Chapter 33 - From Forest to Feast

Under the afternoon sun, Elias stood before the assembled citizens of Faeloria.

Mountains of materials – logs, stones, magical crystals, iron, and various metals – sprawled before them at the foot of Shadowbloom Hill.

Elias, his gaze focused, accessed the kingdom management system, the digital interface appearing before him.

Elias scanned the kingdom management system for additional requirements. It wasn't just about piling up materials; he needed infrastructure.

A woodcutter's hut, a stone quarry, a market, a training ground, a storage depot, and roads were all listed as essential for leveling up the kingdom.

He delved deeper into the system, exploring the details for each building. Materials, labor, and specific requirements were outlined. It was going to take more than just throwing materials together to build a thriving kingdom.

Elias carefully examined the detailed information for each required building. He realized that blueprints were essential for construction. "Blueprints, huh?" he mused, a hint of amusement in his voice.

He noticed a shop icon in the bottom right corner of the kingdom management system screen. Curious, he clicked on it.

A vast array of items, ranging from basic resources to advanced technologies, appeared before him.

Elias was baffled by the origin of these goods, but he quickly dismissed his curiosity. The important thing was that this shop could accelerate Faeloria's development.

"So, this is a kind of cheat code, huh?" he muttered with a wry smile.

He began browsing the shop, eager to explore the possibilities for his kingdom.

Elias was met with a wave of disappointment as he reviewed the blueprint prices in the shop. They were astronomical! He closed the shop window with a sigh, his hopes for a quick and easy kingdom-building process dashed.

His attention shifted to the resource inventory icon, a glimmer of hope sparking within him. Maybe he could manage his resources without spending a fortune.

The inventory screen displayed a list of items, but without price tags, it felt like a breath of fresh air.

"At least I can start with the basics," he muttered to himself.

The blueprints for the basic infrastructure, except roads, were already available. He could manage the rest.

Turning his attention back to the mountain of materials, he pondered how to transfer them into his inventory. "How do I move this stuff?" he muttered to himself, scratching his head.

Just then, Theron, the Centaur he'd appointed as Chief Engineer, approached him with a respectful bow.

"My Lord, we've gathered a significant amount of materials as you requested. Please provide your next instructions," Theron said.

"Right," Elias replied, snapping out of his thoughts. "I need a team of cooks and food preparers to get started."

Theron nodded and turned to the crowd.

A few moments later, he returned with a diverse group of Satyrs, Fairies, Elves, and Nymphs. "My Lord, they are ready to assist as you requested," Theron reported.

Elias smiled. "Excellent. Moonshade, please take them to the kitchen and start preparing lunch for everyone. I've already stocked the food warehouse with ingredients."

Moonshade bowed and led the group towards the kitchen. Elias watched them go, a sense of satisfaction washing over him.

"While we wait for lunch," Elias announced, "please follow me."

He led the way towards the northern edge of the hill, Nightshade trailing closely behind. The rest of the group followed suit.

After a fifteen-minute walk, they reached a vast expanse of overgrown grass and bushes.

"We need to clear this area," Elias stated, his gaze sweeping across the untamed landscape.

"We'll cut down all the grass and shrubs within a hundred-meter radius of the hill."

He turned to Theron. "How many people do we have left, excluding those in the kitchen?"

Theron bowed respectfully. "One thousand one hundred and thirty-two, my lord, including myself."

"Excellent," Elias replied.

"Let's divide and conquer. Everyone, spread out and start clearing the area to the north, east, and south of the hill. We need to make this place presentable before lunch."

A surge of energy erupted from the crowd as they eagerly took on the task.

Theron stood tall, his voice booming across the gathering. "People of Faeloria! Our king has spoken! Let's transform this wilderness into a welcoming space! We'll enjoy lunch in a much more pleasant environment!"

The clearing began! The diverse races scattered across the grassland, their unique skills and abilities transforming the landscape.

Sylvan Elves, with their deep connection to nature, used magic to delicately guide vegetation, minimizing damage to the environment. Some wielded enchanted tools, carefully trimming shrubs and tall grasses.

Centaurs, known for their strength and speed, uprooted larger plants and transported them to designated disposal areas. Their coordinated movements created a mesmerizing display of efficiency.

Satyrs, agile and nimble, navigated the challenging terrain, clearing paths for others. Their knowledge of plants helped them identify which species could be safely relocated.

Lycanthropes, with their raw power, tackled the most demanding tasks, uprooting stubborn trees and shifting large rocks. Their teamwork was impressive, their synchronized efforts a testament to their strength and unity.

Nymphs, using their affinity with water, softened the earth, making it easier for others to remove plants. They also tended to the displaced flora, ensuring their survival.

Fairies, with their delicate forms, hovered above, using their magic to lift debris and guide their fellow workers. They acted as vigilant observers, ensuring nothing was missed.

Nightshade, the ancient spirit, harnessed the power of wind and earth, assisting in the clearing process. His presence ensured the ecological balance was maintained.

Elias, the king himself, joined in the effort, his sword a blur of motion as he cut through dense foliage. His skill and determination inspired those around him, demonstrating his commitment to the kingdom.

Within an hour, a vast expanse of cleared land stretched out around the hill.

Where once stood tall grass and shrubs, there was now a flat, open space, extending over a hundred and twenty meters in every direction.

The transformation was breathtaking, a testament to the collective effort and unwavering spirit of Faeloria's people.

Exhausted but exhilarated, Elias and the other workers gathered at the base of the eastern hill, their faces flushed with exertion and satisfaction.

The day was far from over, but they had achieved a significant milestone in the construction of their new home.

"Lunch is ready, my lord!" Moonshade announced, materializing beside Elias.

Elias looked at the exhausted but satisfied faces of his people. "Everyone, let's take a break and enjoy the feast prepared by Moonshade and your fellow citizens."

Several long tables had been set up in the courtyard, overflowing with a variety of dishes.

"Sorry, there's not enough room inside," Moonshade explained, "so we've set up everything here."

"No worries," Elias replied, "I prefer to have lunch with my people."

Moonshade nodded and instructed a few people to bring out a special meal for Elias.

When it arrived, it was clear that the royal meal was far more elaborate than the common fare.

Elias smiled and shook his head. "I'll eat with everyone else," he insisted. "We're all equals here."

"Nightshade, Theron, come here for a moment," Elias requested, his gaze scanning the crowd.

The two approached him, their attention focused.

"Who do you think worked the hardest and most efficiently while clearing the grassland?" Elias asked.

Theron scratched his head, a look of uncertainty crossing his face. "Everyone worked hard, my lord. It's hard to say who stood out," he admitted.

Nightshade, however, seemed more confident.

"I can sense the energy of those who exerted themselves the most," he said, a knowing glint in his eye.

He pointed at three individuals from different races: a male elf, a male satyr, and a dryad.

The three were visibly startled as their names were called out. Their faces turned pale as they slowly made their way through the crowd towards Elias and Nightshade.

"Introduce yourselves," Nightshade commanded.

The elf, his voice trembling slightly, spoke first. "I am Eldrin Thornleaf, my lord," he said, bowing deeply.

The satyr, his voice thick with fear, stammered out his name. "Thorne... Brightblade... my lord," he managed.

The dryad, Lyra Willowshade, was the last to speak, her voice barely audible. "My lord, I am Lyra Willowshade."

Nightshade nodded, his face a mask of neutrality. "You three have been singled out for your exceptional efforts," he announced.

The trio looked at each other, confusion and fear etched on their faces. They had no idea what they had done to deserve such attention, let alone fear.

Elias approached the three individuals, their bodies trembling visibly. Their faces were pale, their eyes filled with fear and confusion. It was clear they thought they had done something wrong.

"Don't worry," Elias reassured them.

"You haven't done anything wrong." He could sense their terror and wanted to ease their fear.

"In fact, you three stood out for your exceptional work ethic."

The trio looked at each other, their expressions slowly shifting from fear to confusion to disbelief. They had been singled out, but for a positive reason.

"Moonshade," Elias turned to the ancient spirit, "prepare that special meal for these three. They deserve it."

Moonshade nodded and gestured to a few people to assist her.

A collective gasp echoed through the crowd.

It was unheard of for a king to share a meal with ordinary citizens. But Elias seemed oblivious to the commotion.

He had witnessed their dedication firsthand, and he wanted to show his appreciation.

As the three stood there, still processing the unexpected praise, Elias turned to the rest of the group.

"Let's enjoy this well-deserved meal," he said, his voice filled with warmth and camaraderie.

The feast began. Everyone politely served themselves, the atmosphere filled with a sense of camaraderie.

Eldrin, Thorne, and Lyra, however, ate with a sense of unease, their eyes darting around nervously. They felt unworthy of such a special treatment.

"We need to continue clearing the area after we've rested," Elias announced, breaking the comfortable silence.

"We'll create a path from the northern edge of the hill all the way to the forest."

Theron nodded, his mouth full of food. "We're ready whenever you are, my lord," he managed to say.

"Let's enjoy this moment first." Elias suggested.

"We deserve a break after all that hard work."

Elias smiled. "We need to recharge our energy before tackling the next task."
