At first, it was just a blur between the trees, something moving too fast to make out. But as the ground beneath Damien's feet began to vibrate more intensely, the shapes became clearer. Massive creatures—hundreds, no, thousands of them—were barreling through the forest, crushing everything in their path.
Damien's breath hitched. They were bull-like beasts, but not like any bulls he had ever seen. These creatures were easily three or four times the size of an ordinary bull, their bodies covered in thick, dark fur, horns twisted and jagged like the ones he had seen earlier on the skeletal carcasses. Their hooves slammed into the ground with such force that the earth trembled under their weight.
"Oh, no..." Damien whispered, his throat dry. His body froze for a second, then the reality of the situation crashed down on him. These beasts were heading straight for him.
