Chapter 231 - Ego

As the car cruised down the darkened highway, an uneasy silence settled over its passengers. The faint melody from the stereo was the only noise breaking the stillness.

As Delilah drove the car, she occasionally cast subtle occasional looks at her father through the rearview mirror as she tried to figure out what she could possibly say to him.

In the back seat, Ned stared out the window, his gaze distant. His posture was slouched, his hands resting limply on his lap, and the lines on his face seemed more pronounced now than Jessica had ever remembered.

When did their father grow this old? Jessica mused from the passenger seat as she gazed at his reflection in the side mirror.

Jessica tapped her fingers rhythmically against her knee, her gaze darting between Delilah and their father.
