After a silence that didn't last long enough, Jin's voice returned to my mind.
Ignoring his subsequent messages, I focused on what was in front of me. Tactus had dropped the pretense of calm.
"You can go ahead," I said, prompting him to speak.
With a deep sigh, he responded, "Seems you've noticed."
I nodded. It had been a struggle to pick up on it, but I could tell something was wrong.
"It's about Rose," he began, his voice carrying an undercurrent of complicated emotions. "Her situation… it's rather delicate."
Rose interrupted before he could explain further. "What are you saying? Didn't we settle things with that last fight? I should be cleared by now!"
"According to the tribe's traditions, yes, you're cleared of the charge of harming Fitchner."
"What do you mean?!" I couldn't hold back, looking directly at Rose. "Did you… kill him? Why?"
