Hunter sat in the back of the cab, lost in thought as he stared out of the window. The road was alive with activity, but his mind was elsewhere, consumed by thoughts of Delilah.
He couldn't wait to see her and find out what could have made her leave that way without a word to him.
His phone buzzed in his pocket, pulling him out of his thoughts. Glancing at the screen, he saw Sabrina's name. And he swiped to receive the call without hesitation when he realized that he had not called to give her any update since their discussion in his office the previous day.
"Hey, you!" Sabrina greeted with forced cheerfulness.
"Hey," he said, his voice sounding more tired than he intended.
"Are you alright?" Sabrina's voice was soft and filled with concern. "I just realized I haven't heard from you. How did it go with Delilah? Did you tell her the truth yet?"
Hunter let out a long sigh, running a hand through his hair. "No, I didn't."
