt she was too charming and that many others would like her, and he didn't see himself as the best choice?
Yuwan pursed her lips and finally, gathering her courage, she cooed softly, "I definitely won't like anyone else!"
Wen Yangzhi's eyelids drooped as he scrutinized her for a moment, making Yuwan's heart race.
Yet he replied indifferently, "Liking only yourself won't do."
A sword of sharp agony pierced through Yuwan's heart.
Yuwan hadn't expected him to interpret her words that way, feeling as if she'd been struck by a thousand arrows.
Wen Yangzhi casually tossed the ice bag onto the stool at the end of the bed, "What do you want, I'll buy it for you."
She pounded the bed, "You're brushing me off with money!"
Wen Yangzhi was just expressionless, "Do you want it or not?"
After a humiliated struggle, Yuwan squeaked out, "I want it."
The man's profound gaze pierced through her, "What do you want?"
Yuwan thought for a moment, then looking straight into his eyes, pleaded pitifully, "I want you to give me flowers."
The response was somewhat unexpected; Wen Yangzhi continued wiping his hands unhurriedly, though his expression softened for a moment, "Understood."
He stepped out and closed the door; at that moment, she suddenly straightened her face, feeling somewhat happy.
No matter what, Wen Yangzhi was going to give her flowers.
A man gives flowers only when he likes someone.
The Jiang Family did come over that evening, but it was excusable for Jiang Jianqing not to come, as he wasn't the protagonist. The main character, Jiang Yingyu, was absent under the pretense of urgent matters.
It was clear to everyone.
Mrs. Jiang actually looked a bit displeased, but her eyes lit up the moment she saw Yuwan.
She constantly praised her saying she had a lucky face, with deer-like nose and eyes, long eyebrows, and arch-like lips—a face that denoted a generous chest, kind temperament.
Especially predisposed to a harmonious marital life, likely to bear noble children, wealthy and prosperous.
All in all, they felt Yuwan's face indicated she would bring prosperity to both her husband and his family, making her perfectly suited to be a daughter-in-law.
Mr. and Mrs. Wen turned their gazes towards Yuwan, unaware until now of her good fortune bringing face.
But Yuwan felt extremely uncomfortable, as if she were a piece of meat on a chopping board. All this talk about her auspicious face, good education, and beauty were merely her market traits, as if she was being praised as an object, not as a living person.
They only praised her altruism, saying she would bring luck to others, advantageous to others, without mentioning a single personal merit.
It was not her they liked, but her attributes, erasing the person she was, Yuwan.
Wen Yangzhi, who had been indifferent throughout, suddenly slammed his glass down on the table somewhat heavily. Everyone at the table looked at him, and Mrs. Jiang's words stopped abruptly.
Yet Wen Yangzhi remained calm, "Sorry, my hand slipped a bit."
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
Yuwan knew exactly why he had reacted that way and couldn't help but find his sharply contoured profile both fierce and manly.
She couldn't help feeling her heart flutter.
Wen Yangzhi was so handsome, especially in how he stood up for her.
But Mrs. Jiang, persistent as ever, hinted again that the two families should interact more. She really liked Yuwan and it would be wonderful if they became one family.
Finally, Wen Yangzhi spoke up, "Yuwan has been pampered excessively by our family. The Jiang Family has significant estates, and the household duties that must be managed are numerous; she is not up to that responsibility."
Mrs. Jiang didn't understand immediately and quickly suggested, "These are all things that one can learn, you know."
Wen Yangzhi's face was devoid of emotion as he shot back, "I have no intention of letting her learn those things."
Yuwan felt triumphant inside, swinging her legs under the table until she accidentally kicked Wen Yangzhi.
Wen Yangzhi gave her a cold glance.
She immediately shut her mouth and lowered her head, pretending not to know anything.
Mrs. Jiang finally understood that the Wen Family did not intend to set up a marital alliance between the Wen and Jiang families and finally kept quiet.
Mr. and Mrs. Wen thought the same.
A successor who could easily miss a family dinner.
They weren't insistent.
Even a marital alliance wouldn't guarantee that the Wen Family and Yuwan would be highly regarded.
Their family didn't see Yuwan as an object either.
The dinner was meticulously polite, but the Jiang Family was out of the game.
