Faint, light blue lights could be seen flashing from the top of the mages tower. With the sun setting, each flash became more and more noticeable. More visible. On the inside, Shir had found herself looking through the note book that she couldn't even read. With Toney trying again and again but failing to reveal whatever spell or curse was on the poor boy. Eoviet sighed deeply, it felt draining each time this mage casted each spell on him. Feeling the tingles of the lightning pulse down his body, he was just glad that his robe was baggy. Otherwise the after effects of the pulses would have been on full display, so now they're hidden under the baggy robe.
"Ok, so none of those worked" Toney had muttered to himself, flipping through some old notes. An old leather notebook was what the mage had to bring out in order to look through a number of spells. Eoviet could only yawn to himself, his body was already weak and sore from the unexpected walk and he couldn't remember the last time he had slept. "I just hope that mother, father and the others are all doing alright" Eoviet thought to himself, "I hope I can get back to them". The Prince wished silently to himself.
Sleepily looking over to the young mage, Eoviet tried to see what he was reading through. Or what had him so puzzled that he needed to look through each step of another new spell. Eoviet had been taught some magic by his father, taught the basics into controlling these abilities that had suddenly formed apone him. He had startled by his first interactions with the giant moths, he had accidentally casted a sleeping spell which put the insect to sleep. It was at that point where his father began his schooling, teaching the young Prince into controlling when and where to use these abilities.
But here, Eoviet had never seen so many books about it! Most he got was an old jernal the original King had written, even then it still puzzles Eoviet on how to make a book. Within that jernal it held instructions on which he called "coping" with these abilities. But yet this mage had a rock! A rock that gives him the energy? "What is this!? Why is everything up here so weird?" Eoviet questioned to himself. Not daring to speak his mind about his dragon form based on the reactions these people had by the simple word about it.
But now Eoviet found himself in a position where he had to try and figure out which is best to say and what's not. "Princess Shir seems nice though" Eoviet smiled softly. Even when cornered and attacked, this Princess had protected him, from what appears to be her lover. Though he saw very little, if at all, love come from the two, his best guess is that they were in a similar situation he was in. Where they were expected to have an heir, not expected to love each other. Looking over at the Princess, Eoviet titled his head when he had finally found something familiar. She was looking through some alchemy book, of which seemed to have very detailed instructions of how to make some advanced potions.
Leaning in, Eoviet scanned through the words, his eyes widening as he recognised the handwriting. "It's the same as the original King, King Xoithe, did he write this book? How? Our Kingdom had been living down as far as anyone can recall" Eoviet furrowed his brows. "Yeah, no-one knows the language" the Princess spoke with a more tired and bored tone.
"Oh no, I know the language" Eoviet gave a polite smile, trying to shrug the topic off. The small Prince soon learned his mistake when the mage lit up.
"You know it!?" Toney asked in a very excited and very intrigued tone, "no-one in the castle knows a single word but you know this language?". In a panic, Eoviet chuckled nervously and quickly whipped up another lie. Trying not to gain too much attention on himself.
"W-well, technically my grandparents do but they had taught me the basics, other than that I have no idea on where it came from" Eoviet turned back to the alchemy book. He could feel the sweat dripping at the back of his neck, "did I say too much!? Am I not ment to know this language? Is this linked to their volcano mystery?".
As Eoviet over thought each, individual word he said, the mage grabbed the alchemy book from the Princess and handed it to him. "Cool, cool- can you read it to us!?" The mage excitedly, demanded. With another polite smile Eoviet nodded.
"Sure but which one? I mean there's a lot of potion instructions here" Eoviet explained, keeping his tone soft. Being all timid had caused the mage be softer before so maybe sounding more nervous can get him to calm down. The mage thought before flipping to a page that showed three ingredients. A beautiful purple flower with dark purple berries, a soft white flower and a deep red flower with spiky red leaves.
With a nod, Eoviet began to read, "instructions on how to make an instant kill potion" he began. The Princess raising a concerned eyebrow and the mage looking too intrigued by this knowledge. Clearing his throat he continued, "the nightshade, using both its flower petals, stem and berries, grind into a smooth paste. Using this forest flower will cause the potion to disorientate the target- sounds brutal" he added but then continued. "Next, using the lily of the valley, this plants flowers and berries should be grinneded into the past. This will cause the poison to become more deadly- why do you want to know this?" Eoviet questioned. His concern only grew when he saw how interested the mage looked.
"All knowledge is useful" the mage answer with a smirk. Causing the Princess to sigh and speak up herself.
"We already know that about the flowers, it's the red one we don't recognise. Also both plants had been banned from our valley, the King from centuries ago had ordered that any found should be burned and all roots to be turned to ashe" Shir schooled. That had helped to comfort the small Prince, at least he knew that these horrifying plants couldn't be found anymore.
"The red one?" Eoviet continued, looking down to read this plants description. "The magmar lilly, using the petals of this flower can cause the poison to feel spicy. The targets of this poison would feel an intense burning sensation from their blood- my goodness! That gets detailed" Eoviet stared at the book with a shock and horror. He couldn't begin to image the poor souls who suffered this.
"Spicy!?" Toney echoed, his held tilted in wonder and Eoviet couldn't begin to imagine what the mage was thinking.
"Umm... moving on" Eoviet cleared his throat again. "Using the leaves of the flower, however, would cause the target to feel as though they were struck by lightning. After study, it was shown that the targets who had died from this poison had their nervous system burned out" Eoviet slowly put the book down. Having scanned over the next few lines, he didn't want to give the mage any more ideas.
"A nervous what now?" Shir asked from behind him, her tone also horrified.
"The nervous system! Y'know just the organs that allows a being to feel, move and even think... kinda" Toney explained with his usual intrigued tone.
"There was so much more about that plant but trust me, just stay curious" Eoviet warned, shutting the book. He could picture the agony that one flower could cause. Question just how many poor victims had fallen from this plant. But most importantly, he dreaded to think why someone would want to use it. The first two flowers sounded horrifying on their own but this "magmar lilly" made the first two sound like childs play.
"Just stay curious?" Toney echoed, in thought but yet he looked satisfied, "I like that kid".
"I'm not a kid" Eoviet pouted slightly. Sure he was short and admittedly a bit timid but he wasn't a kid! He had gone through puberty a while ago.
"Then how old are you?" Shir asked, she looked as tired and done with the day as Eoviet felt. With a shrug he replied.
"Not a kid?" Eoviet could see the annoyance flash into the Princesses eyes but she sighed that formed into a yawn. With a rushed swing of the old wooden door, an older man walked in with a hurry. A man that had the same firey brown hair that Shir had, wavey but a trimmed hair cut and the same deep brown eyes scanned the room.
"Still don't know how to knock, ey, Prince Bosso?" Toney whined but wasn't as eager to snap as he did before.
"Apologies, the Lady Swea had requested for you" Prince Bosso explained. Eoviet could hear a strain in his tone. This Prince was worried about something and the smaller and less flashy Prince couldn't help but understand him.
"Ah yes, I had been sidetracked, my apologies this time, Prince" Toney nodded with a softer smile. The mage picked up a prepare bottle of some purplish potion, "was she requesting her usual?".
"No, Toney, she had gone to labour" the Prince informed, causing both the mage and the Princess to light up. Eoviet had no clue on who this "Lady Swea" is but he to gave a congratulating expression.
"Well congratulations, Prince but why call for me and not one of the doctors? I hardly know anything about childbirth" Toney questioned, grabbing a seconed bottle of the purple potion.
"I tried" the Prince answered with a sigh, "she doesn't want a doctor, she would like you". Toney nodded, walking to the Princes side once had grabbed a few ingredients and a smaller crystal.
"Why I am honoured, you magisty but if things go south I highly suggest calling for one" Toney bowed, leaving the room and heading down the stairs.
The Prince gave a look of gratitude before turning to his sister. "You" he pointed to Shir who was now at his side, "don't run off tomorrow. I will call when Swea is ready to have an audience" Prince Bosso ordered before following the mage. Only to quickly look back and call out, "and bring a gift!". With that the Prince ran down the stairs to catch up with the mage.
"Who does he take me for? Of course I'll bring a gift" Shir huffed with a chuckle in her throat.
"Umm" Eoviet awkwardly spoke up, "congratulations". An amused smile formed onto Shir's face, with a stretch the Princess gestured for him to follow.
"Don't worry, I haven't forgotten about you" the Princess promised. Eoviet followed closely behind her, feeling a harsh strain in his thighs every time he took a step down. "I'll have my maid prepare a bed for you in one of the workers chambers" Shir turned back to inform.
"Thank you" Eoviet smiled back, there was this unusual feeling deep within him when he was around the Princess. It just felt right, he trusted her completely despite only barly knowing her name. And that her fiancé is a complete jerk with a happy sword arm.
"Well that was the whole day, you look tired, I'm tired so let's call it a night!" Shir smiled back at him. Her tone relaxed and a little sloppy for what Eoviet would have guessed to come from a Princess.
"I am tired" Eoviet nodded. The castle had its own beauty at night, he could marvel at it for days. Following the Princess down the hall, Eoviet couldn't help but compare it to his Palace. As pretty as it is, it wasn't near the size of his Palace back at home and that was with it being half buried!
The architect here also felt a little plain, simple arches and no carvings at all!? The most he could find here was a plant or a painting but their walls felt so bland. He felt like he wondering the tunnels again, not walking through the halls of royalty. "Ah! Eva!" Shir had called her maid over, snapping Eoviet out of his disappointed thoughts.
Eoviet yawned as the Princess explained his situation, requesting for her to take the newcomer to the workers chambers and squeeze him into a spot. With a bow, the maid smiled softly at him, reminding Eoviet of Eogoi. They both had light hair and a soft smile as they worked. With a grateful nod, Eoviet followed the girl down a set of short stairs, entering a basic room.
