Chereads / The Walking Dead: reborn as Carl / Chapter 89 - Chapter 87 Still the Same

Chapter 89 - Chapter 87 Still the Same

  the next day,

Still after breakfast, Sean had already led his men away from the farm.

They left very early, even before Carl's breakfast.

After all, the early hunter catches the bird.

The people who went were the ones Sean mentioned yesterday, Sean, Daryl, and T-boy.

Moore is still very reasonable, well, when he can't beat the opponent.

After enjoying the first rays of sunshine in the morning, Carl walked towards the small building.

  "Good morning, Carl."

Jimmy, who was passing by, said hello.

"Morning, Jimmy." Carl responded with a polite smile.

Walking to the small building, even though there are now more people like Carl on the farm, the Hershel family still has the habit of closing the door during the day.

However, Carl still observed basic etiquette and knocked on the door softly and rhythmically.

  "Boom, boom, boom..."

"Who is it?" Maggie's voice came from inside the house, but she didn't come over.

  "It's me, Carl."

"Come in, the door is not closed."

  "excuse me."

Walking into the room, Carl saw Maggie preparing breakfast.

  sandwich,

Well, it's just bread slices with vegetables or fruit jam, and if conditions permit, you can maybe add a fried egg or fried ham.

  But now it obviously doesn't.

"Carl, are you here to deliver milk to Beth again?" Maggie looked at Carl and smiled.

"That's right, but there's more to today." Carl put a box of pure milk on the dining table.

This was Carl's third day here, or maybe it was the third day after he came back. It seemed that Carl and Sean didn't come back until after midnight that night.

So the conversation between Carl and Sean was on the first day.

The day after the conversation, when I had recovered a little and could walk with difficulty, Carl would come over with a box of milk after enjoying the sunshine in the morning.

Of course, Carl brought five boxes on the first day. After Hershel and others politely refused, Carl insisted and Hershel had no choice but to accept it and said that he should never bring it again in the future.

The other four people who had no choice but to accept it, Maggie, Beth, Glenn, and Patricia, also expressed the same opinion.

So the next day Carl followed their advice, but ignored Beth's refusal and only brought one box to Beth.

The family headed by Hershel had no objection to this.

Now it seems that Maggie is getting used to it quickly.

"Carl, have you had breakfast?" Maggie asked politely.

"I have, thank you. Is Beth still awake?"

"She should be awake now, maybe washing up. Do you want to look for her? Her room is on the second floor. You can go there yourself, or I can call her for you."

Maggie was completely defenseless against Carl, who was sensible, well-behaved and polite.

Carl was indeed curious about Beth's boudoir, but Carl hoped to receive an invitation from the owner of the boudoir herself.

Besides, Carl has something important to do now.

"No, I'm looking for Hershel. Is he awake?"

"My father always gets up very early. He is in the study. You can go there by yourself."

  "Okay, you go ahead."

Carl knocked on the study door.

  "Enter."

Carl opened the door, stepped inside, and closed it.

Hershel was not reading, but tidying up the bookshelf with a feather duster.

In fact, there was no dust on the bookshelf, but getting up early to tidy up the bookshelf had become Hershel's habit.

This habit keeps the bookshelf clean.

"Herschel, can we talk?" Carl offered.

Hershel stopped, looked back at Carl, smiled and said,

"Karl, you don't have to be so formal every time you talk to me. It makes me feel like I'm in the halls of Congress."

"I'll be careful next time, but I'm afraid this conversation won't be pleasant for you, so I have to be more formal." Carl gave Hershel a precautionary note first.

  "Is it coming again?"

Hershel seemed to have expected this. He put down what he was holding, walked to the single sofa seat and sat down, then motioned to Carl to sit down first.

Carl walked over and sat down, looking at Hershel, and said hesitantly, "Do you know what I'm going to talk about?"

Hershel nodded, "After all, I can assure you that there won't be that many things that will make me unhappy."

Hershel acted so calm that Carl didn't know how to start talking for a moment.

Hershel forced a smile, "Didn't you want to talk to me? Do you need me to say something to warm up the conversation first?"

"Of course not. I just suddenly don't know how to start. Although I had prepared a draft before coming here, I suddenly feel that the draft I prepared is not appropriate."

Hershel forced a smile and patted Carl on the shoulder.

"Don't be so reserved, kid. You're still a kid. Just say whatever comes to your mind. Just talk casually. Maybe I should have accepted the reality a long time ago."

  Carl hesitated and asked,

  "Are you still feeding them?"

"It stopped after the day you came back. Maggie had a fight with me about it, but she will understand."

"Do you already know what they are?"

"In fact, I already knew it. After all, how could someone be alive with all his internal organs gone and still be so excited with half his body gone? But I just didn't want to accept the reality and didn't want to believe it.

  How does the saying go?

  Only self-foolhood cannot understand. "

"Are you willing to accept the reality now?"

"To be honest, I don't want to. In fact, sometimes it's good to pretend to be stupid."

"Indeed, but those who pretend to be stupid are the only ones who know that they are pretending to be stupid, and it is difficult for others to see it."

"Carl, what do you want to do when you talk to me?" Hershel looked up and looked directly at Carl.

His eyes were fixed on Karl, but his expression was trembling.

"Perhaps, the land is their true peace, and being buried in the ground is their true destination."

Carl used the word "they", which means that Carl is saying that this is the destination that they should have in their human form.

"What are you going to do?" Hershel still looked directly at Carl.

"Use a gun or a knife to put an end to their deformed state, let them find true peace, and finally bury them in the earth and give them the funeral they deserve."

Hershel lowered his eyes and face so that Carl couldn't see his expression.

After a long time, Hershel still didn't raise his head and asked in a very low voice,

"Karl, if it was your relative, a very important relative, who became like that, what would you do?"

"I'll help her get rid of it, I'm sure of that," Carl said softly.

"Why 'she'?" Hershel raised his head slightly, a little surprised.

"Because I saw it, and I did it to help her get rid of it." Carl's face was calm, or at least it looked calm, if you ignored the slightly trembling eyelids.

"Knock, knock, Dad, do you need me to bring you breakfast?" Maggie knocked on the door at an inopportune time.

"No, no, don't wait for me," Hershel said in his calmest voice possible.

  "Okay." Maggie left.

  "Kid, you're amazing."

The moisture in Hershel's eyes finally turned into tears, sliding down his face, which was already covered with wrinkles and weathered.
